Named Alfie by the lovely Riding School staff and children who rescued him when they found him asleep in a wheelbarrow yesterday afternoon, absolutely exhausted, and McVitie named by Jules as we had forgotten dog treats and stopped at a garage to buy him some on the way to pick him up. Lighthearted bit over - Alfie is in quite a bad way. Thank god we had a vet appointment. I have him isolated in the kitchen at the mo, after having had a Dermocaine bath to relieve his itches. The bath was full of blood as we bathed him from the many many bite wounds from fleas and also wounds from other things! He has what looks like a cigarette stub wound on his side and another wound near to it. The whole underside of his body is sore and swollen. He has bites and sores all over him. I could cry when I look at the state of him. Anil has dated him up to a year old, and someone has worked this poor animal. He is a little handshy, but loves children and has stopped jumping up at every movement. Smells a whole heap better at the mo. His tail is so sore and so bitten, not only by mites but by himself. He is on steroids, anti-biotics and dermobaths for a few days and then back to Anil for skin scrapes on Tuesday. His body is hot ans swollen and resembles a plucked chicken. And all through this, he has shown no aggression to anyone, or dog or anything. He is just a frightened puppy. His lovely lovely face which has taken the least battering But he is so sore in the rear. A very sorrow little Alfie Mcvitie in the vets waiting for some relief Sausages and complete and tlc duly administered this evening and he is having a little sleep. This is one hell of a lovely puppy.

Poor little soul its a good job the peolpe in the stables were kind enough to look after him, and better still he has ended up under SLRs wing. I sure he will get lots of TLC in the Symmons household over Easter.

What a stunning face he has & I'm sure once he has got all his medicine in him & plenty of TLC which we all know he'll get in abundance he will bounce back in a few weeks he'll be a totally different lad & you'll have your hands full even more so than normal.

He's relaxed enough to have a lie down now Jean. Michael has just taken these piccies of a cleaner Alfie Mc. I've creamed up some areas, including his little ballies.

The people at the stables found Alfie curled up asleep in a wheelbarrow, bless him - and bless them! They found him a warm stable to sleep in with his own special "Yard Tasks" notice board... Alfie McVitie's nose seems to move - and have a life - totally independent of the rest of him! He is very "pointy" and very beautiful, or will be, soon. Settling down in Jenny's kitchen One of his ears is virtually hairless - just leather, with a couple of tufts, and it's difficult to tell if his darker bits are brindle or black or brown or what because there's so much hair missing and so much zingy pink flesh showing through. But after digestive biscuits, some treats and a small bowl of dinner and a good drink, plus the treatment Anil began, he started to relax. Alfie needs lots of TLC but he's young enough to be turned around and welcome the kindness we all know he deserves.

Tears in my eyes as well....... How can people be so so cruel? That poor little puppy must have gone through hell wherever he came from, finally managed to escape from these bastards.......... full of fear.......bleeding..............hungry........ until he finally ended up in a wheelbarrow.......... totally exhausted............... It can't have happened long ago, his countless wounds are still so new and open...... my god, all that pain he had to endure.... Luckily, poor little Alfie had a guardian angel who showed some kind people where he was laying and thankfully he is now in save hands under SLR's care where he was bathed, fed and had some love - something he has probably never experienced in his puppyhood before................. From now on, little Alfie, your life is going to change forever and hopefully in a few days' time we will hear that your tail is beginning to wag and your sad eyes are beginning to sparkle.... God bless you. Viviane. X

Anil did advise leaving the bath until this morning but I couldn't not bath him. He was still itching and chewing at his parts, so we decided to bath him and then apply a little more frontline once he was dry. The steroid injection has done it's job and the inflammation around the joints has gone down an awful lot and the pink is more pink than red now. I creamed up his sores last night with Otodex for itching and after going out for a giant poo and pee he gladly went into the crate for the night. We slept til 8.13 when Tag wanted us up. Came down to a waggy Alfie Mc. He was a total poppet. He has met Elly and been in the lounge with her. She went out onto the patio and he was eager to sniff up her bum but she let him, but when he came back into the lounge she growled at him, but not one of her normal I'll kill you growls, but one that said behave. He is fine with all the others, but Tag is a little niffed and keeps standing tall up to him. He eats like there is no tomorrow and he is looking around all the time he is eating, so we are feeding him in the kitchen on his own at the mo hoping that he will calm down on the eating. I will fed him in the crate with the others eating in the kitchen and he can see how slow they go. Counter-surfer, but very well behaved. He had a cuddle on the sofa this morning, and put his head in my lap, looked up at me and sighed the biggest :'(sigh. I think he is slightly older than we first thought as he is trying to side onto the fencing for weeing, probably around 16 months, but he then squats down really low like a little pup. He is a gentleman. And the girlies seem to know that he has been through the mill. Everyone has investigated his cuts, wounds and sores, and sorrowful eyes and little tail wags were given to him, which he replied with a wag back. How cute. We have waggy tails now, so looking a lot happier. I will try to get a video later this morning. Oh, and took him out for a wee last night and he pulls to the end of the lead, a slight taught but no pulling on the lead.

It makes me sooo cross that this innocent was subjected to such cruelty, I hope those responsible have the same done to them and 100 times worse. Alfie Mc you have a lovely, safe l life to look forward to now and thanks to the stable staff who looked after you x

He is obviously happy that he has found some peace and love at last. All your hounds really good with him Jenny and are giving him the space and the time he needs. He sound just like Dolly was with her food always grabbing a bit running of then back again to her bowl, always looking over her shoulder to see if it was safe to eat. God you never know what these poor hounds have been through. They do settle as you well know my two now eat side by side are are comfortable with each other. Little Mischa Moo has hers in the create or she would eat theirs as well. He just looks so sore all over but hopefully now he is getting the right treatment and love in abundance he will soon improve.

Hi Angie, he is actually bigger than all of ours. He is about 27/28 at the shoulder. Elly has accepted him and he is now with the gang. No signs of any fleas on him today, and his coat is lovely and soft. Still itchy and he is chewing at his legs and tail a bit, but does stop when told to. The swelling has gone down on his elbows and hocks and a little on his belly. His tail has suffered a lot and is still very hot, but the antibiotics should kick in today. His nose has gone bright pink since having his bath.
He has a lovely laid back temperament and has been having a play bow with the boys.
He weighed in at nearly 22 kilos yesterday, so not too bad, about 5/6 kilos underweight for his size.
He is indeed a lovely boy and so reminds me of Dodger, and a little bit like road runner as he has such a long and pointy crooked nose. ;D
Uncle Barney has just been round to say hello to him. And I have just realised that Alfie McVitie is not hand shy now. ;D
