Thank you Emma and family for taking such good care of Zia. She is a sweet girl. Zia was a model passenger on the journey back to Berkshire. And other than a bit of counter surfing has been a good house guest so far.....very early days though! Zia really wanted to play when we went out in the garden and the settling in has been eased by Harpo being his usual sweet self and having a bit of a chase around with her, something he rarely does with younger dogs. I did not have my phone with me and shall try and take some footage if they do it again. With all the excitement and change Zia is now stretched out on a big cushion bed. I'll update again once we have got through our first night. My first postimage upload. Harpo and Zia and my laptop!

Well done Sarah and Harpo for taking care of Zia and special thanks to Emma for helping her on her journey. It must have been sad to see her go, but she'll have a great time with her new foster family.

Well we survived night one. Between the fireworks and crying it was not the quietest of nights. Just as well I have dog loving compassionate neighbours on the semi-detached side. I plan to start crate training Zia today, something I did with Harpo when he was younger although we no longer use the crate in the house, mainly because he got so much bigger and I have a two room downstairs and not much space! I left Zia downstairs with Harpo overnight. He seems to be politely tolerating her. I am having to feed them separately - if there was a queue for food Zia would be at the front and Harpo at the back, with Zia circling back round for more and probably pushing in front of him! A quick photo of them relaxing on the sofa after another chase around the garden (sorry I was in my PJs and no phone again) and breakfast.
I thought I had resized this......shall try again next time!

Not the best of nights for a new change. I can also sympathise on the food front. Sasha here still has to eat hers separately as she almost inhales her food and then would be straight into anyone's bowl that was available. x

I took Zia and Harpo to the woods this morning. It has lovely wide open long paths which aided managing Zia's anxiety over the two dogs we met on the way. I let Zia off lead in a secure paddock at the Dog Trouble Centre on the way back. I have some footage of Zia chasing Harpo which I shall post as soon as I figure out how to do so! The hounds are both now snoozing, photo below. Zia on raised bed in foreground and Harpo on the window seat - hopefully the sizing is better this time?!

The paddock at Dog Trouble is going to be ideal for you to work on Zia’s recall and for her to have a good run. It sounds like she’s settling in well.

Really enjoying all of her updates and the children like seeing the photos of her too. Sounds like she has had a lovely first day with you. Hope she sleeps better tonight. Hopefully she will take comfort with Harpo xx

Well Zia has found her springs. I shut Zia and Harpo in the kitchen using the dog gate while I went up stairs and to stop the youngster following me - Gemma taught her to climb stairs and the door to the hallway does not shut properly. I did the same this morning with no drama. Harpo is far too polite (lazy?) to jump the gate, about 2.5 feet high. There was a bit of Saluki whining, then silence followed by a cream coloured head appearing around the top of the staircase. At which point the greyhound whining started as Harpo thought he was being left out. I'll have to shut the kitchen door as well next time.

She does not jump, she hurdles! I had a demonstration this morning. The hound who takes his sweet time eating was in the kitchen with his breakfast. Zia was behind the gate in the living area. She put her long front legs on the top of the gate and pushed off with her back legs and was in the kitchen before I could blink! Impressive technique. I know better for next time.

Zia relaxing after lunch.....you can just see Harpo's head poking out of his bed at the end of the kitchen. I am still struggling with sizing.....hopefully sort it out for the next photo.

She looks like she’s settling in well despite all the recent upheaval. Harpo will soon come to accept the new girl in the house and I’m sure they’ll become good friends. Well done so far Sarah. Sounds like you’re getting there!

I can just imagine her hurdling that gate! The children joked that she sounded like a pony coming up the staircase! I'm sure she only touched every 4th step!!! Sounds like you're doing a fab job Sarah ☺️

Zia enjoyed her visit to the vets today. The staff told her how beautiful she is and there were treats! Zia was as good as gold being examined (conclusion: relatively good condition but a little under weight) and not a murmur when the initial vaccinations were administered. And we met some lovely children on the way back.....Zia's tail has an extra wagginess for children! Zia continues to be a sweetheart. Zia is now sleeping off all the excitement in one of the beds in the kitchen. I keep reminding Harpo he is already crate trained but it has not stopped him taking up residence!
