Two weeks ago today Mr Fluffy Plums was found with horrid injuries. He is well on the way to recovery but the fluid under his skin is building up again in a few places. The whites of his eyes are no longer pinky but the corners of his eyes his third eyelid in each eye is red. He seldom sleeps with his eyes fully closed, more often it's with the third eye lid covering some of the eye and at times the eye socket looks a bit lose, like the eye is further back in the socket. Most of the trauma he suffered is around the head and neck area so it's unsurprising if this is related too. I will mention it to the vet when he goes back. This link explains possible causes... pethelpful.com/dogs/Causes-of-Dog-Third-Eyelid-ShowingHowever, just look at his throat, it is healing brilliantly and there's hardly any swelling there now He is a happy friendly soul, greets anyone walking towards us with a waggy tail and offers them his head in the hope of a rub too. He had a little sing song at a dog on the other side of the road but nothing aggressive just gentle arooooing, it was more because he didn't get to meet it I think. I took him to the village shop and after nearly bowling my friend over with affectionate shoves and kisses he lay down on the floor while I browsed and people had to step over him. Not a lot phases Floyd. One thing he has started doing the last couple of days is eating dirt and potting compost. There's a newly potted grass he likes to eat the compost from (doesn't touch the plant) and has been digging at the bare patches of the lawn then burying his nose in the hole to eat the soil. He got a bit guarded of one patch when Phoebe tried to see what he was doing. Eventually to stop her he lay down on it. He's on two meals a day gradually increasing the volume of food and he isn't always clearing every morsel so it can't be out of hunger that he's eating the soil and if were a habit then he'd have done it before now, so perhaps he is lacking some nutrients, doggie vitamins and minerals might be worth trying. Back in Phoebe's seamstress days she modified one of the beds to have a removable base... I had to laugh when I saw Floyd fast asleep having been consumed by said bed ... Life sure isn't dull with these two live wires winding each other up, or rather it's Phoebe doing all the winding up. You can call Floyd off most of the time but little Miss Pushy Pants is soooo persistent

Ha ha ha, lovely update as usual and wow his neck wound is looking so much better, amazing. Re the compost eating, Lottie does the same and always has done, yet Molly and Finn don't and their all on the same diet. I wondered if it could be a habit she got into from when she was with travellers. Lack of food or certain vitamins maybe??

Lovely to see that wound looking so good now As regards the soil eating all my lot eat the soil making big holes if left to do it, no idea why, even the vet asked me if I knew why dogs ate the soil on the common as people kept asking her why their dogs did it! Mine have a very high quality diet and are certainly not hungry maybe there are minerals in it that they don't get any other way I really don't know but a word of warning a friends dog suffered a blockage from soil eating so I do try to discourage it.

Wow, his throat looks sooooo much better. He does sound like such a lovely loon. Some of mine eat dirt too. Nero prefers potting compost, but Scruff loves leaf mould from certain favourite parts of the woods. Doesn't seem to have done either of them any harm.

Just been to meet this lovely hound. He greeted me like an old friend and it wasn't long before he wormed his way behind me on the sofa and laid across my lap.

Glad his neck is healing well. Lewis used to love eating compost and Indy (smooth lurcher) often has a munch over the Park, no idea why.

Fab updates of the fab Floyd. He might even help mellow Phoebe. ... .... Yeh, right. Not if their acrobatic antics around the lounge this morning at 6-30am are anything to go by Thanks for popping around yesterday Heather and for the fishy treats, they are always a favourite. Lovely to see you and have a proper chat. I have to say you and Floyd looked very funny when he draped himself around your shoulders as you sat down, on his way to commandeering his place on the sofa Shame he wasn't there long enough for me to grab the camera. He is rather fond of laps but a bit too big for them. He slipped off of Tim's this morning trying very hard to get comfy and stay on him
