Logan had a lovely time on the lurcher walk yesterday. He is such a lovely dog. His recall is fantastic Viv. Here is the lovely Logan with his good friend Winnie who is also one of our hounds looking for her forever home.

I read the LL thread for Lovely Logan, and out of idle curiosity, had a bit of a potter round t'interweb. Found these... interesting. The artwork is from a study of gundogs, listed as an English Pointer. "Almond-shaped eyes"... this is an English Pointer bitch What would you have guessed this was, on first sight of the photograph? It's an English Pointer puppy. And according to Wikipedia, this is a Greyhound/English Pointer cross

After 36 hours with Uncle Keith and Auntie Brenda, Logan is back home.
And miracle of miracles, Auntie Brenda is prepared to look after him next weekend (and Logan, too)!

It's deceiving isn't it Jules. He is really VERY pointery. We can't see any bull in him. But with the camera angle differently he can look bull. You really have to meet him in real life. I would call him STUPID, SOPPY AND SLOBBERY

Sorry, I haven't posted anything about Logan recently but it's been a manic two weeks. We went up to see my mother in the Lake District on the day before Mother's Day - thanks Keith and Brenda for having him Friday night to Sunday morning - and then had a long weekend last week - thanks Keith and Brenda for having him Wednesday night to Monday evening. ;D He really is a lovely boy and was pleased to be back with us, even though he must wonder what's goung on. Anyway, that is the last time he leaves us before June unless the right home for him comes up before then. Here are a few more photos of him playing in the garden with or without Honey.

We have now had Logan for 7 weeks and I think we can start to assess him.
He is no longer the fear aggressive, underweight dog that arrived. He was measured as 26" tall to the shoulder and weighed about 25kg. We measured him the other day and, either he's grown or he is holding himself better because he's now 27" tall. He was also weighed at the vets and because he moved the scales varied between 32.2 and 32.6 kg. But he isn't overweight - he is lean, fast (compared with ours), has plenty of stamina and looks the complete athlete. He stands very proud with an erect head and walks very neatly.
We haven't done too much training. He sits on command (although he will often just sit to take the weight off his legs) and has moderate recall. Off lead he has stayed within calling distance and not gone "out of bounds" so far, despite the temptations. We don't make the dogs lie down (we haven't mastered the technique ourselves yet - we put the treat on the ground near the sitting dog, but the backside goes up as far as the nose goes down, like a seesaw).
He countersurfed once, but a sharp "No" has meant he hasn't tried since. He does go in bins for sweet wrappers when our backs are turned. He doesn't hang around the kitchen (too much) when we are preparing food. He sometimes follows the others to the table when we're eating, but apart from putting on "I'm a hungry orphan" type eyes, he doesn't push in for titbits.
He is still a very hungry boy and is on 5 cups of dried food a day - about 500 g - when the label suggests he should be on 400 grams, but we think he might still be growing. He used to virtually snatch the food out of your hand but will now wait until the bowl is on the ground (and a further half second on command) before eating. He often finishes before the other two have started - Jack can be picky and Honey doesn't like to start hers unless Jack is eating too.
As far as character is concerned he is halfway between being an annoying teenager and a responsible adult. He is bigger, faster and younger than the resident dog and has bowled him over in play a number of times. There have been no injuries because Jack knows when he has to step down and Logan knows that he doesn't have to do more. Thankfully they are both well socialised.
Logan can still be a bit bouncy towards other dogs when on the lead - usually starting with a play bow but sometimes barking. He haven't quite cured his habit of jumping up at people when he meets them - instead of doing it to everyone, it's now two or three times a week instead of 2 or 3 times a walk.
He can be good when left, but sometimes likes to shred any newspapers that are lying around, even in the paper rack. I think this might be boredom rather than anxiety. I think he would like someone at home all day, but could be left alone - with toys or in a crate(?) - for an afternoon's shopping trip.
Logan would be good as an only dog, or with company. He is not guaranteed cat safe, because he's never been in a room with a free one. At the vets today there were two cats in baskets; our two were giving them the eye, Logan couldn't be bothered.
As he's a biggish dog, with a tendency to get up and look you in the eye, he could live with older/larger children; I would put the difference between causing and not causing accidental damage by pushing over as about 10 years old, although a sensible 8 or 9 year old could cope.
He likes chasing balls and brings them back - nearly to feet, but not quite, whereas our other two lose interest as soon as the ball stops. He likes to run around with the ball in his mouth.
We love him. He's a gorgeous bouncy boy with bags of energy. We would recommend him to almost anyone.

Logan enjoyed his trip to the seaside on Saturday, but unfortunately picked up a little tear on his side. All stapled up on Sunday and although he had to keep a bucket on his head on Monday and part of Tuesday, he's now leaving the staples alone. If they haven't come out by next Wdnesday, we'll take him along to the vets to have them popped out.
Apart from being bored because we don't want to let him off lead in case he pops them open again, Logan is as fine and playful as ever.
Our younger daughter was home last week and asked us if we'd keep him for a couple of years until she's finished college as she wants him so much.
We said no. If the right home comes up sooner, he should go there as soon as possible.

Logan is doing well. His staples were taken out last Tuesday and there's just a little patch where the fur needs to grow back.
He went to the Letchworth GRWE meet and greet last Saturday and was universally admired. Very patient with the other hounds and children, some of whom barely came up to his head and even with one little poppet who was a bit heavy handed.
He really is gorgeous and we could easily have kept him if we'd got room in the car for a third and holiday luggage. But I think Jenny has had someone homechecked for him recently, so fingers crossed.

I think Jenny has had someone homechecked for him recently, so fingers crossed. Yup - it's taken a while to arrange, but Logan will be having visitors on Saturday, when John & Viv will impart their detailed knowledge of the lovely lad to his prospective adopters.

I hope it works out for Logan, he is such a gorgeous and regal looking chap - who wouldn't be proud to have him at the end of their lead? I do hope your daughter is not too upset to see him go but of course you will have room for another foster, another nutty lurcher to make semi sensible! I admire you so much for fostering, I know I would fail if a real gem came along.
