I'm so pleased that he has settled with you Barney. ;D I think in this house he realized what a pushover Angus is (at twice Rory's size!) and felt he had to take over the boss spot. It was a terrific feeling to do my first foster, even if it was only overnight, and I will be following this thread avidly to see how he gets on. He's a great little dog and deserves the best.

Me too Romi, after having the pleasure of his company on the transport up to Jenny. He is a lovely little feller, sat in the back of the car cuddled up with my daughter ( she would have kidnapped him if she could) I hope he gets his forever sofa soon, he's going to make someone a very lucky owner. There’s absolutely no chance of that here – the distaff side rule the roost, (of course, ‘twas ever thus! :, & won’t let him get away with owt that they don’t approve of. I’m glad you enjoyed your first taste of fostering, & that it was a hound like Rory, who really is no bother. Doubtless in the fullness of time you’ll come across t‘other sort, but please don’t ever let that put you off – fostering is such a vital cog in the rescue wheel, & it’s always very satisfying to realise that you’ve been able to contribute positively to a hound in need finding its forever home.
Thank you so much for the part you played in setting young Rory on the right road.

p.s. Since I can't post photos from the digital camera until my monitor is sorted, I'll attempt to use my mobile phone camera for the first time - I know I can take pics with it, but there's nowt in the instruction manual about downloading them, so I'll need to sus that out.

Rory was a star at the vets, (except that he marked in the consulting room ) - he interacted nicely with a couple of very young Labs & a Westie, & was as good as gold during his once-over. His examination revealed that he was AOK to have his snip, so Jenny & I left him there - please spare the lad a thought.

Jenny delivered Rory back just over an hour ago, & the lad's fine. He's a tad subdued, but not woozy, (& deffo not subdued enough to resist his chicken & rice, which he polished off very quickly ).
I had discovered a small odd looking lump on the outside of his left front paw - this was removed whilst he was under the anaesthetic, & we're pretty certain it was benign.
Rory hasn't worried at either his snip stitches or his bandaged paw, so I've not put a buster collar on him as yet, but will play it by ear.
He also had his teeth cleaned, & this has made a world of difference, but I'll need to soak his food for a couple of days, as his gnashers might be feeling a tad tender. He's also come back with a week's supply of Noroclav tablets.
The girls were delighted to welcome him back, & they've all been very solicitous of his condition, & gentle with him.
Rory has spent most of the time since his meal snoozing, but following me every time I move, & taking up snooze position wherever I deposit myself, (he's currently on a duvet in the office).
He weighed in at just over 18Kg before his op this morning, & we reckon another couple of Kilos will be ideal for him.
Rory will be back at the vets for his post-op checkup on Monday evening, & until then I'll ensure that he takes things gently, although based on experience up till now I can't promise that he'll eat his meals gently! ;D

Rory had a very good, undisturbed night – he was zonked, & we actually had a lie-in until just before 6.30 a.m., which is practically unheard of in the home-kennel during the summer months!
He took his first tablet of the day wrapped in Flora with no trouble, & I located the protective boot that Erin wore after her toe op last year. Dunno if it’ll last long, though, as he usually ‘scoots’ after his very frequent wees – since these more often than not practically coincide with Winnie doing the same thing, I tend to come away with trainers covered in debris.
Rory was again good on the lead in the woods, with no sign of any discomfort from his paw. I haven’t needed to resort to the buster collar, as he’s thus far left both wound sites alone.
The lad’s appetite is undiminished, & he couldn’t wait to see if the girls had left any of their breakfast, in order that he could clean their bowls. ;D
Rory continues to be very well behaved, & the only small issue we have to sort out is his initial tendency to snatch at treats – no great problem, but something we’re obviously dealing with.

He is indeed proving to be an absolute little poppet Sue.
Rory continues to show a healthy interest in food – he finished his breakfast before the girls again this morning, & went straight to Winnie’s bowl while she was still eating: once again she was prepared to walk away & let him have the rest of her meal, but I put Rory in the conservatory while t’others consumed their food at a more sedate pace, & only let him back in the kitchen when they’d had enough. He immediately visited & cleaned each bowl in turn – when he’s on the last knockings he’ll put a front paw in the bowl to stop it sliding around on the lino, so that he can hoover up every last morsel of food.
I walked Rory in to PAH today, where he made very waggy-tailed friends with a couple of Terriers & a chocolate Lab, (this wasn’t exactly convenient for the Lab’s owner, who was trying to fit a new harness on his dog at the time, but was happy to see such lovely socialisation). We’ll draw a discreet veil over Rory leaving his calling card at a couple of places in the store, but he’s such a dear little chap that the staff would forgive him pretty much anything!
Jenny thinks from his general demeanour that Rory may well have been worked in a past existence, & I’m inclined to agree. Although he doesn’t carry any of the lumps, bumps & scars that we would normally associate with a working dog, he is exceptionally interested in cats & squirrels, (there are no rabbits where we usually walk), & goes into full alert mode each time one of the critters hoves into view – he’s very keen, but also apparently willing to wait for an appropriate command before giving chase.
At the end of this morning’s pre-breakfast walk Annie had disappeared into the woods, so I used the trusty whistle & she returned immediately as usual, (there’s obviously no Saluki genes in a Wicklow Hill Hound’s makeup! ). As usual I gave three short blasts, & Rory reacted instantly to the first one, going up on his hind legs with his front paws on my waist & looking at me expectantly, so I’m certainly beginning to wonder……………………….
Rory is a quiet little soul, who has so far shown no inclination to play with any toys: when he’s not out at exercise or following me round the house he’s quite content just to doss around somewhere cool & comfortable – I wonder if he was ever allowed to experience a proper puppyhood?
Whatever, he’s a happy, affectionate & obedient lad who’s not been an ounce of bother since his arrival.

Wow. I am surprised. He was playing with all kinds of toys while he was here. Small furry things and tennis balls. Perhaps he just thought it might annoy Angus. Which it didn't. Any interest in him yet?

I bet that its a real pleasure to be fostering this one. ;D It sure is Mark - I'm inclined to put Rory in the same league as the delectable Jobi, Bonnie & Gracie as far as ease of fostering is concerned, & there ain't no higher praise than that!

The lad is smaller than I expected, (in fact he's just a tad smaller than all my girls) I finally got round to measuring Rory at the weekend, & he stands just 24" to the shoulder.
On yesterday afternoon's walk the lad managed to part company with the bandage on his paw - he hasn't been deliberately trying to get it off, but like Winnie he marks every couple of minutes, & like Winnie he 'scoots' just about every time, so 'tis a bit of a wonder that the bandage has lasted so long. I've not attempted to put a new dressing on, as the wound looks fine, & he'll be at the vets this evening, so I've just been bathing it in saline solution.
The lad is quite animated today - when I arrived back from Tesco he was all over me, & proceeded to do a fast lap of the lounge, including jumping on & off both settees - I told him that this wasn't a good idea before his stitches come out, but 'twas lovely to see.
