Hi all, after reading this forum I thought I'd have to let you all know how Gem is getting on in her new home. She's such a loving happy little girl we're just so lucky she likes us!
Little Gem lived up to her name on the long drive back to the seaside yesterday....sleeping most of the way :-) She was so brave and seems to be settling in very well, she's already claimed a sofa and loves playing in the garden. We took her to the beach this morning and although she decided the sea was a bit cold for a paddle she loved playing with her kong in the sand.
I did try to add some pics but I'm a dunce and can't work out how to!!
I'd like to say a HUGE thank you for all time, love, kisses and hard work you put in to finding new homes for your charges. Gem is truly a wonderful little girl and we hope she's going to be as happy in her new home as we are to have her.

Thanks folks for all your kind comments. Yes, Jean, we do miss the fosters when they go to homes, and I thought Gem would be a real wrench as John tends to walk Jack and Honey and I tend to walk the foster dog and you get quite attached to them. With Gem, we've had a couple of "near misses" and the people have been lovely and would have given a lot of loving, but Gem had been a "bit strong" on the lead - thanks for the halti tip, Jen, as that did the trick. The first time she was on the halti, she saw next door's cat Blackie on top of a brick pillar and tried to launch herself, but that soon taught her a lesson. Gem has come a long way - not liking clay pigeon shooting in September (thank you Fred and Angie for your support at the lure coursing in September). This was cured by playing with her kong to take her mind off loud noises, but now she just accepts bird scarers. She has some funny little ways, which could irritate some people, but we just used to see the funny side, i.e. if you have ever seen the film "Tremors" and you see her disappearing under a quilt, she just cracks me up. Her way of looking at you as if to say, "come on, when are you going to throw my kong" and you say to her "are you ready?" and she does a little sidestep dance. When John is surfing SLR and she'll either fish her kong out of the basket and drop it at his feet or she'll give a single impatient bark as if to say "get a move on DADI". The funniest thing was her chasing her kong in the park in all that deep snow and she would come up with her nose covered in snow! We've got a lot of happy memories, as indeed with all our fosters. They all have a place in our heart, some more than others, i.e. Logan, Slim, Dodger, Spot, Honcho/Shaun. Little Daisy was very quiet and unassuming. When we give nicknames, i.e. Gem = Germ or Germolene, or Little Gem - our little lettuce. Shadow we nicknamed Fidget for obvious reasons - you know when they have settled! We reminisce a lot, and we trawled through our past photos of Gem on Sunday and those of other foster dogs. When you see the before and after photos and the dog is found a lovely new home and you get to meet the new owners that makes it all worthwhile. We cannot offer sand and sea in East Herts, so lucky Gem and lucky Logan. When we met Honcho/Shaun's new parents, we thought "what a lucky dog, I wonder if they'll adopt us two as well!" When we meet the people adopting and you see the dog bonding with them and that they are able to continue developing the dog, it makes it all worth while, and when we get photos of the dog enjoying being with their new family, then we know it has all been worthwhile (such as Logan with the footie night stretched over the 3 men!). Good luck, Gem. You have a lovely new Mum and also Auntie Reva who are so good to you. You have landed on all four paws and that is what you deserve and you couldn't have found a better home. Thanks, Kay and Reva for the pics to date. Viv xx PS - Keith - our two are stretching out a little bit longer now on the settee! (seeing as it was our foster dog Logan that broke all your house rules ;D)
