Ooops missed this Brindles are beautiful & yes I have a bit of a thing for them Commet is just gorgeous I don't understand this colour thing It's the whole dog that counts & Annette has done a great job with this boy - he's perfect

Comet has just made me laugh, again. I decided my back needed a few kinks ironed out and had a lie-down on the carpet in the living-room and closed my eyes . Comet was outside, I heard him come in, approach me and stop. As I opened my eyes there was Comet towering over me with a look of deep concern on his face . On seeing I was alive he jumped out of his skin, landing a good six feet away only to jump back and just about land on me! By then I was helpless with laughter at his antics. He is not just a comic though. Our early morning walk was mostly spent trying to help a couple whose dog did not want to be caught. I agreed to let my lot loose to see if they could tire the dog enough to make her more cooperative which did not take long. In between trying to round her up, they all came back when called including Comet. She eventually came and walked by me making it easy to put a hand on her collar much to the relief of the lady whose husband had had to leave us to go to work. I was quite proud of them all but particularly of Comet as he remained calm and focused enough to still pay me attention in very distracting circumstances. I would not expect him to stick around if a rabbit appeared when he is off lead though. His prey drive has developed over the last few weeks. He is still not interested in cats, but rabbits are a different proposition. He does not yell or jump around but his whole body stiffens and he becomes totally focused on the rabbit. He is still obedient and goes back to normal quite quickly but he would not hang around if he was allowed to chase. I am hoping he is also learning to keep himself safe. Twice in the last week he has knocked one of his hind legs against something solid while having zoomies and has cried long and loud about it. Today, the usual zoomies were much more controlled. Hopefully he will now remember hard objects hurt when hit at speed and save me the worry of wondering if this time he has really done himself significant damage. We are off tomorrow to Wales with all the dogs. We should have some pics when we get back on sunday.

I'm always lurking but I finally had to come on to say that I think this boy is a STUNNER and thought so from the first picture I saw of him! And one of those reasons was BECAUSE of that gorgeous, gorgeous dark mahogany brindle colour (plus those adorable white socks) I must have mentioned to my family about a dozen times how lovely I think this boy is and was even looking around at the fun day going 'oooo I wonder if COMET is going to be here??' I thought he'd get snapped up straight away, truly someone doesn't know what they're missing. Hopefully there'll soon be a queue of people for him (and if I was allowed I'd barge them all out the way and get to the front!)Good luck gorgeous boy.

You are absolutely right, Hannahliz. He is truly stunning, more beautiful by the day as he gets fitter, and a total joy to have around, full of fun but not mischief. What is not to love? I am sorry we did not make the FunDay but we have been very busy here first with holidays, then now reorganising the house to be able to gut the kitchen. The dogs are wondering whether all this sorting and packing means we are off somewhere again!
I have photos waiting to be processed, I will update Comet's thread properly asap I promise.

I am taking advantage of Neil being away to take some of our rubbish to the tip to do a proper update to Comet's thread. We all went to Wales last week-end to stay with my son' s family. My grandson is 18 months old now and neither he nor the resident lurcher (found in the mountains by my son a few years ago covered in mange) had any problems with being invaded by three more lurchers and a terrier. Comet was his usual chilled self about the travelling, the sightseeing and a now very mobile toddler, but we never took our eyes off the two of them of course. An illicit off lead run in the Roman amphitheatre at Caerleon. We only found out dogs were not supposed to be off lead when coming out. Oops! Racing around a kind neighbouring farmer's field. He had just taken the hay away and had no stock in it so was happy to allow us to use it. The deerhound cross is Eli, my son's lurcher. Peace after a busy day: Comet seems to be extremely adaptable and secure nowadays. As long as he is well exercised every day, has the company of other dogs to play and snuggle with, and can enjoy a few cuddles with his humans, he is relaxed and happy. He is just waiting for his very own sofa now.

That looks fun. Especially the outrageous rule-breaking. Shameful! The rules. Not you. Weather was very kind too. I'll add that Comet was very relaxed and at ease at the recent SLR Romsey street collection. We were stood in the market, which was busy and sometimes noisy. The only doggy excitement around Comet was from Joey, who was over-pleased to see his old sparing partner.

Very calm too. His first pub meal-for-humans didn't phase him one bit.

Comet is having a busy week-end. Yesterday we took the gang to the dog field at Hamble Country Park where they met a few dogs who were unfortunately too slow to keep up with them, and for some ball throwing to use up a bit more of Comet's energy. He has learnt very quickly the civilised way to give up balls and tug toys and really enjoys any training. In case anybody wonders what happened to the training classes I started with him, I stopped going when we went on holiday and I have not taken him again as there are new trainers there whose ideas of safety are not mine. He does get regular 'in house' training though. Hamble country park: This morning we went to Farley Mount country park (thanks for the idea, Heather!) where we were able to let the dogs run in one of the meadows which was free of stock. The boys were muzzled to make sure no rabbits or deer could be harmed if they had been lurking in the bushes. I was particularly pleased with Comet's recall which is turning out to be at least as good as Dylan's and Sophie's. He did not go far either and kept an eye on us to make sure we did not stray away from him! Click on pic. for recall in action:

Sorry about the lack of updates. We are having a new kitchen fitted. Last week was spent gutting the (very) old one out after reorganising the house and this week will see the new one put in if all goes according to plan. The dogs have been wonderfully patient with the comings and goings, the restrictions on their movements and the occasionally appalling noise. Comet is totally laid-back about it all, I should probably try and imitate him! There is no need to try and fit into Ollie's 'day' bed on the landing, Comet. The sofas are still available!

Hehe, always makes me laugh when large dogs try to squish themselves into tiny beds.
