I had the pleasure of meeting Shadow on saturday at the Welwyn Fete he was there with Viv and John. He is lovely and has stolen my heart ! I can't stop thinking about him.
I have a whippet/Collie cross already called Fern - she is very nervous and has been very badly mistreated in her past. On the Day I went to speak to Jenny and Barney to see if they had any whippets - they suggested a confident male dog to be with fern to help her confidence. We went for a walk and when i came back there was shadow ! A perfect partner for her !
i'm quite keen to give him a home but have a dilema - my wife is not so keen
we have a 1 year old son and are expecting another one due in November, my wife is concerned this is not the right time to get another dog.
Shadow is such a sweet well behaved dog and is so small he would be so easy to cope with !
anyway i'm working on the wife and hope to see Shadow again with fern when she is a little less frightened
speak soon !
Mike.

Oh dear, you have a big job on your hands there persuading a pregnant mum that two dogs would be a good idea. I'm not surprised he stole your heart, he has stolen all our hearts. He has raised quite a bit of interest and if he can be found to be cat friendly I have a lovely lady who rings me quite often at the mo just to make sure he is still around ;D

We don't have cats ourselves so I can ask around, but the last time no one was willing to risk their cat with Logan. On the other hand, I wouldn't like to risk Shadow with Minky or Blacky. He goes to the vets this morning at 10 to have his stitches checked and then we can work on his recall from a distance.

That was the other thing John - we need to test him off-lead. Have you got some tasty sausage there? Good luck. No pressure - BUT DON'T LOSE HIM!!!!!!!!!!

He goes to the vets this morning at 10 to have his stitches checked and then we can work on his recall from a distance. The vet was happy with his progress but asked if we could keep him quiet and on lead for about another week to prevent anything like hernias developing. I can't remember this advice being given previously, but it may be standard and I've forgotten. Either way, recall from a distance will, on medical advice, have to wait, I'm afraid, but we'll continue working with him in the garden.

Sorry Karen. I think we can safely say that this little lad is in Happy Endings. He went to his new home on Saturday for a trial weekend, and a very happy family phoned on Sunday morning to say that he was just perfec... Be happy little Shadow. And as you are all so near, we hope to see you on many SLR walks in the future. ;D

We haven't taken the "official" handover picture, because I wasn't supplied with the necessary Burns goody bag - after all, the weekend might have been a disaster, but this is his new family, near Stevenage. (The conservatory was being erected at the time ) and his new playmate (Shadow is on the left)

Hi All I'm Shadows new dad and we LOVE him to bits. he is such a lovely dog we can't believe how somebody could have wanted to have him put down !!!!!!! he has been so good i can't begin to tell you all the things he has been up to. His first night he slept in the kitchin and was no bother at all - he spends most of his day playing with fern (another rescue dog) and cuddling up with me somewhere in the house him and fern are getting on like a house on fire - he is good entertainment for her and vice versa. Fern is quite a nervous bitch and she has a few issues mostly when we are out of the house. Yesterday we went for another walk and he was off the lead for the first time. he was as good as gold and kept close and came everytime i called him. Fern appears to be taking note of his confidence and she seemed to have a good time with her new companion (last time I took her here for a walk she got scared and ran off !) i probably have 100 photo's of the two of them now ! i will post some up later when i have had a chance to download them I'd like to say a big THANK YOU to John and Viv for fostering him and a MASSIVE THANK YOU to Jenny and everybody involved in SLR you are doing a grand job speak soon Mike
