Lenny was rehomed straight from his own home earlier this year but sadly it hasn't worked out with the family. Lenny is a big boy, bouncy and full of energy and loves rough lurcher play.
He was just too much for his new family so they have asked us to take him in and rehome him.
Lenny has been fostered for the last 3 weeks to assess him by Rob, who coincidentally has his litter brother Link.
This is what Rob has to say about Lenny..............
Bless him, Squibble (Lenny) is a lovely, soft, loyal dog. He is very affectionate once he gets to know you although he can be a little hand shy at first. He has calmed down a lot and now enjoys regular excercise along with plenty of "quiet time" too. He was a little thin and very hungry when he first came and would eat anything he could grab faster than me, cotton bud, stone, poo, etc. He has gained a little weight and is much better, he will now leave things when told and will wait for treats and dinner when told to. He was very excitable in the house with noises and visitors and although he has got much better, he will need further work here before he's perfect. We ignore him until he's calmed down and sometimes he's good, sometimes not so good but definately getting better! Squibble (Lenny) hates cats but we have been working on this a lot (as my area is crawling with them) and he is much improved, he is still a little "pully" when he sees one but nothing like the performances we had at the beginning. He will still need work with the cats but he's 70% there. Squibble is wary but fine with dogs off lead but because of an incident in his past he gets very anxious when near other dogs on lead. Generally he will ignore them but if they bark at him, he will have a go back! He has been living with his smaller littermate brother Link and has actually grown to quite like him although he can be very dominating at times, hence why we can't keep him. He rubbs along ok with his brother and is not food or toy proud but he can get a bit jealous and does'nt allow Link to have any fun without muscling in. Link is considerably smaller and a complete wimp, I think if he was bigger, stuck up for himself a little or he was a girl these problems wouldnt happen.
He has met a few kids since he has been with us and is fine, he is not so keen on having his head touched but given a little time, he's very friendly and enjoys the attention. However he is big, strong, fast and clumsy and I would recommend close supervision with young kids.
He is not bad on the lead but needs further work here, generally he is fine but he has off days. A surprise cat will make him pull and he is very strong and determined so more cat proofing needed! However if there are no major temptations he will walk nicely at heel, wait at roads and sit outside the shop.
His recall is good when we're out and he will fetch and retrieve a ball as many times as you care to throw it. However he will run off after other dogs and other wildlife so he needs to be watched and trained further.
I have been clicker training him since he's been here and he's really got the hang of it, I would recommend continuing this training with him as he's taken to it so well.
He is thriving on the Master/Dog relationship and needs to know his place, all he really wants in life is a good master who understands him and is prepared to continue training him.
So to summerise, he is a lovely hound and someone will be very privaledged to own him. He loves a cuddle and is always very pleased to see you. He's quite a big lad who needs a firm hand and effort towards his training but he's a quick learner and could become very good with time. We really love him and will be sad to see him go, however his brother will probably be a bit relieved!
Here are some photos, he's looking better day by day. He is the BIG one!
