Hi Pete. Welcome to the forum! The vet had another look at Meg's tail today. The raw area is now very small and healthy skin is growing over the wound. There is a little bit of proud flesh but the vet I saw today thinks it should finish healing well as it is (different vet from last week who was wondering whether it would need removing). She was microchipped as well this morning and did not even seem to notice. The best bit is that the tail below the wound is fully functional instead of hanging limp as it did when she arrived.
She is sound asleep beside me on a sofa right now in a spot of sunshine after being out in the yard most of the day. She has started mixing freely with all our dogs as she has learnt enough manners not to be snapped at by the less tolerant dogs and she has not shown any signs of being scared of anything either here or when taken out of the house. She just enjoys every new experience.
I got her a large meaty lamb bone when I went shopping and it has kept her very busy for a few hours. Like all pups she needs to chew a lot but is learning to leave the furniture alone and concentrate on her toys instead. I will miss her when she goes but she certainly makes me feel my age keeping up with her!

hi Annette - I replied earlier but can't see it on the forum - guessing something went wrong, probably user error! Great news on everything you're doing a wonderful job and I'm guessing she's going to miss you and the gang a lot too. Thanks for all the news. We'll definitely get some bones for those busy teeth

Lovely update Annette. She sounds like a fun pup. I chuckled at the thought of you following her out with an umbrella lest she gets wet. Reminds me a little of our Saluki diva (Snoop) who will stand in the doorway and wait/cry to be accompanied out on to the grass if he's not feeling up to going outside on his own.

You must be very excited to be taking this gorgeous girl in to your home. I hope you can post pics of her here. We all become very fond of the dogs that come through the SLR doors. for giving a rescue dog a home and congratulations on getting Meg....there were many who would've loved her in their pack here.

Good news about Meg' s tail. I had to change the dressing tonight and found the wound completely healed over! I have put a dry dressing on it for tonight as the skin still looks very new and fragile but I will try and leave her dressing and cone free tomorrow. It will be so good when she can finally have a normal life. She has been so frustrated at times, it has made life quite stressful for the poor pup. It was impossible to let her have any chew toys or a filled kong in the crate for instance as she could not have reached them. A rare contemplative moment:

Great news. What a lovely surprise for you to see the healed wound! These dark days of head cones and restraint will soon be forgotten once she's fully healed and vaccinated. She looks bigger in that last photo too

I can fully understand the relief at getting the horrible cone off. Bebe hated hers and it was very frustrating for her. Glad Megs tail has healed nicely ♡☆♡

Meg' s tum has had its up and downs since she arrived. Not too good at first, massively improved while on the antibiotics for her tail injury, then a steady deterioration over the last few days in spite of a course of probiotics. The vet suspects there might be more to it than just the usual reaction to stress and food changes and he is going to run some fecal tests. She was given more antibiotics and veterinary probiotics today and we should know more when we get the results of the tests next week. This means that her move to Pete's and Beth's that was due to take place tomorrow is now on hold which is disappointing for all of us. Thankfully Meg herself is still her delightful self and does not seem to be in pain or to be upset by her tum's antics. Fingers crossed and some good old SLR vibes for Meg' s dire rear would be welcome, please!

Healing tum vibes for little Meg. I can imagine you are all disappointed but she needs to be right before she goes.

What a disappointment for all concerned, but better to get her tum sorted before she moves on. She looks a gorgeous little girl.

hi Everyone, we were of course a little disappointed ( lots of excited kids here too) but we obv want what's best for Meg... hopefully we'll be able to relieve Annette from her wonderful work in the next couple of weeks. We're sorry Annette's had to deal will all of the tummy upset 'fallout' as well as looking after the rest of her gang so big thanks Annette. On the bright side it does a least give us time to reread the puppy book we have... we're hoping Meg's read the same one! ps hi Claire and thanks for the homecheck pete & beth

Little Meg was officially declared fit by the vet yesterday and Pete and family will be picking her up on Saturday! She gave me a few more grey hairs along the way, putting herself on three legs for a few days after crashing into something while doing zoomies, getting a small puncture on the top of her head from one of the other dog's teeth while playing and having to have more antibiotics, more crate/lead rest and more cone wearing (I am going to donate her special cone to Pete and Beth just in case!). She has got over her tummy troubles, has put on an enormous amount of weight (9.5 kilos yesterday) and has remained cheerful throughout, greeting the vet with tail wagging and playing happily whenever I could allow her to. She has learnt to wee on command, to sit, to come when called and to give up for a treat whatever she has wrongly got her teeth into. My wellies have travelled a lot without even being on my feet and she has done a tiny bit of landscaping in the dog pen which is kept for this kind of exercise. I am going to miss her enthusiasm and her cuddles but feel great satisfaction from seeing her finally healthy and ready for her new family. A few photos of Meg with my trusty co-fosterer:
