I opened the conservatory door this morning to let the dogs out and came face to face with a black and white cat standing on the decking. Luckily, I had Poppy on lead in one hand, holding Alfie's collar with the other with Lizzie behind us. Somehow I managed to close the door, so only Poppy saw it. Based on her keenness to chase it, I would certainly question her cat friendliness (as I believe was indicated by those looking after her before she came to SLR). Poppy certainly found her voice this morning, barking at Alfie in her frustration to get jiggy! We're on day 14 of her season we think. Thankfully, we do have some peace (quite a lot of this goes on in our house actually).

Phew! We have Ben getting cats in the garden again but fortunately Mr. R hasn’t seen them! Has anyone with cat problems tried these? www.coopersofstortford.co.uk/garden/st08584i/?src=7xj12I know it sounds/looks daft but we bought some when they had an offer and so far they do seem to be keeping the neighbours cats out, I haven't seen either of them in the front garden since we set these up. I did even see one of them about to walk up the driveway (I was in the car at the time so couldn't be seen) and then vere away and walk on by, we have one stationed at the top of the drive .

I couldn't either. Is it the tin cats that you stick in the ground?

omg scarry biscuits! Elfie chased a cat yesterday and at one point was just in reach of it. I didn't know whether to look or not so just yelled at the top of my head and ran the other way. Luckily the cat managed to get into a very large hedge and Elfie appeared at my feet looking extremely innocent a few minutes later.

One of our previous dogs went ballistic at one of those metal cats - thought it was real!

Back to Poppy... A little snap from yesterday morning's perambulations. I'm skirting the edge of the heath that wraps around the houses here before it gets busy so she doesn't just have boring pavement walks. Bless her, she loves it.

Poppy's really good at getting about on three legs, she barges Lizzie out of the way to get her turn at the 'niffs on our walks.
I'm still carrying her down the stairs. When I try to coax her down, she lies on the landing and barks at me! She's quite vocal at times, when she wants to get out of her crate in the morning, and I'm taking too long, or if she wants to play. It starts with a couple of barks, then a roogle roo rah kinda thing. A bit like a saluki speaking, but my whippet owning friend says hers do it too.
To try and get a bit of weight on her skinny frame, we're giving her lunch as well as breakfast and tea...so far so good but I think she lost some being in season and off her food a bit last week so we'll see what the scales say at the vets today.
Poppy's adopter will need to consider training classes as she definitely knows no commands at all. Also to continue the work on leaving her regularly for short periods as she wants to follow me everywhere, and then whinges when left in another room (but better popped on her crate after a walk with some treats and her toys).
I would now say no to cats and small furries after the cat we saw yesterday and she was very keen on the squilliphant we saw this morning running along the fence.

The same vet saw Poppy yesterday for her second vax and said if she had a bigger house, she'd be taking Poppy home. Poppy weighed in at 11.7kg, so just 0.2kg more than when she left the kennels. Not great, but we know that being in season has had some effect on her appetite/weight. The vet said the body craves carbs when in season, but she won't eat her kibble so to add some pasta, rice, potato and/or peas to her dinner. Andrew cooked up some pasta shells and peas and we added them to her tea last night, although she left all the peas. Mushing them up in her breakfast seemed to do the trick. So hopefully, she'll start to put on a bit of weight now. Oh yes, and I managed after much effort to get a 'sit' out of Poppy for her bedtime treat last night.
