Sorry I didn't let you know Karla, but Sharon didn't want to put the mockers on anything. All is going well though.

HI everyone, Sharon here at last! Firstly huge apologies for what has been an extremely frustrating week. The reason this post has taken sooo long is that we have recently changed over from Virgin cable to Sky and the broadband has been the last thing to come on (which it literally did ten minutes ago!) Though at work I've managed to pick up the odd email and even post on here, the timing hasn't coinincided at all with us getting the lovely Fin so here is all the news I've been dying to impart! Fins lovely mummy was kind enough to bring him all the way from Essex to Portsmouth for a visit Monday last week. They stayed the whole day and in that time we look in a long walk so I could check out Fins recall and how they all interacted with each other. The day was a success and we agreed that Fin would stay with us to see how things went on from there. For the next couple of days, everyone was a bit down, I think Fin was a bit homesick and the girls thought the shine had been taken off them a bit. However, with a few good walks and plenty of equal treatment, they all seemed happy again. We had a few snarls over bones and that sort of thing, nothing too unexpected, until last night when Fin must have done something REALLY BAD to offend my little Skye as all Hell broke loose and a big fight ensued . Now had this been my other bitch, I'd be worried right now as though the nutered one, she is very dominant and clingy and possessive over her humans. Whilst Skye rarely looks for trouble, when pushed she is a dirty little fighter and wont back down. I was mainly worried that Fin might hurt her as he is the much bigger and stronger dog but though he fought his corner, he backed down knowing full well the pecking order. Skye was ratty with everyone after that me included so we left the miserable liitle scrote to sleep it off. Though I will of course monitor the situation, harmony seems to have been restored today and all the dogs are currently all outside snoozing together. For a long time now I have walked the girls on a coupler and decided from the outset that walking 3 would be no less of a convienience for me. We adapted the coupler to a tripler and put Fin on it from the second day of having him and he took to that like he had been doing it all his life. I've never had a dog as old as Fin before and at first it was a bit of a surprise how steady he is, how much sleeping he does and how little havoc he causes (quite a NICE surprise to be honest!) However, first impressions can be very decieving as last Monday we took all 3 to our first ever agility class. To be honest we only really took Fin along to save him being bored at home on his own. Now my girls whist they got the gist of what they had to do, both looked wholly unimpressed by the whole thing and couldn't really wait to get out of there. Fin however became a different dog. He was the loudest in the whole class, had no trouble with jumps, tunnels, seesaws and stuff and generally proved himself to be an agility star. It turns out he HAS done it before in his youth but not for long as it made him too hyper. I think in future, I will be taking Fin and leaving the girls at home! Anyways, I will get round to posting pictures now I've get the net up and running once again but better sign off so I can see England kick off, but all is currently great and we are confident that Fin has found his forever home. Thanks to all concerned at SLR for your help in his story so far x

Oh Sharon, I am so pleased that things are going well - despite some teething troubles. Fin is such a steady boy - I was amazed at how quickly he went to settle back on a cushion when Cleo and I visited them - after initial excitement he just chilled and ignored us!
Please send lots of photos - and more updates - dying to see Fin again. I'm sure Natalie will be absolutely thrilled that he has found a forever home. xx

How lovely to see those photos, especially after the one on the web page where he looks so folorn. Wonderful happy ending! Yes Jane, like all whippets Fin has mastered the knack of looking forlorn when he thinks it will get him something scrummy but he's actually a very smiley contented chap. Think he has got over most of the homesickness now, amazing really when you consider that he was in his previous lovely home for 8 years! We've had the not-so-nice parts about being a dog to have done after the last few days, ie worming, claw cutting and ear cleaning and he has recieved all this unwanted attention with graciousness. Natalie warned me that he was bad for having claws done but compared to Skye he was like a miracle dog. (I even managed to get more than ONE claw done in a whole day and he didnt even try to avoid me for the next week!) For the last month or so I have gradually been introducing the girls to an all BARF diet and Fin has been included in this experiment. Though I normally would like to introduce foods gradually, with the difficulties of trying to fairly feed 3 at the same time without squabbles, Fin has more or less been chucked onto this new regime straight away and seems to be doing very well on it. The only difference with him is that I've started him on 5 ml of cod liver oil per day just as a little helping hand. I'm currently trying to use up a large quantity of tinned dog food which the dogs are breakfasting on at the moment with BARF for tea. To be honest I cant wait to be rid of this tinned stuff, both the girls had the squits on it yesterday though Finny was ok but all were fine after a tea of raw tripe mince licking the bowls till they could see their reflections in them. I've just put in my first big order with Albion Meat Products and hopefully by the end of July the dogs will be on BARF full time. All the previous inflammed tempers seem to be completely forgotten thankfully. All 3 are still walking very well on the lead though rather guiltily I've been laying them off a bit over the last few days. Though they all seem desperate to go out, as soon as I take them, they are all at the point of near collapse after a very short time in the heat. Skye though the youngest and fittest and probably the best colour to cope with the sun seems to suffer most and Fin who you would expect to be the worst copes very well. He's also the only one to have enough intelligence to know what an electric fan is for. Anyway, things are all going well here in Portsmouth, Karla, Pete is away to work again on Wednesday but if we could possibly arrange Manor Farm with Romi sometime during the 3 weeks after July 21st that would be lovely.
