Lovely dog but aren't all lurchers I have a 8 year old version of him asleep on the couch beside me. He was rescued from Newquay at the end of the surfing season, and the vet book shows him as Deerhound x Whippet, I envy anyone who adopts him if his temperament is similar to mine, but they will have to work kindly but firmly with him initially and he will be a joy.

Thanks, I hope I can help in someway, but I cannot at the moment adopt or foster a dog and am commited to a local rescue centre.

Sadly, his potential adopters have had a family tragedy and cannot continue at this time. They don't want him to miss out on a home. Such a shame.

Can we have some more info on him?

He's a nutty puppy the size of a small pony who loves everyone and all dogs. Pulls on the lead and counter surfs before you know it. A lovable rogue. Not for the novice lurcher owner. Needs space, other lurchers to run with and a large garden. Recall in progress. Eats for England. Plays and plays. Likes to chase the foster ponies so has been told off. Is learning

Thanks Jenny, I have a brilliant picture of him in my mind - an ideal youngster for a fun-loving, consistent home!

This is a shame, I was hoping that the lack of posts meant that he had found a home. 26 inches is hardly a small pony and as I have said before if he is like my dog, kindly with firm control will turn Scamp into a joy, he is young and has more energy than sense, a bit of work will reap years of benefit I see lazy owners with lurchers that won't let them off the lead, if you are not willing to put the work in you should not adopt or even foster a lurcher, but the end result is good if you do.

I'm pretty sure Jenny was having a bit of banter. As the founder and admin of SLR she's allowed a bit of licence!

I always banter with Kate! Scamp literally thinks he's a pony and runs with them if he gets the opportunity. There is no way that I am going to say that he is a calm well mannered easy going dog when he is a work in progress. That way they don't bounce and the fact that they are not horrendously badly behaved comes as a nice shock to adopters! Am I bantering?

Well I still think he sounds fabulous, unfortunately I am ACTUALLY looking for a small pony at the moment rather than another lurcher, as he sounds like a wonderful, fun companion (but 26" isn't tall enough for my girls to ride!)Please someone special snap him up fast or I might have to reconsider!!

Come on folks, snap him up, I would if I not working, forget the banter and enjoy years of companionship.

I totally would (and would RUN to get the gate fixed etc) if only he was cat-friendly! Wolfhound and near me? I'd be beating the door down >.< However, I'm sending the link to a friend who MAY... *fingers crossed*

Hi from Scamps foster mum Just to let you know i have a strong feeling that scamp has poodle in his DNA. You can tell by his gait and his soft curly coat on underbelly and legs As i have had wolfhounds and lurchers for 35 years i think its safe to say i cant see much wolfie in him!!! He is a complete nutter and should be called tigger as he can bounce on his back legs ( he thinks his name is NO ) All he wants is security and lots of love and is my shadow. Recall is ongoing, i said recall is ongoing!! Happy days
