Dezzie has got "sit". We're working on down now. Got the idea after 2 physical shows and is now onto hand signals and voice command only. :-) This dog is scary bright!

Just got back from the vet (Uncle Walter) with Dezzie for her Vacs and to confirm that she is fit enough for spaying. This has been agreed and she'll be done on 2nd December.
Obviously we're not 100% sure she hasn't been done already but neither the vet nor I can see a scar. So, we think this is the best bet.
He was very impressed with the improvement in her mouthing behaviour. I was well chuffed!
Uncle Walter also said her wounds are healing very well. He asked loads of questions about the rescue including the website address which was nice.
She's also put on 1/2 a kilo!

"Small world" story - the building the vet is in used to be the HQ of Joe's mum's family firm (which has moved now) and it was there because the Old Forge - now next-door to the larger building, and a dog grooming parlour - was the smithy belonging to Joe's grandad and great-grandad and probably further back than that. Great grandad... Grandad... Joe... Gotta be worth a discount, come bill-settling time...

Fantastic piccies. Already talked to the vet about discount (as instructed!) and actually what I've appreciated is the amount of time he's given us when charging for "short" appointments (45 mins? - short???)

I would love to meet Dezzie when she is ready to be visited. I live nearby and we have a vet in common! I am new to this forum but have emailed SLR with my details. Dezzie and Tilly are so lucky to have been fostered in such a great home. The improvement in their physical condition made is such a short time is remarkable and by all accounts their confidence is also growing in leaps and bounds. Caroline

Great photos fo the forges! thanks fo rposting those.
Wonderful news that Dezzie is coming on so fast. She will be the perfect family dog - I'd love to have her myself but I think she needs and deserves a proper family with kids to play with
Meanwhile a friend of mine (and her rescue collie-cross from Wood Green) have moved in this month with a vet down in Dorset (and his black lab) ... Hmmm, wonder if he knows of SLR and might do cheap rates! He's just outside Lymington iirc

Hi Cath
I hope Dezzie and Tilly are continuing to thrive and not too chilly on this frosty day.
I hope to be a potential adopter at some point but Jenny thinks Dezzie may be too bouncy for my slightly nervous jack russell girl. I have completed an adoption form and await a home check.
best wishes
Caroline

Chilly? These two Tilly doesn't get out of bed for less than warm sunshine and a promise of food, cuddles or other bribery. (OK - sometimes that changes when I have to get hold of her collar and insist!) Dezzie sleeps 3 feet from the fire and/or hurls herself about to keep warm!!! We also have enough fleeces to wrap the world up in here at the moment! Dezzie is certainly bouncy! And attention seeking and demanding but SO rewarding, very cuddly and incredibly quick to learn. She might push your JRT's nose out of joint.

Had a brief look at Dezzie's teeth tonight. There's a definite reduction in plaque etc so the improved diet is doing the trick.
Just looked round to see where she was and then called her. No response. Minor panic... had I inadvertently left her outside? Had Mike left the gate open when he left to get Sam from his party? A frantic look round the house and she was in my bedroom on the floor attempting to get past my scary cat. I had to walk her round the cat who had taken up sentry on the banister. She's both terrified and fascinated by her at the same time!
So, we come downstairs and I sit down and she immediately starts creeping up the stairs to look at the scary thing again. One word from me and she scuttles back down again. It's like watching a 6 year old child watch Dr Who from behind the sofa!

Wonderful pictures of the forge. I do love continuity ! Dezzie sounds lovely. My vet is rather shamelessy pro dog and I she always takes a very keen interest in my 3 and what their stories are. I think we forget how vets see so much neglect and sadness at times. They like to balance it out with good news.

Dezzie does like an open fire. but like everything she does, there are no half measures! She lies like this for a bit, gets toasty and then rolls her head off the hearth when she's nicely cooked!

Dezzie has now got "sit" and "down." She's also learnt down, straight from standing. We're working on going from down to sit now which is quite hard. She also knows get back, wait (not for very long), come down here, get off, come here, go in your bed and leave.
She loves the mental stimulation of training and loves getting her reward toy (a red tuggy) in return for her training.
She has "issues" walking on a lead, however! She's also still mouthing but we're all working on that.
I've been picking up her food whilst she has been eating to ensure there are no nasties developing there.
One of her favourite games is "search and rescue" which involves jumping on the bed, discovering Foster Dad is in it, jumping on his sensitive bits, finding the end of the duvet under which foster dad has hidden and diving under to find his face to click. Dezzie searches - I rescue (Mike that is!)

Alice used to mouth very badly when she was a pup. We tried everything and the only thing that worked with her, and very quickly, was the squirty water bottle. Sounds like Dezzie is going to be a dream for some very lucky family xx

Dezzie had visitors yesterday. Suffice to say there are still some things to sort out (Dezzie is due to be spayed tomorrow and I don't want to jinx anything but getting ahead of myself!) but the visit went extremely well.
Dezzie was herself - pushy, exciting and excitable! She much impressed with her ball skills but wasn't much keen in showing off her party tricks - everything was far too exciting!!! I was extremely pleased she showed her true colours in terms of energy and requirements.

Dezzie is home safe from her spaying. Routing op and recovery. Now to keep her quiet. Hmmm
