It is a shame, but I do feel it's a lot to ask any dog to accept strange dogs coming into their home ground, let alone one that's new to the home and insecure of their position themselves. I'm sure this would be an 'issue' for many dogs so soon in being placed in a new home, not just for Boris. Not in any way a criticism so please don't me. Very sad all round, but a huge thank you to Kerry and Steffan for welcoming him back.

I do agree Loz, it is a big ask of a dog in a new home to accept boarders. The dog would have to be very laid back to accept regular'visitors' Please don't me either. Not a criticism but an observation.

Boris has now settled back in to the household routine. It took a few days, during which he was somewhat quieter than normal; however, the cheeky chappy we're familiar with has now fully resurfaced. Evidenced by chomping on a brand new tube of toothpaste (saved), and redesigning his harness (not so fortunate). He's re-acquainted himself with the neighbour's dogs whom he like to talk to & taunt across the fence! Weather was lovely this weekend so we had the motley crew out romping in the garden much of the time. Boris posing up a storm... And frolicking with with our two, with Snoop happily playing "piggy in the middle" while Boris tries to steal his frisbee, and Comet chomps down on his leg:

Is he trying to tell you something?!

I agree Claire, Boris so fits in with your two and they obviously missed him. He is so gorgeous. I am so smitten by him, naughtiness and all! Not that I am at all biased by brindle flookiness!!!!

It's a shame it didn't work out but better that he came back into SLR sooner rather than after he had picked up new routines. It sounds like it wasn't too much of an upheaval for him to come back to your pack. I would be interested to hear about the behaviour issues and what the outcome is from the consultation with a behaviourist. He is such a handsome boy and hopefully it won't be too long before he can find a new home where he can settle more readily.

Boris (and Steffan & I) participated in a short workshop yesterday for dogs that are lead reactive. There were about 12 dogs in total. It was well organised and used our respective cars to provide sight barrier for the dogs from each other, and a 'safe' place to retreat to for any dog for whom it all became a bit too much. Copious treats were involved, which Boris enjoyed. He did very well and didn't show any reactivity at all under the safe conditions and with the gradual introduction to the other dogs. We were positioned opposite a GSD who was one of the most vocal dogs there, although not too bad given the context. Boris didn't respond to his barking, which was great. I might even go so far as to say he was the least reactive dog there. In general, we've found Boris' reactivity to be pretty variable. The trigger certainly seems to be other dogs and being on lead, although is not as simple as that either. There are many times when he has been on lead and does not react. And others when you'd expect him not to, yet he does and with extreme vigor & voice. One recommendation made by the behaviourist leading the class is to keep a diary, so that's what we shall do. It's possible his trigger(s) could be as specific as "small dogs on lead, with female handler, on cloudy days"..... we shall see. Today, I've been making liver cake and cooking frankfurters as his (high value) treats. Of course, I have to make enough for x3 dogs as it's tough to only treat one when all 3 suddenly become very motivated to stick to your side like glue and put on their bestest behaviour in the hope/anticipation of a tasty reward.

Sounds interesting. When Rowlf is better we will resume our training sessions with Gavin. It was all going well til fate intervened! We are using a clicker. Do they do that in your group? I am sure Rowlf and Boris were twins separated at birth!!!

Jethro can be triggered by some dogs and not others. He is normally fine with other sighthounds but I have noticed high energy dogs can trigger him, you can almost feel the hyper energy from some dogs. He has improved the more contact he has with new dogs. Boris sounds like he is at a stage where his reactivity can be turned around, he is young enough to learn a new way. Well done Kerry and Stephan for your commitment. You have gone above and beyond for Boris. Keep up the good work, x

Sounds like Boris isn't a really bad case and just needs patience and the right approach and he'll get there. Well done with the liver cake! My pack love it but as a vegetarian it's pretty much torture for me to make for them so I rely on picking up the occasional pack at SLR events.

STONE HYPNOTISERWywy can bark very loudly when meeting other dogs, BUT it is all down to the energy the other dog presents when arriving in Wywy's presence. A high energy arrival means he can be very barky, but the cool calm and collected hound allows Wy to greet calmly. We can usually tell from a distance what a dog is likely to be like, Springers and the like can be high energy, so I use the 'STONE HYPNOTISER' I pick up a small stone in the chucker, and rattle it up and down until we have met the dog, and passed by. Wylie will be fixed on the chucker, he even looks for me to pick up a stone when he sees a dog coming. This works with Wywy but not all dogs are Border Collie / Whippet, and therefore OCD The beautiful Boris still makes me sigh 'If Only'

Thanks for the tip on "hypnotising"! I'm not entirely sure it will work on Boris, but luckily he can be hypnotised with frankfurters We camped out ( Ok, let's call it glamped out) last night. All 3 boys did very well. We know Snoop likes camping as I've done that with him since he was a pupster. Comet has previously tried to breakout from the tent before now, but was no problem this time. And Boris? What a star. Snoozed right from the off and didn't stir until Comet decided at 6am that it was time for everyone to wake up. And in the morning we had a couple visitors: So, what can we deduce? Boris is fine with camping glamping!

Now that is a seriously posh tent! Nero is of the same mind as Comet......"No dogflap in this wall? I'll just make one then." Good job Boris knows how to behave under canvas.
