I am so sorry to keep you all waiting for some photos. I have now managed to get them into my computer photos and trying to upload to Photobucket however our rural broadband here is less than 1 mb - I get a big reduction from BT due to the snail pace, but that does not help when actually trying to use it. Added to that, Winnie accidentally knocked the phone and hub to the floor and the hub broke, so we have been completely without internet connection, So, an update on Winnie. She has become quite attached to me in a very short time and will whine (quietly) if I disappear from view. Her tail wags for England when she sees me and I get a head cuddle. I have been avoiding her tummy due to the spay as she still has stitches. She is a counter surfer without a doubt and is TOO interested in the 2 parrots. She will jump up to the cage and look in or study them very intently from the sofa. She and Bella joined the daxies and Taz in the 'doggie bedroom' last night as Rudi and Bruce often get us up in the night and Kirk has come out to make the space, which he is very happy about. Not a peep from Winnie and when I opened the door at 7.10 am this morning, she was just ecstatic to see me with tail wagging and body almost trembling with joy. She is very confident with all the other dogs and has been instigating play from day 1. She frightened pork sausage Joey this morning as she wanted to play whereas he usually frightens Bruce and occasionally Rudi. She has no qualms taking anyone's bed or space on the sofa, and they don't argue with her. She has taken to Bella and as I write, Bella has just joined her in a bed and is cuddled up to her rear end. She loves her food but I need to do more training in respect of her waiting her turn as she thinks that every bowl is hers as I deal with 7 meals! I have put her with Taz on a higher double feeder and they are fine together. She does not try to take anyone else's food, just wants her first. She tends to take her treats away to eat - not sure where, but not far away as she always comes back for more. She is not fazed by Rudi's tendency to growl and bark, which is great. She so wants to romp with them all. I have been keeping her in the courtyard but yesterday, she instigated play and was running from the courtyard, into the house and then in and out of the kitchen, lounge and conservatory, including jumping over chairs and sofas - she is like a gazelle. Clearly this was too much for her knee and she has been limping so I have discouraged the play today and took her around the gardens on lead for a good sniff. It is 1.5 acres, so she had a good airing, but everytime we go out the courtyard, she is desperate to go out and run and looks so forlorn at the gate. She tends to have a very sad look in photos but is actually very lively and happy. Poo good, even though I am changing her food, so I believe that she is settling in really well. She is very easy to love Love Margey xx

Aah, I knew she would love Bella. And she easily adapts to any pack. She loves being with a pack. I'm afraid if she wants a sofa space she just gets up and nudges any dog on there to make room, or sits on them! I found it better to let the dogs to the befriending with her as she will tend to bond too much with her humans. I always kept that little distance, and didn't cuddle on the sofa even when she came and sat and leaned on me, sometimes back to back!! We fed Winnie first in the lounge as she was not a manic eater and always finished around the same time as the others. Sasha always eats as if there is no tomorrow and so would try to take Winnie's dinner, so she was always separated from the pack. Winnie never muscled in on dinners, but I think just got used to being first to have hers. She has that sad face doesn't she? We found that whatever photos we took we couldn't get a happy one, and yet that tail gives you whiplash even if you only talk to her. She is a dog that is happy with her lot.
Question Margey - Does she bark much now she is in the countryside? I bet not.
I think she is doing the work of a mum with little Bella. They do look a good item. Right choice?

Lovely update Margey. It's really difficult when they have a dodgy leg and you have to curb their need to run ... I've had to manage Maisie's foot since she first came to me as a foster (subsequently failed!) but it has got better over the nearly two years she's been here. She has been having laser treatment, at first every week and now just on monthly maintenance and this has kept her joint sound and she gets regular runs although I am always careful how much and stick to soft ground or the beach wherever possible. Winnie is a little super star and so great with the bub. Thanks for taking her and for the fab update xx

I think the bub is a lot of temptation! My pack wouldn't play that much and Winnie so wanted a friend to play with.

The only time Winnie has barked is when play barking - she is encouraged to bark by Rudi and Bruce She loves to play with Bella and most of the time it is ok, but she can go on for too long and start to bother the pup so I keep an eye and Winnie stops immediately if told 'enough'. I took her for a walk around the neighbouring farmer's field, with the daxies, and she loved sniffing and looking but nothing encouraged her to bark. After her dinner tonight, I let her wander round the big garden on her own as she does love to sniff, and without the others around, I did not see her try to run. She is very inquisitive, especially in the kitchen. Seemed to be better with her knee today although I noticed she did not like to put her weight on it when getting on the sofa. She leads with that leg, so as it goes up, it is taking her weight. She did not appear to be in any pain, just a little weakness I think. Not a peep again last night and manic to see me again at 7.10 am this morning. Getting on with change of food and very keen on treats. She is very quick indoors and when they all follow me, she manages to squeeze through the smallest hound gap to get to wherever we are going and I can easily see how she knocked her knee before. We have been blessed the last few days with good weather for the time of year so that has helped the settling in as plenty of opportunity to be outside. Margey xxx

Photobucket not playing so photos will have to wait but a quick update on Winnie. A little bit needy and always looking for me, but not an anxious dog and if I go to have a shower or something, she only whinges for a minute. VERY lively, especially with Bella and Bruce and Kirk has been doing his mediation role and breaking them up in a very professional manner. Rolls around the floor with Bella and a lot of bitey face from both. Loves her food and always looking for more, sniffing worktops and cupboards. Tries to get everyone's bedtime biscuit as she is very quick to eat treats but understands 'no'. Loves the outdoors, even when it is really cold - wasn't so keen on the snow today. Took her to the vet with Bella today and she was so so good. Vet checked her knee and muscle tone and although everything has healed well and the soft tissue is fine, the muscle tone around the top of her leg where she has not been using it needs building up. She is desperate to do zoomies but I am very careful about that. If she wants to go in the big garden, she goes on her own for a mooch and sniff. The other day when I had her on lead in the garden, Bruce and Rudi were going mad, like Lurchers do, and tried to bait Winnie to join in so I know what would happen left to their own devices. She had a rogue stitch from her spay which was hanging down, although disolvable, and because it was not inside her, it would not dissolve, so the vet has trimmed it off for her. She did not mind the vet's attention at all, even when her leg and knee were being bent to test them, and is definitely not in any pain. She seems very happy and settled. All the dogs have accepted her and when we came back from the vet, the gang of 6 were waiting at the inner gate and could not wait to welcome the 2 newbies back. Even Taz, our old man, who often says 'enough is enough', goes up to Winnie for a sniff and wag and even lets Bella his ears and lick his mouth. I am being one lucky Mum at the moment, and long may it last. Love Margey xxx

What a lovely update from the Lincs. Lurcher home! Good news on Winnie's Knee. Just a thought but would hydrotherapy help her to build up muscle? When our Eddie had a cruciate repair at age 11, he had lots of muscle wastage. Our vet referred him for hydrotherapy which was brilliant. In fact he continued hydrotherapy for the rest of his life and he just loved it. In fact he was in the pool just days before he left for the Bridge.

Anil said that just building up the walking would be sufficient. The main thing is not to let her do sudden movements. So happy for her. What do you mean Margey. Is one little Winnie staying? xxx The reason she doesn't bark is that there is no-one invading her space from the outside world going by. I knew she would be happy in your environment.
