Yes Monty is doing very well thank you , although I think he is learning the art of lurcher sleeps from Sadie, for a 3 or 4 year old he is really quite calm at home. He leaps about a bit when he meets other big dogs on the lead, I think he probably feels threatened being on the lead. I took him back to Graham yesterday and he was pleased with the neutering heeling well. Click to enlarge

So lovely to see him relaxed. A completely different dog than from that first pic. Well done Carol and Sadie.

I am not sure he needs that much training as looks like a natural!

Looks as though he is pretty well trained in the art of being a lurcher! π€£

I'm trying to crack the meeting and greeting on lead, after 2 or 3 loony sumersaults when approaching big "scary" looking dogs. Last night we walked along the side of the harbour in the dark and passed a few joggers and dogs of various sizes. I had him on a short lead and said "leave" very firmly as we were passsing, so trying to be consistent with that. I took Monty solo this afternoon to the park training area and had him on about 4 o4 5 metres of lead and did a few recalls. He did come back to me better than I could have hoped but "wait" at some distance from me and "sit" do not seem to feature in his repertoire yet. I'm not sure I've ever seen him "sit" so it's probably a Greyhound thing. My dog walking friend came by and she had 5 or 6 large dogs with her all off lead so I grabbed my chance and took Monty out of the enclosure to greet them all and he did really well, much calmer than I would have thought seeing as he was still on lead amidst loads of big dogs all off the lead so it feels like progress---of sorts.

I usually find lead reactive dogs are much lees so if given a longer lead and allowed to go over and meet at their own pace. May not work for all of them, but I've found that tightening the lead only makes them worse. If you can make use of your friend and her pack to engineer plenty of "pack meets" with dogs that you know are friendly it should help him get used to it and relax.
