Well Lurcher Lovers, it is time to tell you about Bruce's new life in our Lurcher Rest Home! Some of you may remember us - we used to live in Essex and adopted the beautiful Caspar (who so sadly died of cancer in 2012); the resilient little man Captain Kirk and then the Duracell 'runt' of the Christmas 2013 puppy intake, Rudi, who all joined our first 2 Lurchers, the 'old man' Taz and our dizzy black blonde Beauty! We moved to 3.5 acres in Lincolnshire (yes, because of the dogs) and somehow adopted 2 'midi' Dachshunds (sold as mini's, but far too big now!), so Joey and Rosie joined the Rest Home, which includes my 95 (nearly 96) year old Mother. What you probably don't know is that in August 2015 we upped and went to Crete and not only do we have warmth of weather, we have the warmth of the people of Crete, who are just so friendly. We are given eggs, fruit, vegetables, rabbits, oil, Raki (we give that away! It is 100% proof) and even though we don't know much Greek yet, we get by with body language and hand signals! We had been visiting Crete for 12 years, so we are not strangers, but you don't learn a language during a 2 week holiday each year. Anyway, I returned to the UK for a couple of weeks and received the e-mail about Bruce - I was immediately smitten and felt that fate had brought us to each other - we have more than enough love to share with 7 dogs and the room - we have 3000 square meters of land here and dog beds a'plenty - Bruce will be so welcome - soppy, playful, loving (sounds like me) and a very welcome playmate for the Duracell Rudi! Bruce will be flying over to us on 23rd October and I will take as many photos as I can of his arrival and his integration into our Lurcher Rest Home. The temperature here is still 25 degrees during the day, and between 16 and 20 degrees at 6.30 am in the morning, so I hope that Bruce will enjoy the benefits of warmth on his joints. I am told that even on Christmas day it is often warm enough to sit on the beach, so lots of outdoor living even during the winter. We have a lovely lady Vet, who runs a practice with her brother who is also a qualified Vet, and the only problem we face at the practice is the fact that the Vet has a cat! But at least we know! Our Vet in the UK had never been asked to prepare 6 Pet Passports so everything has been an adventure. The hounds have settled in really well; they are happy, lively and healthy and we can give them even more time, away from the pace in the UK. Love to you all, and especially Janine and Jenny. We will love Bruce for life, and who knows, perhaps fate may intervene again at a later date ................................ there are always Lurchers looking for that forever home! Margey, John, Taz, Beauty, Kirk, Rudi, Joey and Rosie

Such a heart felt post has me welling up. Bruce is so special and more than worthy of the life you can give him. If it weren't for his size I''d have had him here. He was such a gent when he met our little ginger fruit loop.
All credit to you and thank you for giving this boy the home he is over due for and Janine you have been an absolute star again.

When I read your post Margey my screen went so blurry I almost couldn't read to the end. As you say Fate seems to have played the hugest part in bringing you and Bruce together. It sounds as though the move to Crete has been such a positive move for you all and what an absolutely lovely life for Bruce. I am so pleased for you all and looking forward to seeing lots of photos of Bruce's arrival and settling-in The mega-ist thanks to Janine for giving Bruce the perfect foster home in which to regain his paws and build up his confidence for his new life

Another screen went very blurry here but was soon followed by a big smile after reading your heartfelt post, Margey, and I too believe that fate was certainly very much involved for Bruce as it meant for him you were here at the right time. And as it turns out he has not only the best forever home he could wish for, but also lots of brothers and sisters to play with in a huge garden that can only be called a Lurcher Paradise! AND on top of everything else he will be able to enjoy that lovely sunshine throughout the year.... sounds like a dream come true for Bruce!! Thank you so much for giving Bruce his forever home, Margey. Bruce will be so grateful and we will very much look forward to piccies and updates of this very lucky boy!

(I am sorry my life has gone belly up amd caused chaos)xx Yeah right - coz we all plan for things like that to happen! Stop apologising hun - you have been the most amazing fosterer over the last few years, and we are all vibing like mad for things to turn out right for you. Barney - I'm sure Bruce could not have found a better place to stop over on his way to his new life. Margey - what can I say?

Dear Janine, you will get through this unplanned part of your life and forge a new one - we are all rooting for that to be with hounds again Your fosters will never forget you and the fantastic start you gave them in their new lives and with the future of Bruce unfolding, you will be able to keep in touch, perhaps even Skype and talk to him, if you want of course - I do understand how emotional contact with an absent loved one can be. Thank you SLR folk for all your best wishes. We are ready here and waiting and I think Rudi sort of knows that a playmate is coming ............. That will give little Rosie a welcome break as he usually picks on her to play with. If anyone visits Crete in the future, let us know as a visit will be welcomed. We live in East Crete and it is a bit of a trek from West Crete if that is where you holiday, however I would recommend that you try East Crete as much less 'touristy' (says me, as a long time 'tourist'!) Thank you so much Barney for the update - I continue to hear only good things about this special boy. Margey xxxxx

Hugs Janine. As Ro says, you have been an amazing fosterer. Now you need to look after yourself and get your life back on track. Take care. Xx Barney, it looks as though Bruce has settled well with you before his big adventure starts. What a lucky boy he is.

Another blurry screen here catching up with this thread. Bruce will have a wonderful life and I look forward to many photos of him with his new family, especially soaking up the sunshine on his achy bones. Thank you everyone for helping this boy on his journey to his forever sofa. I think he has touched so many peoples hearts on here.
