Just back from the vets, where Anil gave Rory the thumbs up, (& Rory was of course as good as gold ). I'd assumed that 'twas Sue who operated on him, as she examined him, but it was actually Anil, who thankfully uses dissolvable stitches, so there's no need for a return visit until his second vax, which is due in about ten days.
The lab report on the lump happily confirmed that it was indeed benign.
Rory has put on half a Kilo over the past week, so we're headed in the right direction.
Photos will follow just as soon as I can get the equipment sorted, but in the meantime the lovely lad is flourishing.

Lovely pictures Barney, Rory has such an expresive face, what a gorgeous boy x He is lovely Sue - the engineer's been to carry out the annual gas boiler service, & Rory was all over him.
As for his expression, 'tis normally exactly the same as my eldest grandson's - slightly worried. ;D

Confirmation that Rory is definitely not cat-friendly! As soon as we set foot outside the home-kennel yesterday evening he decided that the walk would be more interesting if 'twas officially designated as a feline hunt, a motion that was carried unanimously by my girls.
Rory has very quickly learned the neighbourhood cats' favourite places to hang out, & was almost quivering with anticipation throughout the walk.
Happily, I also know the local cats' haunts, & although several were spotted/scented, none was put at risk.
'Twas pointless Rory continuing his quest at the end of the walk, since no feline critter has set foot in the home-kennel garden for the past three & a half years. ;D
I have reason to believe, (but nowt that would stand up in court ), that Rory has been assisting Annie with the gardening - all the displaced earth & stones have been deposited back in the hole whence they came, & I'll be keeping a beady eye on the lad's horticultural pursuits from here on in.

Rory behaved impeccably at the vets, where Anil administered his second vax & gave him a clean bill of health. The lad met a decidedly unfriendly Westie, & summat small & furry that vaguely resembled a dog, & he was fine with both.
He weighed in at 19.6 Kg, which means that he now only needs to put on about half a kilo to reach what Jenny & I consider to be his optimum weight.
This lovely lad doesn't appear to have a bad bone in his body - he's affectionate, obedient, very biddable, & loves everybody & most other dogs.
Someone, somewhere, will be adopting a real treasure.

Oooer! Looks like I've managed to foul up previous posts when all I was trying to do was tidy up some of my multitudinous Photobucket pics. Ho hum, I’ll try to rectify the situation later in the day. Meanwhile.........................
Rory had his first off-lead run yesterday as planned, with Annie riding shotgun for me. It was also his introduction to the Town Park, as we’ve not been there for a while due to the recent high temperatures – all our main walks have been in the shade provided by the woods, & the short evening walks have taken place in the children’s park just round the corner from the home-kennel.
I’m pleased to report that the lad’s recall was very good – he came back every time he was asked, though it must be admitted that his return wasn’t exactly instantaneous on each occasion!
‘Tis always a very special moment letting a foster off lead for the first time: this morning was certainly no exception, & it was delightful to watch Rory really enjoying himself.

Edited to say: I think I've now managed to restore all the pics I deleted whilst having a senior moment!

‘Tis a tad difficult to find owt new to say about Rory. He looks to have found his optimum weight though, & continues to grow in confidence, although he’s still a mite clingy – I’ve learned to look before stepping back, (especially in the kitchen), as Rory’s pretty certain to be lying at my feet waiting patiently to see what’s on offer. He also tends to be exciticated on my return from shopping trips.
We found him a football, which he enjoys playing with & tends to deposit in “Annie’s Pit,” together with his tennis balls, until the end of the play session, when everything is taken to either the hounds’ bedroom or mine for safekeeping.
Rory’s loving his off lead freedom & exploring deep in the woods, & his recall remains exceptional, especially to the whistle.
Nowt that he's encountered has fazed Rory, including the next-door neighbours! ;D
All in all, he’s proving to be very steady, loyal & obedient – a happy little soul who will give enormous pleasure & no cause for concern to whoever offers him his forever home.
Barney x
