Wow! I haven't been on this thread for a while and he looks such a different dog to the one we saw at the SLR Fun Day. He looks so much more relaxed - I'm sure he is smiling in some of those pics. Well done - you've worked your magic on him.

Just another update on Woody. He is still doing well as ever. Not much to report generally, he is pretty much the same! But we have seen an improvement in his fear, at least towards my teen brother William. He is still skittish and runs away quite a lot. However, he can now be persuaded to stay sitting on the sofa while William comes and sits nearby and strokes him, and while he doesn't exactly enjoy it he copes with the contact. William can also stroke him when passing by, if Woody is next to one of the 'girls' and feels secure. At these times it is a male coming into his space, which he is still learning to cope with but making baby steps in. However the best thing is he will now when William is sitting on the sofa choose to come and sit on the other end, and will accept attention too. So he is much happier and braver when he can choose to come into a man's space on his own terms. We haven't really seen an improvement with his behaviour around Dad. I think this is because he is not around Woody that much due to work e.t.c., so Woody hasn't been able to build up a bond with him yet. However because Will is always around Woody from when he gets back from school, Woody has had to get used to his presence and their relationship has improved. The wonderful thing is that he his shown the capacity to improve around men already, as I've described, and it will only get better. If his new male owner spent the majority of his time at home in the same room/area as Woody, forcing him to at least be in the same vicinity as them, it would greatly speed the bonding process and you'll see results like we are. All he needs now is to find that owner and home. On the medical side of things; after a number of weeks on double strength ABs, the swelling in his toe has reduced a lot. However, it is still bleeding, with possibly more underlying problems, so with Woody's best interests on mind we've decided to amputate. We all feel this is the best option, as with the toe off he will heal much faster and be able to get back to normal and go on walks again. His operation is booked for monday; he will have an x-ray, and if all looks good the toe will be removed. If that all goes well he'll be neutered at the same time, to avoid more than one GA operation. That's it for now. Woody is still such a loving boy, he still shadows us everywhere and likes nothing more than to be talked to in a soppy voice and cuddled- he just a big baby. He's discovering a playful side, enjoying games in the garden with a tennis ball and the odd mad dash round. He makes us laugh so much, he is such a clown; he is always lying in funny positions, stretching his legs out and wriggling about. He really loves our dogs, and is absolutely brilliant with them, so friendly, submissive, but doesn't force himself upon them either. He would love a dog to play chase and games with- Fionn just won't join in! He is as beautiful as ever, always getting comments on his looks. We're still trying to put weight on him which is proving difficult, but we'll keep trying. So don't miss out on this special boy- he will be someone's ultimate heart dog! New pics to follow.

Thanks Hannah. I must point out that we could have gone down the line of more A.B's and played a waiting game and more rest for Woody, but amputating the toe will not incapacitate his movement in any way once recovered, and we think that Woody has suffered enough. It will be a high removal as it is an outer toe. The Trustees had pretty much decided this a few weeks back but we were giving the A.B's one last try.

Yep, he is gorgeous. Sadly those aren't rings on his tail, it's bald patches, probably from when he was in kennels. The hair hasn't grown back yet, but it will once he's healthier.

Really? The stripes are so uniform, like a lemur's tail. I would have never guessed from the photos that these are bald patches. Bless him.
