Sadly, his outcome is not what we would hope for, but his end will be with dignity and love and pain free. I just wish he had come in earlier. xxxxx

I'm not embarassed to say I'm blubbing here too. Such a shame his grumpiness wasn't explored. Hugs to you Carmel and know we're all thinking of you at such a difficult time.

Update from Carmel today. Ben is doing well on the pain killers and has picked up a bit. No decisions will be made whilst he is still enjoying his days. xx

Carmel has a poorly computer so has rung again to say that he really is chirping up on the painkillers. So much so that she will be taking him to Pets at Home - Harlow, tomorrow for an hour to represent SLR. Bless him xx

Hi everyone! Better late than never - a Ben update! The Gabapentin and metacam seem to have made a difference. In fact, I think they have eased Ben's pain considerably. He has not grumped at anyone since about 4 days after he arrived. He is absolutely LOVING his walks. I do let him off the lead if we are unlikely to meet other dogs as he is just so excited to meet them and wants to play! He stays nearby, although will follow Bonnie if she trots away to have a sniff at something. He has occasionally had a little run and is then happy to continue with his walk - no signs of increased pain, or wanting to stop and rest. I LOVE this boy!!! He is eating well, and our only difficulty is teaching him that my finger tips are NOT part of the treat...... I'd love to get him weighed as he has filled out a little and no longer feels like a skeleton. However, I'll only take him to the vet if he needs to go for another reason. For now, I will have to be content with the fact that he looks and feels much more "normal". Ben is just a big cuddly bear. He loves to be scritched and stroked, and although I had slight reservations about a trip to Pets At Home I knew he would enjoy the attention. I was right - he lapped it all up, so much so that he insisted I pin Honey's "Cuddles for 50p" sign up! I think he managed a few pounds' worth of cuddles. The only time he wasn't 100% happy was when a very lively small dog kept running up to him and when I heard a very low grumble I asked the owner to hold her dog back. As she didn't, I just stood on its lead....... I'll put some pics direct on here from the laptop so you'll need to click on them to enlarge them. I'll get some more onto Photobucket soon. Enjoying a brush by our lovely neighbour Holly: Ben went to visit our good friends and SLR supporters Suzy and Jim in Twickenham. He made the most of Jim's undivided attention! Loving his sofa cuddles: Keeping an eye on things from the top of the stairs (a.k.a. waiting for a walk!!!!)
