Regrettably Mickey, (was Kee), has come back into the SLR fold & is looking for a new home, since he will not now be going to the States with Janeen & Koda, her Rhodesian Ridgeback, in a couple of months.
Koda is a very gentle, submissive dog, & unfortunately Mickey has been taking advantage of this & making the lovely big lad’s life a misery by showing unwarranted aggression towards him.
Janeen has worked unstintingly at training Mickey with good results, but unfortunately there is not a great deal that she can do to deal with his aggression issues towards more timid dogs – he is fine with those that are prepared to stand their ground.
Mickey is temporarily with Donna & Mark in Surrey, but he can’t stay there in case the worst came to the worst & he attacked & injured lovely old Judy, who according to the vet would not cope with a GA because of her kidney problems. The lad will therefore be coming to me early next week, after Gracie, Lily & Lottie have moved on to pastures new.
We will be looking to rehome Mickey as an only dog – please direct all enquiries to myself or Jenny.
As a reminder of what Mickey looks like, a couple of pics from yesterday:

Mickey joined us today on the Surrey walk and he was a model dog. He gravitated to the more dominant dogs on the walk - Penny and Molly the GSD, but his recall was excellent, he stayed with the pack and there was no sign of aggression in this very mixed pack.
He is a lovely dog and is in excellent condition. A single dog home will be excellent for him.

It seems ironic to describe a dog with aggression issues as impeccable BUT that's exactly what Mickey's behaviour was today. He's only been here two days and his behaviour is better than Judy's and she's been here 10 years Janeen must have devoted hours of time, patience and love to him. His obedience is the highest level I have ever seen in a Lurcher - almost like a collie's brain inside a lurcher body In fact his behaviour overall is very collie-ish: He is obviously very intelligent and I think he could do very well at flyball, agility or something similar. I'm really sorry we can't keep him here for longer as he's a pleasure to work with

I met this more than stunning dog today and he behaved like a total gentleman. He is to die for. I can't do boys or I would have him instantly. I am so hoping the next home he gets will work out for this lovely boy.

He is indeed Laurie. I'm so pleased that you got to meet the lad today & saw for yourself that when I waxed lyrical about him in his original thread I wasn't telling porkies! ;D

It is a very sad situation, but not one that Janeen took lightly. We had numerous discussions and Mickey was forgiven two incidents with Koda, the first of which resulted in surgery. Janeen has worked wonders with Mickey, and yes there is a lot of collie in that brain. He needs stimulation and he wouldn't take any prisoners with a submissive dog, but will tow the line with more dominant dogs. Koda has the sweetest temperament and Janeen did the right thing by both dogs. Mickey will excel as an only dog, and if we can find him an energetic new owner, then he will have found his niche.

He's going to make someone a great companion He is indeed Karen - he was as good as gold on the trip from Surrey, & has reacquainted himself with the Harlow Hooligans, who seemed pleased to welcome him back - he especially enjoyed the attentions of Winnie, who administered a good grooming to his ears!

... And the pictures are where? ;D Regrettably the camera that Angie & Fred kindly gave me when mine died suffered a fatality after coming out second best in an altercation with the travelator at Asda, Harlow.
Keith then generously gave me his old camera, complete with all instructions & the CD that came with it. Unfortunately my computer refuses to download the installation program from the CD - possibly because 'tis geared to Windows XP & my operating system is Vista.
I'll keep plugging away at it, but for the time being pics are a no no.

Mickey is a fab. hound and will make someone a loyal and wonderful companion. He sure will Mark, he's a lovely boy. He slept through the night on the settee with me & when I got up to make a cuppa he followed me into the office, where he's now snoozing on the dog bed.
Cheers,
Barney
p.s. Thank you for the superb hand-crafted leather SLR collars - hopefully they'll serve as a great reminder to adopters that we do need their new hounds' collars to be returned, along with leads, (which we are desperately short of), & of course that old favourite, the SLR collar tag!

Barney xBarney its probably best to download the installation programme on line, it will be more up date than the cd anyway, just google your cameras company, and look for the download section (ie Kodak Easyshare installation for vista)
