when Baxter was with us he was always really good with girl dogs. My friends have a Westie and he was so submissive towards her, he was the same with Penny. It seemed to me to be just when he was on the lead. You are doing such a wonderful job, Graham and I are grinning from ear to ear and still pinning for the lad . Well done

We found when we was here that he is very intelligent and wants to learn new things. He needs his brain constantly using. Just like a juvenile who needs channeling. Have you tried the hidden treat tricks with him yet Ade?

Excellent news; Anil spoke to Ade today & Bax's latest blood tests were much improved. I think Anil will email Jenny the exact details (Jenny - please correct me if any of this is relayed incorrectly), however the message is that on 2 of the tests the enzyme levels have gone right down & are in a normal range now. On the 3rd test the results are higher than might be expected but only half as high as last time ;D ;D Re the trick - Yes! I got a load of paper cups (from work ). I started with 3 cups first. He sat and waited whilst I hid a treat under one (I let him see which one) then I called him over and said 'find the treat'. He immediately sniffed the cup with the treat under it, knocked it over with his nose & ate the treat. After a couple of times, I moved up to 5 cups. Again, I let him see me put a treat under one of them, each time he went straight for the cup with the treat under it. So, time to mix it up a bit. I put a treat under one of the cups, then moved them around, so the treat was now under the cup at the end. He was watching me with great concentration, one ear up the other folder over, head slightly tilted, you know the look. When I called him over he sniffed at all the cups and then knocked over the one with the treat under it & just for good measure, he then sniffed all the other cups again knocking some over in the process just to make sure there wasn't a second treat He's also very good at 'find'. He sits and waits in the hallway with the door shut. Then we hide 2 or 3 treats in the living room, call him in and say 'find'. Off he goes sniffing around....once he's found the first one, we say 'find again' and off he goes again till he's found the second one....gonna expand on this and begin hiding treats all around the house & upstairs. nikki x

We met up with Nikki and Ade on Sunday morning for a walk along the river. We took Mims, Sofi and Megan with us. Baxter was delighted to see them. The walk was really lovely and relaxing, even despite 4 cycles coming past, two irrate terriers picking on Bax and a couple of joggers. At the pub he was really keen on saying hello to one little girl, but not OTT. Go on Baxter. They won't bite you... Off they go Baxter and Mims in the river. Yep, she's boss. Just checking on foster dad And at the pub Baxter is stunning. Expressive with those ears and loving. No Sofi was hurt during the making of this video Click on the picture to start. And Baxter, showing just how clever he is and how quickly he learns in this video. Click on the picture to start.

I'm chuffed to ninepence to read how well Baxter's progressing under the loving tutelage of Nikki & Ade - only problem is that I can't access Photobucket vids that have been posted - I keep getting the message: 'There was a problem playing your video. File has invalid structure.'
Any ideas anyone? (bearing in mind of course that I'm a total technophobe! )

Hi Nikki and Ade, It's so good to see Baxter with such wonderful people. We liked the look of him last year but events overtook and we ended up with a neighbours 5-month old collie x whippet, who has turned out to be a cracker (they called him Jacob - no wonder). Haven't had time to look right back through the thread but are you fostering or can you keep him? It would be great if you could stay together. He looks so at home....

An overdue update!: In a nutshell, Bax continues to be a delight. At time of writing he's been off the Zylkin for a week & a half & there has been no noticeable difference whatsoever, (other than I now no longer have to be careful exactly what I'm swallowing when I have my vitamin tablet when I'm half-asleep in the morning......) We've settled into a fairly regular routine of football twice a day (he's winning) combined with various walks. Meeting other dogs is still a challenge but that problem isn't going to be resolved overnight & at least it is slowly moving in the right direction. He's demostrated repeatedly (last weekend with Jenny & Michael's girls being the latest example) that he gets along fine with other dogs, it's just the meeting strange dogs when on-lead that gets him anxious. Perhaps he was attacked by another dog in those circumstances somewhere in his past. Other issues are gradually fading away, stuff like him getting exited over carrier bags (or bin bags) has gone completely now. His initital tendency to bark often (leaving us to try to work out why....) has also gone, he has a fairly definite way of getting our attention in various circs now ("I want to play"=drop a toy at our feet. "I want to go outside the toilet"=questioning quiet bark. & so on.....) Anyway, without further ado, some pics & videos from various outings..... Video: Running up Teletubby hill at New Hall:Video: Walking in the forest, also around New Hall:Video: Playing football in the same forest:Video: Getting his ball from a tree. Can't think how it got stuck there guv....This was a different outing; we took Bax to Lea Valley Park last week. Highly recommend this place, it's free to enter, dog friendly, large, well-kept & (when we went) almost empty: More football; he's tired already at this point:Me throwing his ball from behind a hedge. This seemed a bit more impressive at the time since he can't actually see me most of this shot but waits nicely anyway:Timeout:Just a baby, still being bottle-fed:And this outing was today; we took Bax to Gibberd Gardens in Harlow (towards Sheering) which I HIGHLY recommend. It's not completely free (£4/person, dogs free) but it's a lovely place & is dog-friendly (altho Bax was the only dog there today). Bax sussing out the lay of the land: "OK, I approve": "If I'm going to have to sit, I may as well try out one of these bench things"Practising for when he meets the Queen: Chillaxing"Say cheese....": Art imitating life: Can you spot which one is Bax?Video: New trick tried today, jumping up (as on a bench):Video: In the drink once again. Total water baby:Video: 1st person perspective is Nikki, spec in distance is me!:That brings us up to date just now! All camerawork by Nikki as usual, except the one she's in.. Ade

'Tis marvellous to see the change in the lad thanks to Nikki & Ade - my cup would runneth over if only the pesky laptop would allow me to view Photobucket vids.
