Nettie is getting more and more perky every day. She seems to be getting stronger and isn't scratching so much. I've been spraying her with Neem Spray which helps relieve the itching and her appetite is definitely improving.

I've ordered some CSJ Resist with echinacea and will see how this goes. I'm a fan of Dogs Naturally Magazine (I'm taking their DNM University Dog Food Nutrition Course), so I'll check out the Quercetin supplement as well.

We've got 'Resist' too...originally for Greta for her tummy issues, but latterly have been giving to Lizzie as it can't do any harm. Anything to support her immune system can only help. Apparently the Quercetin with bromelain is more effective than Quercetin with vitamin C. Not too expensive either.

Fostering dogs brings both happy times and tears when you have to say goodbye. What makes the sadness worth it is moments like I experienced today with Nettie.
She's a sweet girl with lots of health problems that we're gradually dealing with, but she's clearly uncomfortable, if not in pain with the large tumours on her mammary glands, her ears are badly infected and they must hurt her because she scratches them a lot, and she also scratches herself a lot generally so I think her skin and coat must be sensitive. I'm giving her supplements which are definitely helping, but when she's in the house she walks around like she's uncomfortable and looks old and frail. She has a cough and the vet said not to exercise her too much as this would help. The coughing has eased a lot so I decided to take her to the secure field this morning with Comet. It was great! She was so happy to be off the lead and free to mooch around. She wandered around a bit and then suddenly took off. She ran and ran as though she was a young girl again. It was the most wonderful moment ... I cried with joy to see her being a real dog for the first time since she came to me.
I'm sure Romi will be surprised to see the transformation from when she picked up this broken girl and helped transport her to me. Here she is chasing Comet. You can see the huge tumours she has on her mammary glands, and the dark stain on her back end is from where she'd been licking the sores caused by flea bites. Thanks to the bath I gave her the fleas are gone now and her coat looks like it's getting lighter. I'm taking her to the groomer tomorrow - after we've had another trip to the secure field - and hoping to get the results of the biopsy in the next few days. Hopefully we'll be able to get them removed soon.

That was wonderful to see Christine. She's going to feel so much better once those tumors are gone and her skin/ears improve. How can her previous owners have allowed her to suffer like that? Makes me mad to think about it. Xxx

Christine I just watched the vt of Nettie and Comet? What a sweetheart and plenty of life left in the older girl. Seeing the interaction I think Nettie and Harpo might get on. Hopefully all goes well with Joan as I might need to consider a bigger car otherwise! xxx PS - another lovely update and positive healing and test result vibes continuing to be transmitted...

Wow, she looks like a different dog already, bless her. Thank you so much Christine for taking such good care of her, and fingers crossed that she can lose those annoying tumours soon, and carry on on her road to recovery.

Makes me mad to think about it. Xxx It makes me angry too. She's been really badly neglected to get into this state, and then when she got so poorly she was just discarded. But she's going to be OK from now on!

What an absolutely heart warming video of Nettie really enjoying herself and acting like a well and happy dog again. It really makes me so mad that people get dogs and then neglect them or worse and I am truly thankful that Nettie found her way to SLR. Hoping and praying for a good result from the biopsy and that those uncomfortable and debilitating tumours can be safely removed soon and Nettie can enjoy many years of love and comfort in her forever home.

Thank you for your updates Christine, and taking such good care of Nettie. It really is heartbreaking that her owners neglected her so badly - bless her. But being there with you, her life is starting to change for the better. Thank you again x

I took Nettie to the groomer today to help with her itchy skin. I wanted to get her clean and freshened up before she goes in for surgery. The groomer did a great job - she stripped her coat across her back so that it wasn't all over the place and she now looks much more like a Lurcher, and so pretty. She was really good and they fell in love with her and wanted her to stay! I got a call from the vet to say the result of the biopsy on her mammary gland tumour wasn't conclusive but that there was no sign of aggressive activity so they won't be able to tell if there's cancer there until they've removed the tumours and can send samples off for testing. I've agreed that Nettie should go in for the surgery to remove the tumours tomorrow and they will also clean up her ears and start treatment to relieve the itching that is really distressing her. She has really nasty infections in both ears and is scratching and shaking her head a lot. It will be an anxious day waiting to hear how the surgery goes and hopefully she'll come home tomorrow evening with the tumours removed and her ears in a better state. Then it will be a case of getting her back to health as soon as possible. Here she is at the Groomers looking really cute with her lovely white coat looking much tidier - even the brown staining is gradually fading!

What a gorgeous girl - she is just one of those dogs that everyone falls in love with. All good vibes for her op tomorrow and praying for good results. It will be a terribly difficult day for you waiting and worrying. I hope that you can be busy just to make the time pass more quickly. Best of luck, Nettie
