Thank you Gaynor. Elly has taught me an awful lot since coming into our lives. She has grit, determination, self-preservation and just lately wants to give and have love. She smiles, really smiles and in her own little world she is so content. The other dogs here all have the greatest respect for Elly. My only regret is that I haven't had her before 2007. I want to make every day that she has special. She loves her woodland walks, she loves her cuddles, and she loves her cosy bed. Elly is a character like no other. Even though she now has cataracts in both eyes, she can still see us across the field next to the house at night, and she still likes to thud across in front of us all at 30 miles per hour and stand waiting in the entranceway to our house as if to say, "well, come on then". When we walk through the woods she pretends that she loses me and then just makes her own way back home. Mim sometimes goes charging off after her and heads her off to follow us, but Elly, even at 13 is fast. If I had to choose what to do again, I would do exactly the same. Elly is a girlie of courage and love, and I love her very much. And I know that she loves me. Thank you.x xx

Just met Elly on a New Forest walk with Jenny, hubby and the girls. Lovely old girl, grumping her way along on an extendable lead to keep her safe!
Chloe, quite unaware of Elly's potential grump quota, was totally unfazed and - getting too close - had to be called away for her own good once or twice!
Pictures will follow when Jenny gets home from holiday, I'm sure.
All the best

Thank you Val. it was lovely to link up with you. Thank you for all the homechecks. shame Kate was unable to meet up. Miss Elly is enjoying her holiday. Apart from falling down the cattle grid and escaping from the awning and running round the campsite. it has rained a lot but she just loves the forest but unfortunately she has to be on the extendable lead for her own safety as she wanders off. No Mollie this week so lots more relaxing! jenny x

Elly was unphased by the rain and had a lovely holiday. She did the beach, did the hills and even did the pub. The scary moment was when she ran back to the camp site and onto the cattle grid where she was stuck. I waddled onto it and picked her up by her fleece and carried her to the other side. She had to stay on an extendable lead most of the time after that. A few piccies of what should be Elly's last holiday, but she just amazes us with her fight to be here. Milford on Sea. A lovely stroll Sharing the stand with Megan And getting their own awning bedroom after Mollie left for home A bit of a nap before dinner And again And the day that we thought we had lost her, ran all around the site getting all the neighbours and wardens to look for her and then found her in the girl's bedroom in the awning

I have been that busy that I forgot that it was Elly's gotcha day on August the 11th We have had Elly here now for two years. The dog that only had 3 months left to live. I am so pleased that they got out enough cancer to stop the spread. She has more down days than up ones lately, and every day she has me laughing with her antics. This morning she ran through a bush, clean through it instead of running round it. The expression on her face said "get out the way you stupid bush". I just had to laugh. Every day that she has been here with us has been a bonus. Every day has a heartbreak in it somewhere, when she can't get up, when she collapses at the back end whilst eating and when she just can't get up from her bed in time and poos. When she tries to eat a new foster, or visitor. Hence her nickname, Ellypoo!. And grumpyknickers! I will always remember the day that Sue and I saw her outside the holding kennels, just like a donkey tied up to a beach railing. She had switched off, and we thought she was a P.T.S. case. But Elly is a fighter, a grumpy old fighter, but she is OUR grumpy girl, and there is something about her that says "love me". She has lumps and bumps most everywhere, and her teeth are all but gone, but she loves life. I am crying as I type this, and I should be happy, but I just wish I could give her new joints, so that she can enjoy the new life that she has. I don't want the dreaded decision to come. I just want today to last forever.

Don't think of the 'dreaded decision,' Jenny, not yet............. Miss Elly is a marvellous old lady and the fun she is having with you every day surely helps her to cope with her problems. She is happy when you laugh about her, and she is laughing with you as she knows how happy you are with her, Jenny. Just consider how many happy days you have given her since you have had her. Remember, having a happy home and a happy life is the main purpose in any dog's life. Miss Elly has done very well so far, and I think she nows ......... Viviane. X
