Sadly, and through no fault Honch needs re homing. He started to develop a fear of traffic a few weeks into his adoption which has steadily got worse. His fear is so great that when Chloe is out walking with him and the buggy he darts into the hedge or behind her causing her great distress. This has resulted in him having limited exercise. Honch is just recovering from poisoning which has also been traumatic for the family, and since his illness has now developed a fear of going outside, even into the garden without someone with him. Chloe and Neil have anguished about the quality of life that they can give Honch and feel that if a better home offer is there then he deserves to have it. They are quite happy for Honch to stay with them until a new home is found. The decision to re home Honch has not been taken lightly, and has caused Chloe and Neil much heartbreak. He is a lovely just 2 year old now, and very child friendly. Just possibly needs a bitch around to bring him back into touch and have some fun. If you think you can offer him a loving home please contact Barney or Jenny. Home checks will be carried out on any prospective adopter. Sorry, for this dog, nobody that works more than 4 hours a day.

Its great news that Honcho is slowly getting over his illness. He looks such a nice family dog I am sure he will soon find the right home. It could not have been an easy decision for the family to make to re home him but they need to do what right for Honcho I wish him well.

Honcho is currently at Maison DADI. Hopefully, as we live in a cul de sac off a cul de sac, he'll regain his cool. He is the picture of fitness and a credit to his adopters.

I took Annie with me on this afternoon's visit, & Honcho interacted with her very well, as he did with Honey & Jack. Annie likes to play rough, & this didn't faze Honcho, who showed no signs of aggression, & indeed was quite submissive.
He does not, however, believe in forming an orderly queue when treats are on offer, although he will sit to take them if there are no other dogs in the vicinity.
The lad is fully recovered from the poisoning incident, & is the picture of health.
We walked the hounds to the local recreation ground, & Honcho was no problem at all on lead - traffic, including a bus, didn't bother him.
At the rec, John & I took the joint decision to let him off lead, & he enjoyed a good run with t'others. His recall wasn't bad, (I've seen a lot worse with Saluki X types! ), & he responded well to treats being offered.
The submissive attitude Honcho displayed in the garden was replicated during playfighting at the rec.
He is by nature a happy little lad, with a waggy tail that reflects this, & is fairly boisterous, which is of course only to be expected of a 2 year old Lurcher.
Honcho will make some lucky person a lovely pet, ideally in a home with a canine playmate.
A short montage of this afternoon's proceedings:

When Honcho arrived we had difficulty replicating his problems, which we put down to our area being quieter than your average graveyard. However there are signs that the behaviour is showing itself and hopefully we can analyse what triggers it.
When we get a new foster I usually walk in front with the house dogs while Mrs D walks behind with the foster dog; sometimes she walks in front with the house dogs and I follow. The point is that the housedogs take precedence over the vistor. After a few days we relax the "rule" and the person for whom it is most convenient goes in front.
Last night Mrs D and Honcho overtook us as the two housedogs had found a brilliant scent. Honcho's demeanour changed; instead of walking relatively well to heel, he suddenly started zigging and zagging all over the path from hedge to lamppost to wheel arch. If we'd had a buggy we'd have been all over the place. I then overtook and he settled back into walking quite well. With my amateur dog psychologist hat on, it appears that Honcho tries to be a leader whenever the opprtunity arises and the answer is to demote him/make him relax.
We also met a number of dogs. He didn't like the big black/dark Newfoundland and Bernese we met on the road, but he played very nicely with the pointer, lab and apso on the field; is this lead/defensive behaviour or fear of big and/or black dogs?
It looks at this stage as if Honcho needs help getting over his fears and his need to lead, despite having neither the brain power or the experience to do so. He'd probably do well in a house with a mature dog to teach him his place or experienced owners who can do some 1 on 1 to impress, in the nicest possible way, who is the boss and who is the dog.

Lovely update John. I am sure that Honey and Jack will bring him on in leaps and bounds. He is a lovely lovely dog, but just needs some guidance and perhaps not to be a leader.

Honcho today on the Greyhound Walk... He was very sociable and well behaved. Here he is meeting Sykes - not the easiest of dogs for a young, male dog to meet up with for the first time - but he (Honcho) behaved impeccably.
