A Jenny spinning many plates leaves no time for explanations. Suspense not intentional.
Patxi has some admirers. All checks done and dusted. Just a precautionary 'trial' walk planned for next weekend. A very sensible idea. Sort of a test drive. I think Patxi will handle well, just a little cheeky 'round the corners.
Thanks to Romi for helping out.
Edit - if all goes well, Patxi shall remain a Hampshire boy and hopefully been seen at some SLR walks, should his new family wish to meet such a bunch a nice wierdos.

Thank you for sticking with Paxti and he's now a wonderful young dog. We met him with the family who were looking after him as his "Mum" had to return to Spain and they were so upset that they couldn't cope with him. A happy story.

Anyone near enough to Fair Oaks, Hants, able to go walkies with Chris, Jerry & Patxi?
Chris & Jerry are finding it difficult to get enough good people and dogs to walk with. By good, I mean tolerant, understanding and patient. More 'saintly' than just good!
When Patxi was with us, we were starting to plan to meet more dogs, as it's remote where we live, but Chris & Jerry have found the opposite. Too much informal, unstructured happenings, and little chance of calm and fun walks out and about. Patxi needs desensitisation, but must have plenty of time to unwind and chillax in between.
They don't know many dog walking folks, let alone those that are willing and able to help. A couple of friendly Labs the other day were fabulous. Romi's able to meet up at Manor Farm sometimes. We're just a little too far away and I work, so our availability is limited at the time of year.
Apart from the over excitement when seeing other dogs, Patxi's been good indoors, with people and in the car. Once the initial barking is done with, he's fine with other dogs. Frustratingly close to being a fabulous dog, that it's rather stressful. Chris & Jerry are putting a lot of thought and effort into him and the circumstances aren't helping.
Any volunteers please PM me. Please don't post details on this thread, as it could get very off-topic. Thanks.

To clarify one aspect of Patxi. Once he's met a dog and had a brief moment for introductions, he's very good with the other dog(s). He can be very playful and need a time-out enforced, but absolutely no aggression. Just the initial bridging of sight to sniff can result in a bonkers barking bonanza. Zero to 10 in no time at all. Not uncommon. I've seen lots of dogs do it. Ringo used to and occasionally, when one least expects or is not ready for it, still does.

Just got back from our walk at Manor Farm - where we bumped into guess who......yes Patchy. We were just heading back towards the car when we heard barking and Kodi and Hamish went racing off towards it, which is unusual, so I went to investigate and lo and behold they knew it was Patchy before I did. He had been barking at a couple of Spaniels but Gerry said that as soon as he saw Kodi he shut up and wagged coz he recognized him. Chris and Gerry had just arrived so we decided to have a walk around the woods again with Patchy offlead, and he really enjoyed it. He whizzes off into the woods to chase sqillaphants and other monsters then comes racing back to check in. We met a few other offlead dogs and Patchy barked a little at some but not all, and nobody got upset about it and when we walked on he soon followed. This is what this boy really needs......plenty of offlead zoomies to burn off some energy and plenty of interaction with other dogs. So he barks a bit.....lots of dogs bark a bit. He doesn't show any aggression, its just him barking in other dogs' faces to goad them into playing with him. Trouble is when he is on the lead he looks really aggressive so other people steer clear and he doesn't get to interact at all - vicious circle!

I regret to announce that Patxi has returned to us. Heart felt commiserations to Chris & Jerry who put in so much care and compassion over the last few weeks, but the circumstances didn't enable progress. Too many dogs in the area to allow for any down-time when out walking. Patxi has one trigger and it's unknown dogs. We've at least learnt that that is the only issue and just how ingrained it is. Plus, it's done Patxi no harm what so ever, due to Chris and Gerry's diligence. So, much avoid-the-trigger time for a while, during which time we'll start some specific training to help him learn how to put a break on his hair-trigger reaction. Show him there're other ways. .... That's the plan. Threesome! (spot Ringo?)

That's such a shame for all concerned, although Paxti doesn't look too perturbed by being back with the boys. It's difficult taking on a dog with any kind of reactivity.

I'm with you there Loz, it is very hard. There will be a home for him out there, in the right environment, and there will be a dog that is right for Chris and Jerry and their environment.

So sorry that it didn't work out this time. Patchy is a great little dog who will thrive in the right environment. Thank you Simon and Helen (and of course Ringo and Joey) for welcoming Patchy back into your family. I hope Chris and Gerry find the right hound for them very soon.

What a shame but, as we know, having a reactive dog can be difficult, at least they gave it a good try. Back to the training Simon!!
