Eddie is already in his third home. And he has been doing very well, but circumstances have changed for his owners and they can no longer devote the time to Eddie that they had hoped.
We are assisting them to find a new FOREVER home for Eddie.
Please, please only apply if you have the time and the devotiion/love to put into practice the good work that they have started.... Eddie has a high prey drive and recall is not always good. Here is what his current owner has to say about him.
Any contact through Barney or Jenny please.
....................................................................................
Eddie is a 2 year old neutered, fully vaccinated, wormed and flea and tick treated (Frontline). He is tall, weighs about 25kg and he has a stripey orange-sandy rough coat. We rehomed him from a family in March who were relocating due to work and would be living in rented accomodation for the foreseeable future. Their family had 2 children of 10 and 12 years and no other pets.
We also have 2 small girls - 2 and 4 - and Eddie has been unbelievably good with them. He allows them to crawl over him, dress him up and is excited when they arrive home, alarmed if they cry and will wait for them if they disappear on a walk. Eddie is lazy and passive at home and spends most of his time sleeping and watching. He loves cuddly toys and loves to have a tug game with his bits of rope. He likes to chase a ball or a stick but has no desire to return them to you. He enjoys water - we live near the coast - he has learnt to swim and likes to ride in our boat. When excited he will mouth at an available hand and we have been working hard to stop this.
Eddie had had no training when he arrived with us and has made good progess. He is beginning to walk to heel and his recall is generally good when off the lead when there are no distractions. He adores running and chasing anything. However he will chase cats as well as rabbits etc. He desparately wants to play with other dogs and will bounce around them barking and is very hard to recall at this point.
Eddie has spent time at my parents house who have an older collie cross bitch and when he has been with her he has followed her lead and has been calmer, easier to walk and is less likely to hare after other dogs.
Eddie is very loving and is desparate to be loved and to do the right thing - we are convinced that he received very little in his past, was not fed properly, he was underweight when we got him, and had been struck. He settles very well and is trusting and gentle with anyone who shows him affection.
Now to why we must rehome Eddie. We love him very much and it has been an unbearably hard decision to take. We agreed to take Eddie in the belief that he would accompany my husband to his marine based work on a very regular basis - thus avoiding him having to be left for longer than 2 - 3 hours. However this is now no longer possible and Eddie is having to be left for far too long on almost a daily basis. He is very unhappy and has started to cry when left and will destroy things. This is no life for him. We want him to live with people who can keep him company and train him more than we can and we really feel he would benefit from living with another dog.
.........................................................................
With good sound training and a regularly routine Eddie will calm down into one faithful hound, but the work needs to be put in.
SLR will homecheck all prospective adopters.
