It appears madam doesn't like tinned sardines in her food - Poppy refused a meal with those added, and when I threw that away and gave her just a sachet of food, she ate the lot! Not interested in the few bits of kibble we add. The kennels she came from did say she was fussy! This season malarkey is a real pain in the bum though. In normal circumstances we'd have left her the run of downstairs with Alfie & Lizzie for company, whereas she's having to be crated when I walk them and later go to work due to the weeing indoors. I've researched and it seems that 'losing house training' is part of being in season so things should revert to normal in due course. It's strange but when she's been in the crate and I've been in the kitchen, she's been fine, not a peep from her, but when I've crated her with toys and a kong with some treats and gone out, she's fine to start although when we return there are signs that at some point she becomes unhappy with her confinement. We've not met many people/dogs due to the brevity of our walks and the weather, but we did meet a lovely couple yesterday with their two rescue girls. Poppy was very keen to say hello and was a good girl (as expected). She has a little stubborn streak sometimes where she doesn't want to walk or go in the garden, and takes a bit of encouragement to get going again. Nothing much else to report except Poppy remains a poppet. And here's a couple more pictures of her cuteness.

Little Pops is looking like she's lost a bit of weight, so I've tried a couple of things today. She had another sachet of Country Hunter late morning, and we tried her with Forthglade chicken with tripe for tea. She loved the Forthglade, so had seconds, and would probably had thirds but didn't want her to be sick.
We went back to basics with the crate and I put in an item of my recently worn clothing so she had something with my smell on. Seemed to be a bit better today.
We also extended Poppy's walks to half an hour, which gave us the chance to go somewhere new. I think she really enjoyed that. She met the lovely Murphy, a 15.5 y/o collie and prompt stuck her nose up his bum, lol. She gets quite excited to see other people and wants to say hello. Such a sociable little girl.

Just catching up here Loz, just a thought, Maisie was a bit picky about sardines but now I give them to her mixed with coconut oil and she loves them? Worth a try?

Just catching up here Loz, just a thought, Maisie was a bit picky about sardines but now I give them to her mixed with coconut oil and she loves them? Worth a try? Oh thanks Brenda. I'm not too worried, just trying to supplement her Country Hunter/Forth glade as our two (and Greta) love(d) their pilchards. She may grow to like the taste, as she cocked a snoot to a fish jerky on her first try, but now tucks in just lovely. It's worth knowing what she likes... And what she really, really likes is natural treats. Fish skins, puffed jerky, my home made dehydrated treats of turkey, heart, mince turkey/beef/pork buttons. She seems really interested in Alfie & Lizzie's raw food at dinner and food prep time, so I reckon she'd do well on that. But of course, I can't switch her to that in case prospective adopters don't want to go that route.

Little Pops is still doing really well, although she's practically throwing herself at Alfie this morning and he's getting interested/frustrated so we'll continue to separate them when not supervised. Poppy's wound area is either still tender, or maybe the nerves are ultra sensitive as she sometimes yelps when it's touched. She's easily distracted by a cuddle though. Alfie gets quite upset when she cries out, and he's very protective of her. When we pick her up to carry her downstairs, he fusses about us until she's safely on the floor again. We met a couple of the regulars yesterday, Bella (teeny pug) and Ruby (shitzu) and Pops was very friendly with them. When we see dogs in the distance, her ears go up and she's very excited, but I think that's the season more than anything. She also wants to say hello to every human we meet! I think we've pretty much mastered the 'down' command and mostly Pops keeps her paw on the floor now. She's enjoying her two walks every day, and we're gradually increasing the distance. No opportunity for photo's yesterday as I was doing a big chilli cook up for most of the afternoon, in between dog stuff.

Eeerm... sorry, no new photos. The afternoon was spent comatose in the toxic room (a.k.a. the conservatory).
Poppy met a couple of ladies this morning who she wanted to greet, luckily they were willing to stop and say hello. One would have liked to take her home.
And, we've found something she's not keen on... The hoover.

The flirtations continue, and we can't wait for this stage of Poppy's season to finish! But that aside... Poppy really is just as able bodied as a four legged dog, so if you're looking for a lovely little dog to adopt, please don't think she'll be limited in what she can do. The only thing currently she's unable to do is going downstairs and I'm sure that will come with more strength and a bit of reassurance. She likes to have a play with her lamby and a zoom around with him in her mouth. She's been a bit restricted outside as we're keeping her on lead because it's so slippery ( the grass seems to be getting thinner every day). After she's been outside, Andrew lets her off at the door and she comes barging through the conservatory with our two and skids around the corner into the dining room. Very funny to watch as she's half their size but just as quick.
