Cai was found by a member of the public with a large leg injury. The vets stitched up the wound and he was then sent over to holding kennels via the dog warden. He is a gentle giant, a scared little pup. 27 inches at the shoulder Cai acts like a dog much older at the moment. He walks easily on lead and likes to pop his head into your hands for a stroke and a cuddle. We have no background on him, but the holding kennels say that he is used to be with other dogs. Cai is looking for love, and possibly another dog around for company to bring him out of his shy shell and to re-live being a pup again. He is staying with Uncle Barney tonight, and all being well will go over to Rowan and Co tomorrow afternoon. Here he is, Cai.

Where to start in describing this lovely lad? (Please excuse me if this turns into a disjointed rambling ).
Cai behaved impeccably in the waiting room at the vets, where he was confronted with a couple of very hairy, very yappy terriers, a very vocal blonde GSD, & an extremely large, (for ‘large’ read ‘obese’), black Lab, all of which left him completely unfazed. He was also very good whilst Anil was doing what vets do during a thorough examination, & when he had his vax & was microchipped. His wound is looking good, & the stitches can come out in a week or so, or wait until he has his second vax.
Jenny & I took him for a little wander in the field behind the surgery, during which he walked well on the lead, as we had been told he did, & he had his first poo since coming into SLR’s care, (but by no means his last – the boy is not housetrained! ). He also clearly demonstrated that he knows what bunnies are! ;D
Cai hopped into the houndmobile with no problem, (but boy, did he whiff!), & was as good as gold during the journey to the home-kennel. On arrival I took him for a walk before introducing him to the Hooligans & Gracie, & once again he was very good on the lead, with no pulling whatsoever, though his navigational skills could do with a bit of honing. He was polite to every dog we encountered whilst out.
Cai’s tail was between his legs when I was introduced to him, & Jenny & I thought he might be scared of men – well he ain’t scared of this one : he’s an affectionate lad, & has repeatedly come to me looking for a fuss. He’s currently lying next to me on a duvet in the office whilst he completes the drying out process following his shower, (of which more later).
The tail was again almost under his chin when I opened the front door & he saw & heard the Hooligans & Gracie congregated on t’other side of the stairgate, but it soon returned to normal, which for Cai is an aesthetically pleasing curled shape. Introductions were duly made, & my lot gave Cai their seal of approval, especially Winnie & Annie.
When Cai discovered the bowls of Burns Chicken & Brown Rice in the kitchen he gave an excellent impression of being ravenous. He still found room for chicken nuggets, though! ;D He currently doesn’t possess good manners when treats are on offer – he’s not at all aggressive, but he hasn’t yet grasped the niceties of the queuing system, & is prone to taking treats out of the other hounds’ mouths.
Cai was not impressed by having his shower, (during the course of which I had one as well, though not by design! ), but he’s a tad more fragrant now, & Advocate will be administered shortly.
In her introduction to the boy’s thread, Jenny wrote: “Cai acts like a dog much older at the moment.” Not any more he doesn’t Mummy Chook – he’s been bouncing off the walls with, (would you believe?), little Gracie – to such an extent that he’s been introduced to the water pistol, & to the crate for a short time out. He didn’t make a fuss about being crated – just lay down & waited patiently to be let loose again.
All in all during our short acquaintance thus far, Cai has proved to be a really super lad, (notwithstanding the fact that he’s a pup – we reckon about 10 months old - & I don’t do pups ).
Cai will thrive in the company of at least one other dog, & will make a great addition to a Lurcher-aware family.
Barney x p.s. Cai is positively, definitely, absolutely a countersurfer, & being quite a big lad he is capable of reaching the furthest point of any worksurface. His bin-raiding propensities have yet to be demonstrated................................................ ;D

Great fun then Barney. Helen, Rowan and Hannah will have him shipshape in no time. And Finn will teach him all the good bits, I am sure. And Tipton will lick him into shape in no time... Little cherub eh ;D

Little cherub eh ;D 'Little cherub' slept with me on the big settee last night, (& very cuddly he was too ) - until 3.10 a.m., when he decided that playing with little Gracie would be a splendid idea! Gracie was quite happy to go along with this jolly wheeze, since they get on very well with esch other, & when they're playing 'tis sometimes difficult to remember which one is the youngster!
I can't imagine that Cai bouncing around the lounge & charging up & down the stairs in the early hours is entirely conducive to encouraging good neighbourly relations, so the water pistol was produced again - its use wasn't necessary, however, since he remembered it from the previous evening. I did crate him for 10 minutes, though, in the, (forlorn ), hope that he would then settle down to sleep on the settee again - no chance!! The faint hope of any further sleep, (for me at any rate), was abandoned in favour of putting the kettle on & catching up on some paperwork.
Naturally, as soon as I sat at the computer the little buggertreasure laid himself down on the duvet in the office & nodded off peacefully. Ho hum........................................................

We've checked this out- does bear a similarity. But it said on one of the posters that the missing dog needed heart medication; if Cai is this dog would a heart problem have been picked up at the vets/would he be ill from missing his meds by now? Hope everything gets sorted soon

We've checked this out- does bear a similarity. Yup - the dogs are indeed similar, but there are differences in their heads, ears & paws.

Just wondered if the missing soap bar from your bathroom basin has turned up again? ;D I discovered half of it in the hounds' bedroom, but the other half has vanished without trace. I guess if Cai starts foaming at the mouth tonight Rowan will be pleased to know that he hasn't got rabies!! ;D ;D ;D

You mean, Barney, he has actually eaten it..............!! Well, it can't have tasted very nice at all. ;D ;D It has probably taught him a little lesson in life, to leave the soap alone and best stick with counter surfing or bin raiding ............for the time being. Viviane. x
