How's Elmer this morning Barney. Back to normal ;D Yup - he had a good night, is fighting fit, & a happy little chappy again, although he was a tad miffed that chicken wasn't on the breakfast menu!
He was tormented by a couple of sqiggles whilst out this morning - they appeared to have a death wish by criss-crossing the cycle path in front of us! Elmer & my crew were extremely animated! ;D ;D ;D

The little scally is totally back to normal, & although he's been playing helter-skelter with Annie his stitches have remained intact, (he very kindly condescended to let me inspect them without making any fuss or trying to escape my clutches ).
Elmer is a 100% play-machine with seemingly boundless energy - he wears me out just watching him! ;D

He sounds like Sam at that age. We thought he would never calm down. Didn't do much damage just ate two alarm clocks. When we started taking care of our daughters westie she must have thought he was a maniac, but she soon bossed him around and they were the best of mates - he really missed her when she went. After having Old English a lurcher was a bit of a shock to say the least.

Yep, Old English are lovely. When we lost our last one we tried locating pups in vain. Did find someone with a pregnant bitch who would put us on the waiting list. The cost would have been £800. We thought about this and decided no. Came accross an ad for lurcher pups, got Sam and never looked back. His Mum was found in woods tied up to a tree. The grooming is a lot easier! However I still have a comb that I used on O/E and it has come in very handy for Bonnie.

Elmer today:
Resting after one of his manic play sessions with Annie:
A comfier spot to rest:
& evidence that the lad's not quite the nervous wreck he was when he first arrived on SLR's doorstep:

Ooh, the grooming. I used to show them before I came to my senses. Got a second at crufts and was offered £1600 to sell my precious Badger. No way.. I then got into rescue and never looked back... but Michael, my now husband is allergic to lots of long-coated dogs. I am so grateful to have found the "lurcher".
Oh the memories of sitting hours on end grooming. I was mad though ;D

Oop. Sorry Barney. Forgot this was little Elmer's thread. He looks an angel today. I don't believe that such a little angel can run rings round you!!! ;D

Oop. Sorry Barney. Forgot this was little Elmer's thread. He looks an angel today. Yup, & about as far from an OES as you can get! ;D ;D ;D
Me neither! I thought that it'd take him at least six months!

A certain someone who shall remain nameless has just flopped down next to me on the office floor, having been hyperactive, (with a short interlude to partake of breakfast), since just before 7.00 a.m.
Whoops!- spoke too soon: he's off again, trying to persuade t'others to play with him.
Wish I could lay my hands on whatever it is that gives the lad so much energy - I'm exhausted just watching him! ;D

great work guys - you can see a massive improvement in his weight and body language in the photos
my litle fern was a very nervous dog and cautious of men too - she has blossomed into a wonderful dog. The nervous dogs give you a special kind of loyalty and make you love them even more !
hope he finds a great loving home
do you think he is best suited to a home with other dogs ?

do you think he is best suited to a home with other dogs ? My guess is that he'd be happy either as an only dog or in the company of others Mike, just as long as he receives the amount of attention he craves from his people-person(s).
Although he still frequently runs away if I approach him, this now appears to be a game, rather than a reaction based on fear, as more often than not he will stop in mid-flight, turn, play-bow, & bark at me, willing me to try to catch him. He's certainly turned into a feisty little chap, & 'tis heart-warming to see the way he's come out of his shell.
He will just as often come to me of his own accord with the intention of giving me a lick, or of receiving a stroke & ear fondling, especially if I'm paying attention to my own hounds which he thinks he deserves more! ;D
Rest assured that he will - that's the only sort we allow SLR hounds to go to!

if you want to wear him out - i can arrange for him to meet fern and shadow (i swear they have everready batteries fitted !!) I actually defy anyone to wear Elmer out!
He possesses a 2-speed gearbox: (1) Stop, (which is purely engaged for obligatory eating & sleeping), & (2) 100 mph, which is employed at all other times! ;D ;D ;D

Another positive this morning - as the rain showed no sign of stopping, I rummaged around & found a coat I thought would fit Elmer, though I guessed I might have some trouble getting it on him.
I guessed wrong! The little chap was as good as gold, standing patiently for me whilst I fiddled with the unfamiliar fastenings.
