She will bounce back by Wednesday. And if she doesn't want to eat tonight, give her either pilchards or some pate if you have it. Cheese works too. She'll be fine by tomorrow. But the saluki x's are such devas!!! They always make a meal of anything at the Vets...

Here Margot is becoming distressed by the buster collar. I have an aroma stone set up with calming patchouli oil. So, we reverted to the t-shirt. Here she is snuggled up with a hot water bottle. My sister is a qualified and practising Reiki Master and is going to give Reiki to Margot on Friday to help her relax and rebalance her. When Jane gave me Reiki it was incredibly relaxing and experienced what I can only describe as an altered state of consciousness. It could help her forget todays traumatic experience. No singing. Yet.

Oh bless her, the t shirt suits her much better than the cone of shame. I hope she heals quickly and that you all get a good nights sleep.

I found the inflatable collar works better than the cone of shame. My dogs are frightened of the cone which distresses the one wearing it even more. Here's a link to the ones on Amazon but you should be able to get one from your vet. Here's a link to a video I did of Lenny, a foster pup I had, wearing one. It was a bit big for him but much less of a problem than the plastic cone. I can also recommend the special "babygro" for dogs. They aren't cheap but are great at covering wounds and stopping licking - your vet should also have these.

Morning all. Thank you for sharing that video of Lenny, what a character! Obviously I don't know his story and how he received that catastrophic injury, but thank you for caring for him and giving him another chance for a full life. Thanks for the inflatable 'necklace' info and I shall check out the hound babygro although the wound cannot yet be bothering her, itching as it heals. It's all good here and Margot snoozed in her drugged haze all evening, kind of watching the football and the Game of Thrones and really perked up when the Dire Wolf was calling When I came down this morning she was stood in the hall, headcocked, tail wagging, bright as a button. A couple of mouthfuls of food and a toilet visit where she passed probably a dessert spoon, nd shes curled up in her bed with her new friend, the hot water bottle. So, we are all rested and she hasn't whimpered nor sung. I don't think she has lived in a home as she most certainly hasn't seen a staircase before. And she doesn't know what to do with a toy, nor a bone. So sad but I am going to do everything I can to enrich her world. I have ordered the medium* Buster Inflatable collar and it will arrive tomorrow. Great item. * Had to use Pi, ie. divide circumference by 3.14 to work out her size. I abhored maths @ school, nevertheless it has come in useful today. Who knew?

Really pleased (also amazed) that you all had a peaceful nights sleep. Most hounds are very whingey for the first 24 hours after a GA. Margot sounds like an absolute angel. Sending fast-recovery vibes. Oh, and you can get the protective doggy suits on Amazon.

@ Romi Thanks! I've ordered a rather fetching pink camouflage in medium as she's so thin.

You wil find Romi is a mine of info, Kaaren!! So pleased you had a good night and Margot is feeling better today. I am sure the reiki will calm her, although she sounds a pretty chilled out hound to me. I think she is going to join the order of spoilt rotten hounds, Lots of heal quickly vibes on their way.

Fin looks as impressed as Margot was last night Both the buster inflatable collar and camo doggygrow are being delivered tomorrow as she looks such a poor little ha'porth in that mutilated t-shirt. The close fit of the camo will ensure she doesn't interfere with what will be an itchy wound site as the 2 layers of stitches do their job. In between hail and snow showers Margot is very keen to soak up any sunshine, so as official minder I accompany her to ensure she doesn't skip and dance around the garden. I'll add the photos of her sprawled flat out, luxuriating on the grass, which was handy as I was able to check over her wound without drawing attention to it. All looking good if a little bruised but she doesn't appear to be in any discomfort. The Inflacalm has been delivered to The Vet and I'm going to give her the pain meds for the 5 days post op. She has nibbled Black Bomber cheese, wasn't keen on the vet's food offering but daintily ate some Butchers and is now asleep. Whilst out on the patio she caught sight of *another hound* walked towards it and proceeded to growl. It was her reflection in the bi-fold doors but I couldn't help but laugh out loud Silly moo!

Pain meds easily administered to a compliant Margot. Whilst I was dismembering a cooked chicken she stood up on her hind legs, hooter swivelling to savour the flavour. She thoroughly enjoyed the meat from the wings and both legs. She asked to go out for a tinkle and is now fast asleep and it wouldn't surprise me if that was her down for the night. I cannot believe my luck in being given the chance to care for such a gentle, exquisitely polite soul.
