As promised an update on Brindie: I'll also email photos to jenny. Brindie had a very successful follow up appt at the vets & we are able to gradually (if that's poss!!!) let her get back to normal lurcher fun... Today we wnt for a woodland walk for a good sniff around followed by some freedom to run free in the cricket field (pretty much enclosed) I took some left over roast chicken as she's not so fussed about the reward treats anymore...! little monkey, and bless her she took off at top speed racing ype circles then returned to my call & whistle everytime! this is only the 2nd time ive let her off so i'm very very proud of her. At home she's quietned down alot & settling into our routine, she's going to her crate on her own now and happy to be left. She stands by the doors to go out to do her business but still weeing on the mats if we dont see her waiting, does anyone have an experience tips for this? I am thinking of some training help perhaps, when she goes outside she now comes automatically back for her reward instead of running around. The grandparents came over and met her for the first time yest and instanly fell in love, as she did with them. Paula XXX Edited - to add photos for you

They usually need to wee between 5-15 minutes after drinking, and poo around 15-25 mins after eating. I often miss Jessie asking to go out as I am round the corner at the desk. But if you can stand the noise a bell is a good idea That way you hear her move and can see if she is waiting at the door. They do usually go to the door and wait for a mo, but then realise they are up and have to do it. I put a dry nite wrapped round the mat at the back door. Saves me washing yet more mats

Good to hear Brindie is settling in shes a babe ! mimsmum your post reminds me of my new girl Bella, i have had her arounf 6 weeks now and second week we had her we had no wee accidents at night (she had been peeing in the night) - i thought great until i lifted up the doormat and relaised she'd been peeing on that instead of the floor ! she is getting there and only has the odd pee at night now. Good luck to Brindie and her family x

We really appreciate all the advise, I will get some dry nites Jenny, as some wees are on 'coir' mats that cant go in to the machine and very hard to get the smell out of. We got some get off pet spray frm wyevale to spray the mats but it didnt make any difference. We think our previous dog already cryed to be let out when we adopted him, but is this something they start after time or possibly not?? I believe she's going thru the night which is great, but think I will have another little check aound Eleanor, fantastic Bella's getting there too, I'd love to see some photos of Kym & Bella. Dominique kindly sent me some info to put photos on here as i'm useless at computer tech stuff, Paula xXX

Wow sounds like its going really well! She had a bit of a fancy for weeing on our coir mat as well......naughty even if the back door was left open. Of course if it already smells she just kept going in the same place so we got rid of it and made sure any wees were cleared up and cleaned with vinegar to eliminate any scent. With Toby we sometimes had to wait in the garden with him for 10-15mins until he finally decided to go. He is not that interested in food so we had a special toy with a noisy squeaker just for playing with as a reward for doing his wees outside. Im sure it will come! The photos are lovely xxxx

Thought it was time to update brindies thread. To think that we collected her in Feb half term and here we are in the Easter hols. The novalty of a new young dog certainly hasnt worn off with the kids, she is going to miss them when they go back to school, all the extra walkies, cuddles and playtimes by the time they are all in bed & its mine & Andrews time for Brindie cuddles, shes taken herself off to her bed for a deep sleep, her eyes go all droopy & pink. I guess its because she doesent sleep alot all day and shes still a baby. Funny how it takes time for them to show start new things, she has just started this weekend to 'talk' to us when she's happy and greeting us & just started to go round & round in circles & curl up in those tight little cute balls. I remember Stacey telling us she started off sleeping standing up so wtg Brindie. Toilet training has inproved alot, very few accidents in the house now. Shes run off acouple of times recentely from the park into private farmland for a few mins but does come back to whistle in her own time! We took her to Kearnsey abbey park in Dover where she had lots of admirers who couldn't understand why she was a rescue dog, I said there are many many more just like her out there needing homes. Bearing in mind there were lots of swans & ducks wondering everywhere she was v good (on lead of course)she looked, pulled alittle then continued her business. Brindie is wonderful, it really was love at first sight, shes soooooo affectionate to everyone. Still cant thank you enough for her. I'll get some photos on again soon. love Paula & family XXXX

I think the 'reserved' tag is from her original thread.....she's still on the 'looking for a home' thread too and I think thats the current one. AM I right?

Yes, the reserve on this thread is the old one. I have an application in for Brindie/Barley. I have discussed with Julie & Stacey. Just have to wait for Jenny to returrn and have a chat with her and also my vet re Poppy's attitude at 13.5 y.o. to an 'intruder' coming into her home. I am hoping it will give her a boost and make her a bit more interested in life in general. Anybody any comments about 1 old and one young bitch together? I know that the Red Setter rescue won't home a dog of the same sex with the incumbent. Personally I think it is being over fussy. But any comments would be appreciated.

Ooh how exciting! Very recent experience - Mum's Bess who is 13 and little Cassie from this rescue aged 3. If you look at Cassies thread you will see that there have been problems, but I think these are mainly due to Cassies history of ruling in her 1st home and lack of socialisation off lead so she didnt know how to communicate when the old lady Bess told her to bugger off! As she is a quick learner, she finally got the hang of it although not without some considerable effort an patience from mum and Bess. I believe its all down to personality. If Poppy is laid back when other dogs are around / visit (as Bess is) then surely theres no reason why it should go wrong provided B takes her place at the bottom of the pack with your reinforcement. Wipuki has a 17 yo and 2 youngsters (all bitches I think) and all are happy - see her post on Cassie's thread when she reassured me! Beautiful photos! Maybe Red Setters have a different temperament - sounds odd to me but I dont know them Good luck with B - take her and try it out! PS - Cas has a thread in homes wanted and another in fostering requests - Wipukis comments are in the 2nd - mimsmum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=urgent&action=display&thread=11386&page=1
