Sunny was found wandering in Essex. He is possibly 7 years old. Has been neutered at some stage and apart from having a flea bite reaction, which is now in hand, has a good heart rate and in general good condition. His muscles need building up which suggest that he has been penned for a while. He has some thickening of the bone in the lower parts of his legs, joints, but this doesn't seem to inhibit his movement. His teeth are in good condition. We were asked to collect him as he was so depressed in kennels and would just sit at the back of the kennel huddled. Sunny must have been loved at one time. Perhaps stolen as a youngster and used for coursing. He is looking for some tlc, and does like to be stroked and tickled, although scared if a hand is raised. He travels easily and quietly and is a poppet on the lead. Sunny is being fostered in Hertfordshire. From kennels To freedom

Sunny is settling in really well, and is a complete sweetheart. At first he was quite excited, and has spent most of the evening walking around, but for the last hour or so he has gone into his crate and finally fallen asleep. He looks so sad, but has the most gorgeous eyes and is really handsome. His tail has come out from between his legs, and instead of hunching up and cowering, he's being more relaxed, and his body isn't as tense. I think the quiet of a house must be a haven compared to the noise of the pound He's been very inquisitive, and has checked out the house thoroughly, and follows you around. He wasn't interested in eating, so hopefully he'll have something in the morning. He is a bit handshy at the moment, and will cower slightly when you move to stroke him, but once he feels you are just stroking him, he relaxes, and even comes back for more He's a shy boy, but I'm sure he will soon come out of his shell. Here he is tucked up in his crate: Going... Going... Gone

Yep, Mr. Sunny Jim is the sweetest older gent He went out for another toilet trip a little while ago, and now he's alternating between resting in his crate and wondering around from room to room. So far he hasn't wanted to do much apart from wander around. We're just getting on with things as normal and leaving him to his own ways while he gets used to everything. He's been clean in the house so far He's so gorgeous that of course we would love to give him big hugs and kisses, but yes he does shy away if hands are raised around his head or he's loomed over, so we're all being slow and gentle around him and letting him come to us. He's 26" at the shoulder, and I'd say he's probably saluki grey mix, definitely a good dollop of saluki in there anyway. He's a sweet, lovely boy, just shy and confused right now and needs time and patience.

Here's the Sunny saga for the morning! After lots of wandering Sunny finally settled and had a good night. I slept downstairs to make sure he was OK- he was in the next room and had been quiet for a while, and in fact when I snuck a peak he had settled down on the leather sofa that was Ellie's favourite. It made me smile so much, he'd been coming over and looking at the sofas as if he wanted to get on but hadn't been brave enough, but now he's confident enough to sleep there. (That sofa was meant to be the dog sofa- our fosters seem to get it, why don't our two? ) He looks so comfy and relaxed, it's the most wonderful feeling knowing how much better he must feel in a quiet warm house with his own sofa to sleep on compared to where he was before. On the walk this morning he met a poodle x, (who was nervous of him) a doberman (who can be a bit macho) and a rottie x (who barked very loudly at him in excitement) and greeted all politely. He is very well behaved but is quite lost and unsure of himself out on the walks. When we got back he started up his wandering again, going from room to room and kept coming to look at me as if he was asking me for something. I gave him his breakfast of chappie and some egg but he didn't want to know. He wouldn't stop and I felt so bad that I didn't know what was wrong. I was still worried that he hadn't eaten and wanted to try to get something in him. Yesterday I brought some raw chicken wings to possibly try him on and see if our 2 liked them as well. He'd been so uninterested in all the food offered so far that I wasn't hopeful. But as soon as I offered him a wing he took it straight away and crunched it down like a pro! It was wonderful. Definitely looks like he's been fed raw before. He came eagerly looking for more so he had 2 more wings, and then to top it off, a tin of sardines. I assumed he would be hungry but thought he couldn't have been starving or he would've eaten the other brekkie offered. He's happily dozing away on the sofa so now I know he was wandering around because he was hungry. If only they could tell us these things! It is quite nerve wracking as we haven't fed raw bones before, so I think we'll be watching his poos very carefully for a while! But he obviously loves raw, we'll try and mix and match with burns but I think he'd do very well and be very happy on a completely raw diet. He's also having a daily cod liver oil tablet to help his coat and joints. I'm going to now now and have a rest while it's all quiet!

Thanks for a lovely update on this gorgeous little boy. I am sure he must be so overwhelmed about all the kindness he has experienced just within a day, I can imagine it must all be a little too much for him to take it in just yet and he just can't believe his luck - bless him! Viviane. X

Wouldn't you love to be able to see what was going through their mind sometimes? I can only begin to imagine how relieved he must be feeling.

What a fabulous start for Sunny. Thank you for taking him in Hannahliz; I love how he's taken over his own diet sheet straight away! Don't worry about him digesting the bones; dogs come ready programmed to do that. If I can help you with dietary suggestions, please PM me. He sounds wonderful, and we're keeping a close eye on his progress down here in Verwood .....
All the best,
Val X

Yep, the condition of the teeth would tie in with having a good raw chomp. Probably given the end of the catch for the day. He was scared when I first stroked him, but did lean in when I tickled him under the chin and kissed his head. I love the older ones. I think he is probably around 7/8, but had a hard life. I'm doing a bit of long research to make sure he wasn't stolen as a youngster.
