Daisy was in a home but due to her guarding nature with treats she bit a member of the family and was given up to Rescue SLR have now taken her on board and she will be neutered very shortly. Daisy is around 25 inches to the shoulder, housetrained and fostered currently with another Lurcher bitch in Essex. Daisy will be assessed and, currently, we are not looking to rehome her with very young children, and she will probably be better rehomed as an only dog. Daisy does have a prey drive, chase drive, so this will need to be worked on. She loves people, is good on Lurcher walks with other Lurchers, but once in the home she prefers to just have her foster Lurcher with her. So she does not like to have new dogs in the home. More to follow from her foster mum Becka shortly. And with foster sister Ruby

Hi everyone! So sad to have to put Daisy on here, but unfortunately, despite being told that she was cat friendly, she's most definitely NOT! So it's simply not possible for me to keep her.
What can I say about Daisy? ... She's been with me for 3 weeks now, ever since a friend of a friend of a friend (you get the drift) asked me to pick her up for them, and I'm in love!
The family who originally had her were going to have her PTS, after she bit someone whilst defending her bone. But I can take anything off her, so I really think that in the right home she will be fine.
Thankfully, a very lovely lady stepped in to get her out of that situation & put a plea out on Facebook, looking for a new home for her. My friend then asked me to collect her & take her to Wales, as there was a family over there that wanted her. But sadly, despite a week of repeated introductions, Daisy simply wouldn't accept the resident pack in Wales (She was FINE with them, outside, but indoors she soon resorted to guarding anything & everything around her) & so she managed to firmly attach herself to me & Ruby. ... And the rest is history.
She's 100% clean in the house. (And can wait a lot longer than Ruby!)
She sleeps through the night without a murmer. She very much WANTS to be on my bed (which is where she slept when we were in Wales), but all dogs sleep downstairs in my house (coming up for an hours cuddle in the morning) & she has adapted to this just fine.
She's a bit 'boingy' when walking, but is doing better now that I have a GenCon headcollar for her.
She is nervous of cars. (Getting into them, I mean.) But once she trusts you, she will follow you anywhere! So it's not an issue for me anymore, but be warned that it may rear it's head again for a little while when she moves on.
She goes offlead & has pretty good recall. - For a Lurcher. ... And she sticks pretty close to Ruby, so I've been able to let her have lots of offlead time.
She LOOOOVES water! And mud. And swampy places. The muckier the better. ... But she HATES the rain & was a quivering wreck when I bathed her.
She's slowly learning about toys, but much prefers to find her own. (Tissue boxes, coasters, pine cones, all are toys in her mind.)
She's small dog friendly. But occasionally takes a dislike to random dogs when she's onlead. In those cases, it's been anything from a Min. Schnauzer to a Black Lab, so size obviously isn't the deciding factor.
She happily eats almost anything (lettuce was the one exception), but is very wary of anybody that offers her food by hand, especially when out of the house. (The original owner admitted to me that her kids had been 'a bit over the top with her', so I'm guessing she's been teased. )
Basically she's a big, snuggly baby, who relies on Ruby for security & has decided I'm 'mum'. And if she was even remotely cat friendly then she would be staying with me & Ruby forever!
So what does Daisy need???
To be an only dog, or with one calm, submissive companion. (She adores my Ruby!)
A household that's not too hectic (she still gets overwhelmed quite easily) & with someone around for a fair bit of the time. (She can be left, but this has always been with another dog, so if she ends up being an only dog then being left could become an issue.)
No cats or small children! ... She should be ok with one, or maybe two, older / dog savvy children. But she has definitely been taunted in the past, so people would need to remember that.
A human she can call her own, who has time for lots of cuddles & long walks with plenty of offlead time. But one who can also be firm & stick to boundaries, cos if you give her an inch she soon tries for the yard.
She would probably also benefit from some socialisation and/or training.
That's about it really. ... She will make the most WONDERFUL companion for someone, I can promise you that!

what a cutie but with one madame in the house already the boys would pack bags and go. I am sure she will soon be on her forever sofa, well done on her description.

Boo came up with Daisy and Ruby this afternoon. We had a walk around the field next to the house. Mims, Sofi, Megan and Ruby off lead and Daisy on the extending lead. She was a little rushy at first, but soon got used to the others flying around and her on lead. Watching her body language, her problem seems to be that she is under-socialized and doesn't know how to play, but when Ruby wants to play she needs to make sure that Ruby is in her grasp and doing what Daisy wants to. There is no malice there, just uncertainty. Daisy came into the house with most of the Symmons pack behind the gates doors, but with just a few huffs, which stopped when she was told she sniffed and greeted politely. Sofi had a bad introduction and so voiced her opinion and said you are not going to tell me what to do. Daisy soon backed down. No problem with Mims and Megan at all, but then Mims doesn't do eye contact. Daisy soon settled and even wagged her tail at both Annie and Honey. She is remarkably like Annie. But Annie is a nightmare on lead outside and Daisy is very good. I saw no signs of her twisting and barking. She was fine once she knew who her walkies partners were. Daisy would be better rehomed as an only dog, but I also think that she would be fine rehomed with a non-reactive dog, that didn't rise to her trying to dominate, or a dog that is already settled and will tell her off if she does start to dominate herself.
I have seen a lot of dominant behaviour in dogs, and Daisy's is more down to her fear of being dominated herself, so is getting in first.
She settled so much so that she got herself cosy on the desk sofa and had a nap and then in the dog bed in the office.
I don't think she is going to be a handful, just needs some guidance and time to settle. Gentle but fair and firm training and lots of praise for accepting other dogs.
Boo's Ruby is doing a great job with her. Ruby reminds me of Mims, not getting embroiled into anything. xx

Hello All,
So sorry for the lack of updates!!! I just recently started a new job (my first paid work since 2006!) & have been up to my eyeballs.
Daisy is doing GREAT!
I switched her diet around a little bit, so she now gets regular helpings of scrambled eggs with her breakfast & a mixture of Burns & Nature Diet for dinner. And when I last weighed her, on the 13th, she was up to 18.8kg. That's an increase of 1.3kg already.
She's now neutered & has had her first vax. Second one is booked for tomorrow, so I'll weigh her again then & keep you all posted.
So what else have I learnt about Daisy in the last few weeks?
- She loooooves to dig! ... My poor little garden (which is not quite 25' long x 9' wide) now has THIRTEEN large holes in it! And as fast as we fill them in, she digs them up again, so I've given up & leave her to it.
- She gets more & more lead reactive when she's stressed. She's definitely better with sighthounds than other breeds, but will even snap at the hounds once her stress levels are up. It's definitely fear based though & only happens when she's on lead. (Labradors seem to be her particular fear, for some unknown reason.)
- If someone she doesn't know tries to do something with her (take something away, move her off the sofa etc.) & she snaps, she then goes back to snapping at the people she trusts as well. ... It's easy enough to deal with though. I just stand my ground & eyeball her until she withdraws, then make her do whatever it was she was asked to do & praise her heavily when she does it. ... She doesn't seem to hold grudges at least
- Once she trusts you she will eventually come looking for affection. (Which always makes my heart soar!) But it's only for very short periods of time & then she moves away again. ... And once she does love & trust someone, she never forgets them! I have one friend in particular (& her lurcher, called Sam) that Daisy goes beserk whenever she sees her.
- She ALWAYS sleeps upside down.
- If you give her something tasty for one meal, she'll most likely refuse plain kibble at the next meal, cheeky madam, lol. But a spoonful of something smelly, or a drizzle of olive oil usually convinces her to reconsider.
- If, whilst camping, you don't respond to her early morning barks quickly enough, she is perfectly capable of unzipping the tent & letting herself out for a wee. (Surprisingly enough though, she came straight back! Unlike Ruby & Bonnie, who had followed her lead. )
I have to say, we've done SO much in the last few weeks &, apart from getting a tad stressed with all the dogs at the Paws In The Park show, she's taken it all in her stride & been an absolute star!
She's been to the Greyhound Walks AGM, which meant being in a village hall with multiple other hounds. ....... And the only thing she growled at all day was a wall.
She's done a Meet & Greet at the Chelmsford Pets at Home, which she seemed to thoroughly enjoy.
She joined me & Ruby on a 5 mile sponsored walk, in memory of all the hounds we've lost.
She camped for the weekend at the Paws In The Park show. (She LOVED the camping & lying around in the sun behind the stall! It was just walking through the crowds she found scary.)
And this weekend she fluttered her eyelashes at a whole HEAP of people at the Greyhound Extravaganza in Newmarket.
I have pictures. And videos too! ... Will upload them for you this evening.

great update. You're doing a great job of socialising her and helping her get her anxieties under control. She'll be a much happier dog and will benefit enormously. Well done!

Thanks folks! I'm just about keeping my head above water right now, but we're managing. More photos and updates really are necessary to get her a home. Thanks Becca. I know. Sorry MC! Am catching up slowly.
Will ring you tomorrow, cos at least one of the families interested at the Greyhound Extravaganza seemed really promising.
