Bailey's time was up. He wasn't looking good and a decision needed to be made today. The dog warden rang and asked us if we could take him on as his time was up and the poor dog was not responding well to kennels. When Jules and I arrived he was buckled up and so so scared of us. We entered his pen and his immediate instinct was to run and try and hide. He didn't have any aggression in him, just pure fear. A couple of cuddles and his arched body started to unfold and his tail slipped downwards. He didn't wag and his eyes were vacant. We couldn't leave him there and knew that he needed to see a vet p.d.q. I rang Barney and an appointment was sorted. So, with no foster home he was on board and set to go to Barney after the vet. Bailey came home for an hour to my house and met the gang. He liked Milo and even wagged tails. Tag was a bit scary for him. He was on edge, but not as much as at the kennels. He has a lovely disposition, is only a baby of around 14 months and so so scared of hands above his head. He has no aggression, but just cowers. Needless to say that he has had lots of tlc chez moi and a nice dinner with white rice and some treats. He did not woof his dinner down but ate at a good pace. He is painfully thin. He weighed in at 19.2 kilos at approximately 25/26 inches at the shoulder. He had had the runs in kennels and they felt he had lost weight in the week. Anil felt that he was so de-hydrated and his stomach was very tense that a night on a drip wouldn't go amiss. Poor little fellow. We had to leave him there to attend to another waif, but he is in good hands. His face and the way he looks reminds me of Lola. He has a roman nose. He has a broken heart. But we will mend it. Some piccies of little Bailey today. First taken by Jules and then at my house.

Poor little thing, he reminds me of Lexie - the same nose and profile. Lets hope the vet sorts him out tonight and tomorrow he can look forward to a new better life Good luck Bailey

Poor Bailey, it clearly shows in his posture how frightened he is and one can only guess what he's been through............. You know, Jenny, he so much reminds me of our little Elmer when he first came under SLR's wings........... A few days at uncle Barney's will show a tremendous improvement in him. At least he's safe now. Viviane. X

Just off to pick him up. He has kept his food down and looks a lot better. He is on anti-biotics so will have to stay with Uncle Barney for a week. He is still quite scared.

I'm sure once Uncle Barney has him he will soon pick up, you all do such a wonderful job at looking after them, give loads of tlc and finding new permanent homes where they can be loved forever:-*

On his arrival here Bailey was totally unfazed by the combined efforts of the Harlow Hooligans & Ronnie to create mayhem, & it was soon evident that he possesses a really lovely nature.
Despite being handshy, he has no scars to indicate that he has been beaten, but there is every sign that he’s been seriously undernourished – he has no rear end muscle to speak of, & he’s a little unsteady on his pins: being on a decent diet will address this.
Bailey is definitely a bin raider, possibly as a result of having to scavenge for food in his earlier existence.
Winnie is of course keeping a motherly eye on Bailey, whilst he is getting on well with the whole pack, & plainly enjoying exploring & being with Annie & Ronnie.
I don't think Mummy Chook wanted to leave him here, & I can quite see why - this boy is adorable.
Barney x

Cor, he does look better in his face already! More relaxed. Looks like there's quite a statuesque dog in there, getting ready to come out. He must feel so much better for being warm, comfy and dry! Once he gets some good food inside him and some more warmth and comfort around him, he'll do well, I reckon...

I don't think he'll be around for long.. I love those 'baked bean' eyebrows. Good job I don't live nearby...I'd be around all the time!

We were hooping to send him over to Jayne in Farnborough, but he will have to stay local for at least another week or so. He is on anti-biotics and will have to have a bland diet for a few days as he stomach has contracted so much. And no I didn't want to leave him. I just wanted to cuddle him forever I don't seem to leave them in holding kennels, so can someone else go next time. We are running out of nook and crannies to house them all I think I will have to just pop in a little later just to make sure he is okay without me
