But what on earth were you doing up at silly o'clock Trying to hold down 2 jobs whilst I work out my notice on 1 of them - having to get up that early to keep up with typing my reports Forgot to mention that I didn't bother separating them yesterday when I left, and they were all as good as gold together Chris got a lovely greeting from the munchkin as well when he came home from work Will endeavour to get some more photos of Victor today, especially as he has a posh new coat courtesy of a lovely lady who lives in Warsash (wonder who that could be ).

Sorry not posted any more photos yet, been so busy. But I will get the camera out over the weekend and get some more photos of Victor. There really is nothing much else to add about him, he has settled in so well Him and Millie still don't see eye to eye - they don't have a go at each other but they don't like being close to each other either. Millie whined and whined this morning all because Victor had got into the bed next to hers - he didn't have much option as Ginny had nicked his!! He wouldn't have got into the bed by her if he had a choice Victor has definately been a top dog at sometime, he has that "way" about him. He sits lovely for a treat and surprised us when he also put his paw up as well and he has done this a couple more occasions without being asked! We get a lovely greeting every time we come in, waggy tail but does have a tendancy to have a little jump up. As his eyesight has deteriorated with age - he has a way of "peering" at you which is really endearing. He eats well and loves his treats. He is always eager for his walks. Really enjoys going down to the bunny fields and mooching around the bunny holes (still keeping him on lead though) and giving the horses the evil eye . His favourite place at home is on a quilt in the corner of the office near the radiator, I forget he is there sometimes!. He has settled into our routine so well. He has to be the most easiest first foster (famous last words!)

Just to say that Victor is not crawling child friendly - lots of growls. He also is not mother-in-law friendly either - lots of growls, but is great with father and sister-in-laws

Victor (Scruffy, Munchkin, little lad) continues to do well. We took him to the vet on Saturday as we were having a bit of head rubbing, so wanted to get his teeth checked. The vet has put Victor on 10 days worth of Antirobe anti-biotics - for gingivitis and I am using Enzymatic toothpaste on him once a day. Hopefully the combination of the above will solve any dental problems he may be having and delay having Victor sedated for dental work. The vet confirmed that Victor had a grade 4 heart murmur, however he has no fluid around the lungs which is common with a heart murmur of this grade. He has cataracts. He still has the bald patch on his back which will take some time to cover over in hair, he has had a second bath and his coat is really lovely Victor maybe an older dog, but he is still a bit of lad at heart. He still has bounce in him, we get the most loveliest greetings from him when we come in. The most we have left him is for 3 hours, he is fine being left in the same room as the girls - what he makes of Ginny and Millie trashing the office I don't know - unless he encourages them!! He does growl at the girls when he is curled up in bed and they disturb him., but there is no real aggression behind the growls - just a warning! He loves his sleep but equally loves his walks, giving sweet little jumps in excitement when we get his lead out! We have become very fond of him but we are trying not to get too attached! Here are a few photos of the little lad:

Victor has been having these strange "breathing episodes" it is hard to describe and although I got video of him doing it I am unable to transfer from the camcorder to the computer for some reason. I will have a go at explaining it: Victor sounds like he is trying to clear something from his nose, his whole chest expands and as the vet described it, it is like a inverted sneeze, sometimes at the end of the episode he will give a snort. He does have a runny nose at times but no mucus or blood. These episodes do not have any rhyme or reason to them i.e. after exercise and sometimes they last 30 seconds and sometimes they can last several minutes. The vet says there is no fluid around the lungs which would cause any coughing (something we have to look out for with a heart murmur) and he only ever gives a slight cough after he has had a stretch. The diagnosis from the vet is 1: allergy 2: foreign body 3: tumour. We are treating for an allergy first so steriods. If no improvement in 2 weeks, we need to discuss putting him under sedation or light anethestic to do an x-ray and maybe a nasal flush. This is obviously a great risk due to Victors age and heart murmur. Victor has settled in very well. He is quite feisty though - he had a go at a labrador yesterday!! He still growls at the girls whenever he is cuddled up in bed and they come too near - however he has started doing it when he is having cuddles with me or Chris and the girls come up to us. He gets a strong "No" and I even hoisted him off the sofa yesterday as he continued! He got up on the bed a couple of nights ago and when Chris went to remove him - he got growled at, so Victor has definately got his paws under the table and making his presence known!! However Victor is a real sweetheart, the vets/receptionists/staff at P@H have all fallen for him and he gets lots of treats - which he loves! He continues to love his walks and enjoy his food and then enjoys a quiet sleep afterwards.

Ow, little Victor is gorgeous and sounds like a really lovely gentlman. I've just read your description of his breathing thingy and it sounds very similar to what my Sunny used to do. It was not a very regular thing, just now and then he would kind of sound like a he was trying to clear something maybe in his throat and his ribcage would really expand with the effort of doing it. Sometimes he just did it once or twice, other times it would go on for a bit but didn't seem to faze him at all. I explained it all to my vet and he said that was exactly what he was doing, just clearing his throat or nose and nothing to worry about. I hope that's the case with Victor bless him. Poor little chap could do without an op with his heart murmur. Sincerely wishing him well.

Zac and Emmy both do that snorting breath in with their ribcage really heaving. It only lasts a few seconds though it always feels like longer. There appears to be no particular pattern or reason to trigger it and the vets have said not to worry about it, lots of dogs do it. Try not to worry too much Rachel. See you soon, ear ruffles for the hounds!
