well today we had our interview to see if we were a suitable home, and i hope we will be able to give this gorgeous lurcher a loving home very soon. As with each & every hound in SLR's care, Cracker's particular needs are paramount regarding placing him in his forever home, & there is every indication that this lad would not be happy without the company of another dog.
Regretfully, therefore, although in all other respects you could provide a Lurcher with a lovely caring home, this aspect of Cracker's requirements would appear to rule you out of adopting him.
We will of course continue to do our utmost to unite you with the ideal hound to fit in the super home you have on offer.

I'm afraid until all prospective adopters for Cracker have been homechecked, no decision can be made.
An update in this morning from his foster mum indicates that he may be okay as an only dog, but anyone who adopts Cracker has to understand that at the moment he DOES have separation anxiety. This will need working on. He WILL cry when left alone on his own, and his foster mum has been addressing this.
Cracker now seems more into humans than he is into his foster family dog mate, so "only" dog status could be a possibility.
As Barney says, it is the foster family that will assess Cracker and his needs unfold on a dailty basis.
Anyone adopting Cracker will have to be prepared to work with separation anxiety needs, so we are looking for a family where someone is around most of the time.
I have had two separation anxiety dogs here, Tag and Milo. Tag took nearly 6 months to come round and Milo only a couple as he did like the copany of other dogs.
We just don't know, but what we do know is that we are looking for a family that will understand Cracker's needs, will be able to nurture confidence in him.
I am sure Deb will be along shortly to update his thread with her honest appraisal.
He is a lovely lovely dog, loyal, affectionate, obedient with brilliant recall, just insecure at this time.

Has Cracker found a home already? I think he's beautiful and would like to register my interest if he's not gone anywhere yet. Could you get in touch and let me know? Many thanks.

As you can see from Barney and myself's above posts we are still considering ALL applications for Cracker. No decisions have been made yet. If you have already applied please can you email me.

Cracker is a young gentleman. For a six month old puppy (or any aged dog) he is remarkably calm and steady. On the lead you don't know he is there. His recall is perfect. He is very obedient, kind and gentle. He loves his food and the sofa. He enjoys a good run around and has enjoyed Frodo's (our 6 yr old lurcher) company but is more interested in the humans than then dogs. He loves to play fetch and will drop on command. He loves his food but hs not attempted to steal any of ours yet! The only downside is that when left even for a short while he cries like a baby. I do think this is just his lack of confidence he is so needy of humans love. I thought he would be better if left in the room alone with Frodo but it seems to make no difference. I haven't got young children or cats but he seems to ignore the cats on our walks and hasn't jumped up or growled at anyone just a polite greetings to our guests. If I was wanting another dog I would choose Cracker without hesitation and I will be very sad to see him go. He really is very special

He looks very like Tigger - down to the black toenails!
Tiggs is fawn with a white tummy but dark-pigmented skin, so whenever he leaps in a stream he comes out looking as if he's been up to his hocks in mud - a bit disconcerting at first.
I'd guess Cracker might have the same sort of pigmentation? Or hasn't he thrown himself into water yet?
He does look lovely - and a big bonus to have a lurcher with good recall !

Cracker - Update Cracker had a great weekend enjoying the company of Jack, Honey, Amy, Pablo & Frodo. He is really coming out of his shell and playing like a puppy should He is getting better with his own company as his confidence grows. He is also showing no interest in cats even those who run out right in front of his nose! He is such a gentle steady boy and will make lovely company for someone especially if they do have an older dog to show him the way or the time to play fetch with him (his favourite game at the moment)

You are right Jenny. Pablo & Cracker played very nicely together although it was hard to tell them apart sometimes!

Cracker did a simple thing yesterday but we think its a big step foward.... He took himself off to have a snooze in the bedroom upstairs all on his own. He is feeling much more secure and not having to watch our every move and follow us around Well Done Cracker xx

Cracker is still looking for his forever home. Now I have got to know Cracker a bit more I do really think he would like to be in a home with another dog for him to play with. He loves his toys, sleep and food. He remains great on the lead and takes no notice of the neighbourhood cats.
