Well, there's bad news and good from the biopsy results. She had 2 tumours removed; one large one and one small one and both were carcinoma but the good news is that neither of them had spread, and most importantly the large one, near her lymph glands, had not spread to the lymphs, which is more good news. So the carcinoma were localised and the removal has been successful. She will need to be checked every 3 months or so to make sure there are no more lumps developing but although we never like to hear the word cancer, in this case it could have been far worse.
She's looking so much better ... no more scratching, no more head shaking because of her ears, and the surgery wounds are healing really nicely. The stitches will be coming out on Monday ready for her trip to meet up with Joan and Toni on Tuesday. We're all very excited, and just to show how well Nettie is here are some videos of her at the secure field earlier this week. These are for you, Joan!
The first one is Nettie looking for Comet who is in the car. She wants to run and play with him, but his back is stiff and I don't want him running until he's feeling better. As you can see, Nettie loves to run when she's off the lead, but she also wants to be close to me.
The second one is her giving up on Comet and coming back to be with me.
The final one is her enjoying sniffing and checking things out, but also showing how quickly she's learned what "let's go" means!

Wow she looks like a different dog! Keeping fingers crossed the vets got all the tumour and that's the end of it. She looks so happy now.

As you say hun it could have been so much worse. Hopefully there will be no more tumours, and at least she is feeling better as regards her ears and skin. Can't wait to see pics of the meet up on Tuesday.

Relieved. Not as good as if they had been benign but it sounds like they are confident that they got good margins round the tumours so its the next best thing. Hopefully she will go on to lead a long and happy life. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Relieved to hear that there has been no spread and that hopefully now she will go on to enjoy many years of good health and happiness in her new home with checks to make sure that all is well. She certainly looks the picture of a happy healthy dog after all your special care and attention and I am sure that Joan will be over the moon when she finally lands there! All my very best wishes go with her

She's doing great. Stitches out tomorrow, Monday, and we're meeting Joan on Tuesday for her stay-over. I've started to feel weepy about saying goodbye to her, possibly for the last time. She's such a sweet little girl. Her character has really come out in the last few days and she's become such a bouncy and happy little thing.

Nettie wasn't able to have the stitches out after all today. The large tumour that was removed was stitched inside and on the outside with one long thread which the vet wasn't happy to remove just yet as it was only 10 days since the surgery and she wanted to wait another few days. We're still going ahead with Nettie's stay-over with Joan starting tomorrow and if it works out then we're hoping this will turn into an adoption. Thank you for all your good wishes. This little girl has had a major impact on me. She's had such a poor quality of life so far and it's my mission to make the rest of her life the best it can possibly be. There's been lots of dogs coming through my door but Nettie is the most calm, placid, easy-going dog I've ever had. Those tumours mean she is going to need ongoing health care and I'm so grateful to SLR for agreeing to sponsor her for the rest of her life. Please keep fingers crossed for her tomorrow and for it working out with Joan so that they have a loving life together. Here she is happily sleeping, oblivious of how her life is about to change.
