~Any problems with photos just send them to me Fiona. And I expect his muscles are weak and he is too. Don't bother with the previous owner. If he is chipped get the number for me, and if not then get a chip in him in the Rescue name. x

Vinny was a good boy at the vet, after being initially terrified.
Really sweet boy, but very scared when out on walks, both on lead but also he can find it stressful off lead and can find the open space scary.. we are working in his confidence...
loves the company of other dogs, a few growls occasionally from others as he can be too enthusiastic, but he knows when to stop. Loves being at home and he is putting on weight and looking much more healthy.
Lovely boy.

Hello Fiona & Dave Do you remember me? My dim human lost your contact details so she's glad to have come across you here and glad you're still fostering and teaching other hounds to be loving, just like you did me. I'm pretty grown up now, love galloping out on the Downs and meeting up with other dogs, especially those who can keep up with me and have a good chase. I even return to Fran as soon as she asks, tho she tells me I sometimes pretend not to hear. I haven't actually caught a nasty cat yet but still hoping. Fran sometimes asks if I'm lonely and has shown me a few pictures of people a bit like me, though I haven't been very interested, difficult to know who I'd really get on with. Somehow Vinny looks like we'd understand each other, and he's a sort of half-brother as he's with you! Very early days though, so we agreed to just say hello and keep in touch... Freddy x

Hi Fran, at the moment Fiona and Dave are fostering, but it may well be that this one will not go another further than their house! Early days.

Hi Mimsmum
From what Fiona's said about Vinny so far I'd think he's certainly likely to be staying forever, which is lovely. But thought I'd get in touch just in case... Fran x

Thanks Freddy, however you may be thinking of someone else, this is our first foster. Little Vinny needs to be carried out of the house for his walk, as he is too nervous to go onto the street.. this morning he would not walk down the road to our lovely park, so Dave drove him (it's only round the corner). Any tips re. coaching him through to help him get over his fears would be gratefully received. It is much better when a doggy friend calls for him, I do think this little fella needs to be part of a pack or have another dog for company to lead him... The little thing just doesn't want to leave the safety of home . ... he loves home though..

But could you reverse , as in drive to park have a play and then walk a tiny tiny bit on street , even if a few metres and then head back to park x maybe alongside a friend he has played with at the park ?? And build on each day x

If you can get his doggy friends to keep calling for him it may help. Dogs learn best from other dogs, so if he hangs out with some very confident canine buddies hopefully a bit of it will rub off. You could also try tempting him with really tasty treats. He doesn't look like he's in much danger of becoming a porker just yet. Hopefully he will soon realize that the outside world can be a fun place.

Thank you, some good ideas, reverse park walk sounds good, and he is super motivated by food so it may be a trip to the butcher for something very tempting

Yep, also drive to the park and do the walk back with a doggie friend so that he sees the confidence in the other dog. I have had several dogs with me that have not wanted to leave the shelter of the office even. But they soon come round. It is more difficult if there is not another dog in the house, but visiting dogs also help x

Apologies, wrong Fiona & Dave obviously, If there's another Fiona & (I think it was) Dave who remembers Freddy I'd love to get in touch again. And to this Fiona & Dave: All the Best with building up that little chap's confidence, I'm sure he'll be out and about from under the table really quickly. Fran & Freddy

Most of us fail with the first one... notice I said "first one"! Failing doesn't mean you have to stop fostering. 😀
