This guy is such a sweetheart in the house. He had a funny 5 mins earlier, roaching and rolling around on his back, biting at the air, and making goo goo eyes at us He really has got a lovely nature. He's just had his third walk of the day and saw yet another deer which had him lunging but he did calm down and walk in the opposite direction after some correction. With a little time and a confident handler this boy will really shine

Sorry Donna - I didn't pick up your phone message until a few minutes ago, after I'd had a word with Jenny - she had emailed me this morning regarding the situation with Moss, but I didn't see her message until after my return from an extended walk with Keith & his crew.
The lad can of course come back here pending us finding him an alternative foster home that doesn't have a pig of a neighbouring farmer who brags about shooting dogs!
Please bear with us whilst we attempt to resolve the matter of getting Moss back to me a.s.a.p., as I'm out of the loop as regards travelling tomorrow, although I'll be available at any time to receive him into the home-kennel.
Barney x
p.s. We're really sorry that you & Mark have been faced with this predicament, since we have the utmost faith in you as fosterers.

Barney thank you so much and I cannot apologise enough Moss is a fabulous dog and we are more than a little in love with him. He is already showing signs of bonding with Mark and I have just had a lovely greeting from the lad and I'd only been gone 30 mins I am sure that he will make someone a very loyal and loving companion. We are just so concerned for his safety should he get out Thank you also for your trust and kind comments - they are appreciated. We are feeling very bad about this

Thank you also for your trust and kind comments - they are appreciated. No need for thanks Donna, we firmly believe in telling it as it is - that way no-one can be in any doubt as to where we stand, & there's certainly no reason for you to apologise - you weren't to know that Moss would turn out to be quite such a Houdini, & it ain't your fault that your neighbour is such a thoroughly evil b*st*rd!

This lad is such a beauty. He had his post op checkup this morning and behaved like a dream at the vets. He met a very small and very fluffy yorkshire terrier and greeted it very politely. He did however show a bit more interest in the hamster in a basket But to cap it all, on the way home, Sasha decided she wanted the whole of the back seat to herself and Moss, the lovable lummox, promptly lay down in the footwell behind the drivers seat What a sweetie?

I have just modified my post from yesterday. The wall that Moss jumped up on is only just over 6'. Sadly it doesn't change our ability (or more specifically lack of) to keep him safe As Barney has said, if it weren't for such an intolerant 'neighbour' Moss wouldn't be going anywhere

Moss today, with Sasha & erstwhile foster Dad Mark:
Sasha & Annie just can't understand why any self-respecting Lurcher would feel the need to go anywhere else....................
.................when he has two super foster parents & also this Lurcher paradise right outside the back door!
I'm sure he'll soon see the error of his ways now that he's in Harlow again, (where he was welcomed back very enthusiastically by Erin & Winnie ).

What an awful shame - it must have been so hard for you letting Moss go back with Barney from this beautiful lurcher paradise..... Neighbours.............. Some can give you so much grief........ Viviane. X

Thank you Viviane. It was hard and I've got to admit there were a few tears after Barney left Moss was the most genteel and endearing house guest. Sadly our unpleasant neighbour is a farmer who has no qualms about using a shot gun to enforce his 'rights' to protect his livestock from dogs All in all it would have been a pretty rotten day in our household if it hadn't had been for Barney's compassion and Annie's wonderful lurcher lean which I needed quite badly. Here are the last photos I took of the Marvellous Mister Moss I think I quite like here Yep, I could definitely get quite used to this ;D Sorry, looks like I've got to go Who ever takes on this boy is going to have the most amazing dog.

Thinking of you and lovely Moss, knowing there will be a forever home for him where he will be very much loved........... Viviane. X

Moss enjoying yesterday's weather:
& attached to his 30' reinforced line - a precaution just in case any deer happen to wander past the garden fence.
The lad received his second jab this morning & was none too happy about it, although he was immediately back to his normal waggy self. In fact Anil remarked on what a strong & active tail he has.
Since his initial vax regime is complete, & there are no stitches to worry about, the time looms when he'll be ready for his first off-lead run - watch this space! ;D

I bet he can't wait to run off some of that energy, bless him Well, he certainly ran off a bit of energy this morning, when he experienced his first off lead run. I hasten to add that this was not the introduction that was planned for his first off-lead session.
The houndmobile was loaded with everything needed for our attendance at the Greyhound Walks show, & I was about to put the dogs in. I had the leads on the two Greys, intending to put them in the vehicle first. The two Lurcher girls & Moss were 'safely' behind the high stairgate in the hall. I opened the front door, & Moss shot out past Erin, Murphy & me & headed off up the cul-de-sac at a rate of knots.
I quickly put the Greys in the houndmobile, & set off in search of a certain Lurcher who appears to have been born under a wandering star.
He hadn't gone far, but was racing up & down the grass verge by the road at the top of the cul-de-sac in search of the various cats that inhabit the local area. I called him on several occasions, & each time he came back to within not-quite-catching distance before shooting off again. I eventually managed to corner him in a neighbour's garden & get the slip lead on him that I always carry in case I encounter a stray.
No real harm done, except that I was an hour later in reaching the Greyhound Walks show venue than I'd intended.
On arrival at the showground, Aran from the neighbouring jewellery stand offered to look after him for a while. 'A while' turned out to be the whole day, during which time Moss & Aran seemed to appreciate each other's company - I certainly appreciated having one less hound to think about throughout the show.
Moss apparently behaved very well - he certainly seemed to be doing so each time I bumped into him during the day.
A huge thank you for looking after the lad Aran, I'm really grateful.

Well, that was your excitement for the day, Barney.......... ;D Moss must had realised he had been a naughty boy and later tried to make up for it, bless him. Sounds you had a good day at the show, Barney. Viviane. X

Norty, norty, norty Moss - fancy doing that to your Uncle Barney laughing hysterically Well might you laugh Donna - the little bugger angel made a real Saluki-style game of it, repeatedly coming back to me, but not getting close enough to be nabbed before darting off again! Aran plainly wouldn't need a great deal of persuading - there may just be an adoption application on its way.....................

'Twas indeed a splendid day Viviane, & little Moss made a big contribution towards publicising SLR & what we do for hounds in need - he was a very popular chap.

I am not the only one that has escapees then Barney at least Mischa and Belle were no problem to catch when they were on the lose when they broke out of my house that day they must have been looking for me and both come running over. Thats Moss with his Sulkies traits obviously giving you the run around. ;D ;D

Hello, I'm Kelly ... Aran's other half. Aran was completely smitten with Moss yesterday. I'm so pleased because I've been trying to persuade him to get another greyhound or a lurcher for ages and he just kept looking at Dobermans and German Shepards. I never thought I'd see the day he'd fall for a lurcher (Well done SLR for changing his mind!).
We have indeed put in an adoption application for Moss and hope to hear back soon if we are suitable or not for him (fingers crossed). He was a star at the show yesterday, no bother at all and seemed to enjoy playing with Aran's mum's Saluki cross Sasha. The pair of them look like twins!
What made it for me was when Moss curled with our greyhound Lucy on her pillow. It wasn't really big enough for both of them, but they seemed to make it work.
What a lovely dog that Moss is. ;D
