Well done, he's looking very happy with you, you're just what he needed and hopefully he'll soon find a permanent family, he's going to be a great companion to the folks lucky enough to get him. I'm not much of an expert but having been through the Kiya puppyhood and come out the other side - I feel from what I've heard about Alfie that he's a normal lurcher youngster and what luck that he seems to be submissive. Enjoy him

I don't think I've ever seen any hound, Lurcher or otherwise, as submissive as the lovely Alfie was during his visit to Pets at Home on Saturday - I'm sure that Winnie, Annie & Baxter were quite perplexed by his behaviour, bless him. ;D

Nuvver update from us: Today (once he woke up from his visit to Jenny & Tag et al).....we took Alfie on a visit to our friends James & Debs. This meant Alfie got to meet Lydia (their daughter) & Skye (their staffie, 7months & very cute). We all went to a nearby park/cricket field which was enclosed & deserted enough that we could let Alfie properly off-lead for the first time. Then we all went back to Debs & James' house where Alfie & Skye played in the garden until exhaustion set in. He's slept more or less nonstop since we got home several hours ago. Here's some video footage of the day: Alfie meeting Skye & LydiaAlfie & SkyeMore Alfie & SkyeAnd even more Alfie & Skye

Regarding Alfie's mystery pedigree, Nikki & I were wondering if he might be part Ridgeback. In fact the fur along his spine is in slight contrast to the rest of his fur (quite a marked contrast in certain light) although it's not a ridge. Compare Alfie in the second photo in the first post of this entire thread, to this: www.greatdogsite.com/admin/uploaded_files/1191990676rhodesian_ridgeback.jpgAny thoughts..? cheers

Clever thought. Could be some Ridge in him. How is the little
monkey angel doing

Right at this moment little angel is about right, he's curled up asleep next to me on the settee! He's slept a lot since the weekend, I think the double-whammy of a Saturday at yours & a fair bit of Sunday playing with our friend's staffie totally exhausted him

This week we've discovered that Alfie can escape from a locked cage....
We crated him Monday morning & when I came back 90 minutes later he'd escaped. Leaving aside the havoc (which I won't go into....) both of us were sure the cage had been locked securely (I locked it, Nikki checked it) so it was a fair mystery just how he managed this.
Today we repeated the experiment but this time Nikki was actually still around (hiding!) & able to monitor what he would do. Basically it's a brute force escape: he head-butts the door continually until finally a combination of the bolt sliding partially to an unlocked position & the cage itself bowing under pressure forces the bottom lock open. Presumably he must have done the same on Monday & would have repeated the process to free the top lock, however at that point today Nikki took him out because he was trying to force his head through half-unlocked door which would have been dangerous.
Important to be aware of this with Alfie as it could be dangerous for him if he managed to half-escape again & got his head jammed. Also of course, there are many reasons it might be important that he can't escape.
(Initial solution to this problem, for us anyway - padlocks. If the little monkey manages to get THOSE open I'm keeping him & putting him on Britain's Got Talent....)

Sadly, the family we were going to homecheck for Alfie couldn't wait and went out and got two lurcher puppies So, Alfie is still looking for that perfect home. Poor wee mite.

Their loss Sally. Poo is a lovely lovely hound just waiting for the right family, and it would be lovely to have another dog in the family for him to play with, as he had so much fun with our hounds last weekend.

He has a foster home Eve, he needs a permanent home. As a baby he needs someone around most of the time too.
