The dreaded meeting has occurred- Dad and Luka! We just happened to mention the morning he left that we were having another little 'friend' to stay ;D I think he's just used to the waifs and strays coming in and out He was greeted by a happy Luka and I think I can say he's a big fan but definitely pretending not to be, I did see a little secret smile though. Today I was giving him a little fuss after he settled and he let out a small growl, this happened twice. This was my fault for not being respectful but perhaps young children not best for him?

I can see he will be one of those dogs who will be here today and gone tomorrow, or will he ?

when I was hugging him and fussing him as he was sleeping he let out a small growl, this happened twice. 'Tis not a good idea to do this with any dog Hannah, even one like Luka known to have a lovely nature!

Barney xThe origin of the expression "Let sleeping dogs lie" I think he looks as much collie as saluki. That might make him a clever saluki

I'm normally very careful I can say and did forget myself, just to reiterate this was MY fault, not his and needless to say will not happen again I know I'd be the same when sleeping! The origin of the expression "Let sleeping dogs lie" I think he looks as much collie as saluki. That might make him a clever saluki We certainly think that too- he has collie markings and has shown great obedience and a propensity for learning very quickly, traits I'd say are collie-ish (certainly not typical saluki traits anyway ;D ) Any bets on recall? Once out I wouldn't put it past him to go saluki and 'innocently' go completely 'deaf' and go on an adventure of his own ;D We know of an enclosed field where we plan to test him so wait for updates

I've had two Rough Haired Collies and it certainly looks like Luka might have quite a bit in him. The RHCs have several things in common with the Salukis (which probably accounts for why I like both breeds so much) : They're both very gentle, they both like to lean, they both have wicked humour and they're both masters of selective deafness ;D ;D ;D

Hannah, Aoife does this too, I have small children, and they have been told from the start, if they're asleep leave them. I think a lot of dogs with baggage will do this, it's a defense thing I think. They're most vunerable when asleep.
Dont worry about it, at least it's something you can forewarn any potential adopters about. Or just let him come here!!!! xxxx

We've had another lovely day with princely Luka and he is still sweet and perfect as ever in house. However from him settling a bit we have noticed a few things. He had a rawhide bone today and as a test we tried to get him to drop it and he wouldn't, snapped his head back to avoid it so he'll need to be taught now to drop/give things which we'll try. When he had the bone he also growled twice at Tipton when he came into the room so perhaps is a lttle possessive, again which we will start correcting if it happens again. On walks he is really friendly with other dogs and desperate to play, but he whines and cries if they are nearby and he's not interacting with them. He'll pull to get to other dogs and when he sees them whether close or nearby he'll start crying and yodelling and pulls hard. This happens throughout the walk; but he's young and does have a lot of energy and we'll start working on redirecting this behaviour. We thought that he would be better once he can go off lead and burn more energy, but he's easily distracted and I think with other dogs around tempting him his recall needs to be rock solid before he's let off lead.

He is a beauty. As soon as I saw his thread I mentioned him to a couple of our friends, one already has a rescue Saluki and the other has a rescue Saluki and a rescue Galgo. You could have a couple more applications flying in for him ! Sure he'll find a home very soon.
