We're back from a short 50 minute walk/ snuffle at the local park, dressed in her Newmarket rug coat as she always seems cold. Her manners on the long lead are great and this, considering its our inaugural walk together. I switched to the 5m lunge line and couldnt help myself but started giving her horse commands, ie. walk on, wait, woah. And guess what?, she obeyed! How cool is that? Perhaps those pikeys' had horses... We met very small children, toddlers and a football team and she didn't put a paw wrong. We saw squirrels and spinger spaniels. The only time she growled was at a neutered lurcher x husky that resembled an German Shepherd, but who knows what doggie politics was going on there. This dogs owner was in disbelief when I explained that we were a new 'team', only having met yesterday as could see we had 'really bonded'. The dedicated dog free area is enclosed but with only 4' fences which seeing what Margot was capable of yesterday with her springbok impersonation, it is not a safe run free zone. She's had a mini lunch and is now flat out on the grass sunbathing after her characteristic roll and wiggle.
Margot's vocal offering has been the occasional 'Scooby Do' - sound.
I'll take her through the Forest @ 4pm as she'll need to eat as her nil by mouth apart from water, starts @ 9pm tonight.

Brilliant update Kaaren, with great pics. Margot certainly seems to be settling in very well with you. That's a lovely new bed. Not showing my lot or they'll be jealous.

Lovely update. It sounds as though Margot is comfortable with you already. I laughed at you giving here horse commands! Just don't try telling a horse to sit!!!!

Thankyou Romi. Its a large Joules bed. Shes so bony she needs the padding. She's adopted a large cushion, sunning herself, intermittently having a self groom aalong the garage wall, then the cool grass, then back to the cushion. We've just had a love-in where I very gently brushed her, taking the opportunity to check out her body, (that sounded wrong)! Sge absolutely loves being stroked, brushed and fussed and when I paused, she'd give me "The Look" and to carry on Im her biatch! It seems brutal that I am putting her through a major op tomorrow, so soon after her stressy day yesterday and all she has endured, but what is the alternative? I'm ready for the challenging few days ahead but she will want for nothing and will have my undivided attention. I will ensure she is loaded with analgesics. She shows no interest in shop bought dog treats apart from Pedigree Smackos but even then is not a gorger. Looking at her I would exoect her to wolf down food but she is so dainty, savouring the flavour almost. Margot does like Black Bomber cheese and sampled smoked salmon this morning. Steak for the humans later...

We are back from a 2 hour walk over @ Woodford Golf Course and the surrounds of Epping Forest. We met several dogs off lead although she is understandably on her 5m lunge line. I have established that she is not food/treat orientated. She is extremely receptive to consistent voice commands/tone, ie, what I have used when walking horses in-hand and ridden. There hasn't been any 'disagreements' nor outright refusals. She is my dream hound. She's met a variety of off-lead dogs and she's behaved beautifully. She's now been fed and crashed out in her bed. Today's distance covered is 17,000 steps, ie. 7.2 miles. I wear a FitBit My exercising this beauty also rules me out of cooking and ironing! And guess what, Mr. M and Tom are pulling their weight. Fabuloso! She did explore the first flight of stairs and I'm convinced that this a new experience for her. I am absolutely besotted and am proud to pronounce that I will be a proud member of The FFC

Yup. It was meant to be. She chose me. Her character appears to be quietly dignified with aloofness and grace, yet her eyes betray a mournful "old soul" quality. (My sister is a Reiki Master and is equally smitten). And yes, we will be @ the Brentwood meet-up.

The next 2 weeks will see her character come out but it sounds like Kaaren is totally smitten! Be wary of giving her too much attention and affection early on as this can lead to them setting their own ground rules which will be difficult for her to unlearn further down the road. It may sound harsh but I'm 100% with Jenny on this - don't make too much fuss of them in the first few days. Setting your boundaries early on is the best way to start the relationship.

Margot has definitely landed on her paws and you are obviously smitten Kaaren! As Jenny says it takes a couple of weeks to see the "real" hound. Don't let her rule the roost too much! There is a lot of saluki in her and they are bonkers but amusing. Check photo thread for some pics of Rowlf. Safe op vibes for Margot tomorrow and keep calm vibes for you - it will be a long day.

A big thankyou for to everyone for their sage input. Margot has undoubtedly been mistreated yet she retains an almost naive, willingness to trust. And I have felt a joyfulness that has been absent for too long, yet am retaining emotional distance, believe or not.

Good luck tomorrow, Margot and keep calm wishes for foster mum.
It is lovely to get a dog in your life when you have been without for so long - your excitement mirrors mine when I first got my boy Zephyr. That was 7 years ago and I still appreciate every dog filled day.

Lots of safe GA vibes and healing for after lady op, Margot. And try not to worry too much Kaaren, it is a big op but they are amazingly resiliant. Usually trying to bounce around as normal after a couple of days. Mine loved scrambled eggs or white fish and rice during recovery. She really is quite beautiful, no wonder you are smitten.
