I've just realized that I haven't update her thread for so long. Many of you know that she had to have an emergency spay last year and then some more teeth removed in September. She came through that op really well, but we won't be able to put her through any more ops. She is too frail. Since she arrived she has attended many many meet and greets, pee wee walked for the rescue, befriended many Rescue dogs and pups coming in. Puppy sat for Jessie, that was lovely to see, and she was the only dog that Jessie let near the pups in those early days. She genuinely doesn't have a bad bone in her body. Even cat friendly. She is now probably coming up to around 14 years old. Like Elly before her, her legs are giving way, and she cannot stand still for long. She sleeps the day away, and sometimes doesn't want to come out on a walk. Unfortunately her problems are also neurological and so she does lose her poo a couple of times a day. We have all hard flooring downstairs and so it is not a problem. She will run outside and not be able to stop herself. This is so funny and cute, but also sad when she bumps into something or one of the dogs. All our pack here are very gentle with Esme. She no longer sleeps upstairs as she fell down the stairs just before Christmas. So, she sleeps in the office with Rory, and she is happy to be downstairs. She still eats well, and loves her treats. We know we are on borrowed time with her now, and we will just take each day as it comes. But whilst she can still wander around once she is up and about, we won't think about any of the sad bits. We so love Esme. She came in November 2009 and it has been a lovely 3 years.

Lovely update, Jenny. Thank you for sharing.

Bless her. It's sad when they get old, but there's something very comforting about being able to give them a happy life, whatever the limitations. The image of her and Rory trotting around your house like 2 old codgers is truly heartwarming

Sweet little Esme I love the golden oldies after taking on little Winston who will be sixteen this year I would have no hesitation on taking on another senior.

What a lovely post. I hope someone loves ME that much when I am old! My thought exactly! ;D I too love the idea of Esmé and Rory keeping each other company (and warm) in their old age, and lets hope it last a bit longer. It must be difficult for both of them with so little sight or none. I hope the snow goes soon for both their sakes - and for Jenny's with all those dogs about the place.

Esme has good days and bad days. The good days she can come out on walks and even runs as it is easier for her. She can't control her bowels, and luckily she is always solid so it is not too much of a problem. She regularly wakes up around 3.30 a.m. for a wee. Luckily Michael obliges and then Rory comes up to the bedroom for the rest of the night. She has some little boots that Julie and Clare got her on their holibobs and it does help her with walking round the slippery floors of our house. Her whole life revolves around food these days. Anyone in the kitchen and she is there. Bless her. She forgets that she has been fed soon after she has been. And hovers for treats.
