A little update I can't believe Lulu has only been with us a week! I think her and Aalto are settling in nicely together although they are still getting used to each other and play can be a bit of a power struggle at the moment.....but they will then happily lie on the sofa together, Lulu using Aalto as a pillow ! Lulu is a bright little button! She definitely knows her name (and Lulu suits her.....although we're calling her Loopy Lu most of the time ). She's starting to sit on command, and we're working on recall. We had her up at Ewan's parents in suffolk after the SLR walk, and she was great with recall in their big garden. Her and Aalto had a fab run around, and Aalto was frustrated to learn that Lulu is just as fast as he is and he can't catch her! She is a very bouncy happy little dog, quite timid around new dogs, but not with people, and she was fine when she met my little 3 year old nephew. She does cower occasionally when you do something too suddenly, or when you raise your arms quickly......so I think she's probably used to harsh treatment We are a little worried about how often she goes for a wee (she is the complete opposite to Esme!). Although we take her out into the garden every few hours (sometimes onlead to keep her out there longer), she just wants straight back in again. She only seems to go for a wee first thing in the morning, and last thing at night, and only in the garden (except for 2 accidents she's had on Ewan's mum's kitchen floor and living room carpet )! She has only gone for a wee once on a walk. I'm not sure how we help with that....we try to get her to notice what Aalto is doing and take her over to sniff when he's been, but she just stands there and waits until we give up and take her back inside. When she does go, we give her treats and praise her. Does anyone have any other suggestions? x V

Fantastic update on little Lulu, well done, Vaila! Referring to her weeing, perhaps she does not need to go that often as your boy, Aalto. I think girls tend to have one big wee to empty their bladder completely, whereas boys tend to "save it up" and leave their mark where other dogs had been before.......... Perhaps it helps if you take her to the same spot you like her to use each time you let her out to do her wee. She will smell that she's been there before and eventually she will grasp what you expect her to do. Once she has done her wee at that spot, give her lots of praises and make a fuss -she will crack it in the end. One thing you might want to bear in mind, though, if you take her to a grass spot to make her wee the grass will burn and go bare (this does not happen with boys). So maybe you want to take her to a gravel patch to eliminate this problem (and save your lawn). Viviane. X

PS....she is definitely a lurcher in a small package For such a little thing she's a first class counter surfer! We found her scavenging on Ewan's mum's dining table, and I've just caught her standing on the kitchen worktop pinching cheese! Cheeky monkey! I'm a bit worried she does herself an injury with her acrobatics! Also, unfortunately for her, Aalto seems to be top dog, so she goes to all the trouble and then Aalto pinches her winnings

Loopy Lu is getting cheekier and cheekier and we love her more and more (even when she's being naughty) She's booked in at the vets for her second stage vaccinations on Friday morning and we'll arrange neutering with the vet while we're there. x V

Regarding weeing. When I first brought Genie home...she was so tried and stressed and excited she barely weed at all. Plus she was so eager to be with us that her mind was focussed on ...me me me in particular. I just relaxed about it and so did she. One thing I've found helps is to put a garden chair in a sheltered bit of the garden. I dress warm and go outside with them and they snuffle around and I'm not so impatient as I'm warm enough (though not the last few days) and it just happens. This little madame is gorgeous. I want one!

Thanks paganmilodog I think she's starting to get the hang of things now. She seems to prefer going on the grass, and when we go out for a walk around the neighbourhood she'll wait till we get into the park and walk across the grass, or when we get back and she'll go in the garden. She's now going at least once in the day as well as morning and night, so she must be more comfortable. x V

A little update Lulu is just back from her first follow up appointment at the vet after being neutered on Wednesday. The vets are very happy with her healing scar and her temperature is normal ;D We have another appointment next Friday, and after that, she should be ok to get back to normal exercise..... so we're trying to do some indoor recall training in preparation for some off lead time as soon as she's ready ;D

So glad that Lulu is healing well, little sweetheart. Good training plan, I always start with garden work first it gives you a good idea on what's to come, but if your other baby has a good recall then half the work is done

Lulu went to her first dog communication (socilisation) class yesterday. She is in the "shy guys" class, for nervous dogs, (Aalto is in "naughty but nice" for the delinquents). She was very well behaved. She sat patiently waiting for her lesson to start, unlike Aalto who gets bored and wines and protests. We were worried that as soon as she was in the field with all the other nervous dogs she would turn into a monster, fortunatly she didn't...but she was very timid . She was a great success with all the humans cooing over her. Fingers crossed we can build-up her confidence and the crazy dog we have in the house will start to show her face when we are out on walks with her. It was also good to see how she acted in the field off lead. She stuck to our heels most of the time, and was very good at recall on the few times she got distracted by an interesting smell and lagged behind ;D
