Full marks to Lenny for persistence, & full marks to Alice for her patience! What Barney said. This is how Hamish eventually got Kodi to play with him. (and Kodi does not do play!)

This is wonderful to watch, thank you for sharing Christine. Sidney does the leg biting to Louie and he has even managed to get Kevin to play on the odd occasion! You are a lovely boy Lenny, I'm sure your forever sofa is not far away xx

Fascinating body language from Alice and Lenny. What a very clever boy! I'm always interested int dogs' body language. You can learn so much from watching closely how they interact. It was clear from Alice's body language when she had had enough and you could see that Lenny sensed this before she gave him a little grrrr ... fascinating!

QUICK UPDATE : So today's meeting with Lenny, and our dog Marley went well, and we decided to take the plunge and bring him home with us. After putting him in the boot, we had to put up the crate we had in the car as he managed to sneak around the seats! Marley was keen to go into the crate as well so they travelled together no problem. Stopped for a walk in the forest on the way home, and also dropped into the pub for a sneaky pint - Lenny was happy to sit and very gently took a few treats. We then made our way home, and after a quick look round the house we took them in to the garden . . . . where after an initial sniff around, Marley wanted a game, and they then proceeded to charge up and down playing chase👍 - I wish I had had my camera to record it, but as we weren't expecting it straight away I didn't have my phone with me 😕 - This did turn a little vocal and full on but we stepped in and diffused the situation before it went over the top and both responded well . . . then 10 minutes later they had another game 😜. Lenny now in his crate, chewing on an old chew that Marley has discarded and everyone is chilled 👍. It's still very early days but we couldn't have wished for a better start 👍

That's brilliant news and it sounds as though Marley approves. So pleased they are playing already. Lenny couldn't have found a better home. Enjoy.

So pleased that everything is going so well. I knew from the way he was happy to trot along behind Dave that he would be happy with his new pack. I also know what a lovely little man Lenny is so I have no doubt he'll worm his way into their hearts very quickly. He needs Marley to put him in his place but he's a very balanced little pup and will take the correction and come back with more teasing! I love this photo of Dave and Lenny - just look at his gorgeous cheeky face. It augurs well for the future.... Lenny doing what he's told and making good eye contact with Dave, and Dave setting some ground rules. Be happy little man! I've shed a few tears for you and missing you already, but I know you will be a ray of sunshine in the lives of Dave and Sue.

That really is a lovely pic. You can just see Lenny thinking "I'll soon have you wrapped around my paw mate!" Hope all continues as well as it has started.

So we've had a wonderfully calm and peaceful night with the newest member of the family. After a short walk about 10.30pm we came in and started preparing for 'Bedtime'. I was a little apprehensive about how we could get Lenny to settle as Christine had said that he would howl, but we kept everything very calm, and put Marley on his sofa, and Lenny in his crate. We left a light on low, and made our way upstairs to bed. The next thing we heard from Lenny was a small whimper at 6am!!! How amazing was that! He didn't make a sound when he went to bed - what a good boy he was. We went up the garden at 6am and he clearly needed a wee, bless him. As he was so good he then came up to bed with us, as Marley does this in the mornings, and after an initial sniff around clambered onto the bed and made himself comfortable!! - see pic 😃

That sounds brilliant. He howled a lot for me the first night but just a whimper the second and nothing from then on until he heard me moving around in the morning. Even then it was only a little squeak. He was completely clean with me. Even though he drinks a lot he would always wait to go outside to pee. I like the description of him clambering onto the bed... as I mentioned to you and Sue, he's still a bit ungainly when it comes to getting onto chairs and a bit clumsy when he wriggles and falls off!! One time he fell off the sofa when he was asleep and just stayed asleep where he fell on the floor!
I'm so pleased he's being such a good boy. He really is an absolute poppet and deserves to have this happy life with you and Sue and Marley.
