Sadly, Marvin, one of Flossie's pups is up for re-homing. In the right home he will excel but his present Adopter has a lot of upheavel going on at the moment with a sick mother and Marvin is a dog of routine.
Whilst Marvin was lying next to one of her sons on the floor, her other son "stepped" over them. This made Marvin suddenly jolt to his side and he caught her other son Shaw in the face with his tooth. Whether he was in a semi-state of relaxing, whether the other son thudded over, or whether he felt threatened, no-one knows, but it has unnerved his Adopter.
This is what she has to say about him. She has been totally honest, because she wants him to go to just the right home.

So a bit about Marvin - sorry, this is way too long I know. I think he’s quite a complicated character although I think a lot of this is probably typical saluki behaviour.
He is quite aloof, but loves having his bottom rubbed, will sometimes put his head on our laps, likes to be in the same room as us. He doesn’t really like being left, I was worried that he was developing separation anxiety and have worked hard on this, he can be left for up to about four hours but I wouldn’t say he enjoys it. He greets us very enthusiastically when we come in but after a couple of minutes goes back to bed.
He is generally calm and well behaved in the house, it’s been a while since he’s chewed anything and whilst I couldn’t leave him in the kitchen with a steak he’s not a terrible counter surfer. Barks when the doorbell rings but not very interested in the visitor and goes back to bed when we’ve opened the door. He sleeps in his own bed on our bedroom floor at night. We don’t let him on the sofa but he goes on them when we’re out, and the bed if we’ve left the door open.
He is usually good on the lead, doesn’t pull except occasionally when he sees a cat but will stop pulling then if I tell him ’no’. He knows basic commands, sit, stay, down, paw, and will perform them well with a piece of food in front of him, he’s not so interested if there’s no food involved.
He is generally a bit nervous when we’re out and about. He occasionally barks at people in the street, men in high viz and old ladies with shopping trolleys in particular. I did make a huge effort with socialisation and I’m not sure why this is. But until the incident with Shaw he has always been really good with children, he has looked quite happy to let children stroke him in the street and has a fan club at the school gate, but I would be more concerned about that now. He is really excellent travelling in the car and is happy to go on buses and trains. And really well behaved in a pub!
He is very keen to chase small furries, though has never caught anything (except a friend’s chicken which we got from him before any damage done). His recall is generally good but he won’t recall from a squirrel. He responds better to a ‘stay’ and being collected than actual recall but we have never once had a problem getting hold of him. Marvin absolutely loves chasing a ball, unusual for a lurcher I think, but really handy to get him to run in central London and also can use the ball for recall and as distraction from other dogs (but won’t distract him from squirrels).
He is fine with other dogs that he knows and with small dogs. He is nervous when he meets another medium to large dog, particularly if more than one dog. sometimes he has snapped at them in a 'showing them who’s boss' sort of way. There has just been one incident, immediately after we returned from holiday with Marvin last summer. A spaniel came up to him in the park and wouldn’t leave him alone even after a warning snap, and eventually he attacked the dog, but didn’t do any damage, no bite marks etc though the spaniel was very frightened. He can be a bit over-exuberant once he has established that another dog is willing to play and will sometimes mouth their necks to encourage them to run in what I think is a typical lurcher fashion. He will normally stop when I tell him to but I might have to tell him a couple of times.
Sorry again this is so long! I am going to send you some photos by separate email. I will measure him too. He’s pretty big, definitely quite a bit bigger than Flossie. I think he weighed 25kilos when he had his vaccinations a couple of months ago. The vet said he’s in excellent condition, I was worried he’s a bit too skinny but she thought fine for a teenage boy.

Having read her write-up a couple of times and knowing the saluki type he is typical for a young male of this age. Saluki's like familiarity and do take a while to get to know other dogs. They don't like other dogs to come straight into their faces. But taking on board her reservations about noise and change, we are looking for perhaps a retired household where there are not a lot of comings and going. I feel sure he will settle into a routine and feel confident once he is gradually introduced to new surroundings and establishes a rapport with another dog or two. So perhaps a household with another dog around for him to get confidence from.
Please please do not apply if you work, as he will need someone around most of the time.
Here are some photos from his Adopter Angela.
