Monty could do with some of your special SLR vibes today please, I took him off lead in a training area this morning and he managed to cut his paw. I bathed it in antiseptic when I got home and it was still bleeding for a while. It settled down but then Monty wandered over to me holding it up in the air which he never does unlike Sadie who alaways waves her foot around if she is hungry but I digress. Anyway I took him to the vet and she said he has sliced the edge off his pad and probably won't be able to stitch it back on but either way he needs surgery tomorrw. He has come home with antibiotics and pain killers and is sporting a very fetching leoparskin dressing.

Oh no poor Monty. Lots of safe op vibes for tomorrow. There seem to have been several paw injuries lately. ☹️

Oh bless him, poor lad. Sending my best vibes. X
Is it an idea to contact the owners of the training area so they can check it over for glass or anything else that might harm another dog? Was it at Upton House?
You might already have thought of that. X

Loz. yes it was at UCP but the area is huge, they've taken down the middle fence now and it is all back in use, it would be worse than finding a needle in a haystack. I will mention it anyway next time I see someone over there. Thanks for all your good wishes.

Poor chap - Tigger did something similar a year ago and it was a real pain to heal. Good luck!

Nero took a big slice off the side of one of his big pads a few months ago. It was totally missing, nothing to stitch at all. I just kept it clean and made him wear a boot for a few weeks and it gradually healed inwards from the outside, the raw bit getting smaller every day if you see what I mean. It does take time for pads to heal and is pretty frustrating, but the main thing is keeping it clean and not doing zoomies on it until it is completely healed and dry again. Best wishes for Monty's surgery today. Will be thinking of you both.

Thinking of you both today. (I'm guessing Sadie won't be too bothered!)
Hugs and lots of healing vibes for Monty.

Very true Casparsdad, I brought him in now sporting a plastic bag over the top of a new dressing and she didn't even look , just came to me and then sat down again.
Poor Monty is now resting and has been told bed rest only for 3 days and check up again on Friday. Graham said it was the best paw wound he had seen! He sliced the side edge right off and down to the bone so a skin flap was left detached. Graham has stitched it up on one side and then turned Monty over to stitch the other side. He has also put some big sutures in through the middle of the flap to the main pad to try and graft the flap back on as there was still blood supply to it. He's now sleeping peacefully.
Loz, I've just emailed UCP.

Crikey, that was really nasty.
I haven't been to UCP for a while and thought it might have been the smaller training area. The area you were in is huge, so it wouldn't be easy to find, I admit. But given the severity of the wound, at least you've tried. X

There used to be a proper fenced in area, maybe they've changed it with the addition of the extra land where they used to graze the cows.

I think we are talking about the same area, on the left as you walk down towards the stream from the newer small car park?
