Margot is in. Kaaren offered to go the whole trip to pick her up but Simon kindly offered to do a halfway changeover to take Tilly down to Hampshire. She is very pretty. Around 13 months old. She was found wandering in Hampshire and served her 7 days. She is good with other dogs and people. I will leave new foster mum Kaaren to update you all.

I'd be surprised if kaaren lets her go... Delightful character. Clearly unsuitable for a travelling community operative.

What a stunner! Why can't I just happen to 'find' a dog like her....although I know you have to hand them in Well done Kaaren, I look forward to hearing how you are getting on. Puppies can be hard work but so much fun.

Good morning everyone. Wow! What a momentous 24 hours its been! I do apologise for not giving you the feedback from yesterday but I have had a mare trying to transfer the photos from phone to Dropbox but help is at hand from Tom, my oldest son who was also a superbly capaable 'wheels man' yesterday. This left me free to comfort and reassure both the delightful Tilly en route to Basingstoke (and her new foster home via an overnighter @ Simon's), and the aristocratic, nay, regal countenance of Margot, (named after the grace and dignity of the late Margot Fonteyn the prima ballerina). Simon is absolutely correct, Margot's nose swivvels and had I not chosen Margot, she could easily have been named Tabitha, the witch from Bewitched. So, Operation Hound swap went like a dream as Simon and I made a grand tag team. A HUGE thanks to his generous offer to collect Margot from the holding kennels and for accepting Tilly, providing a hound B&B. I arrived at the rendezvous early so took Tilly for a leg stretch and tinkle. This was my first experience of walking a hound. Yes, I grew up with dogs that roamed free with us as children but these mongrels, both boys, (Muttley and Sonny), would have to be separated by the Groundsman chucking a bucket of cold water over them. I now know to be trying out various positions of the Canine Karma Sutra, but at the time were 'frolicking'. Simon arrived and we exchanged hounds. Tilly happily trundled off with him whilst I walked Margot in order to give her a drink of water. She literally glides along. Its obvious she isn't used to a lead but she loaded into the car and set off for Chingford. Heres the two of them before Simon headed home and us likewise.

She was understandably on edge for a while but soon settled down and visibly relaxed. She was trembling initially and I realised she was cold so wrapped her in her fleecy blanket. She drifted off into slumber getting up to survey her surrounds as we travelled the 90 minutes home. As we had made an early start we missed the horrendous traffic so we popped home for a drink, and introduced her to her new home, (not NOT foster home). She skipped out to the garden, rolled in the grass, did a tinkle and then showed us the first of her circus tricks. Her swivvel nose detected a coconut and mealworm treat on the shepherds crook bird feeder... Standing on her hind legs! I offered water, and a snack, and we then set off for The Vet Highams Park to get her weighed, checked over, 1st immunisations and the all importand spaying operation.

She was dressed in SLR's weatherbeeta Newmarket rug coat, booked in and mingled with the other dogs in the dedicated waitng area. She is an absolute dream hound, never put a foot wrong and wasnt at all phased by alll this new sights, smells and experiences. Not dominant, nor submissive. She just *is* We were seen by Vet Madeleine who fortuitously owns a lurcher X. Apparently she had approached SLR but there were no dogs available so hers hails from Evesham. Margot didn't like the prospect of the black examination table so her thorough check-up of teeth, heart, paws and general demenour was carried out on the floor. She didn't flinch at any of this, ven the jab to the rump. She's 22" tall and weighs 15.1kgs so is at least 3kgs underweight. Madeleine suggested little and often, Chappie, progressing to Butchers and Burns dried. She's booked for her spaying op tomorrow 8am. So, we will be going out for a walk in the sunshine in a bit. She didn't have much of a appetite but it was hardly surprising considering the upheaval and change of routine. From being found wandering by a farmer in Hampshire, to being taken to the holding kennels and all that entailed, to yesterdays transfer. She snoozed for the remainder of the day, ate her dinner and then crashed out from 7pm to 6.45am this morning!!! I fully expected her to follow me upstairs and I left my bedroom door open so I could hear her nails tip-tapping as she walked. But she didn't move. She knows her name and is at present rolling around on the grass having stalked a foolhardy woodpigeon then launched herself at it! Shes having a mad half hour....lolloping down onto the grass, then ribbing her flanks on the side of the warm brick garage wall Her bed arrived yesterday and she didn't have to be told to luxuriate in it. My sister and younger son plus girlfriend, husband and Tom are all smitten with Margot and I cannot believe my luck. I feel blessed in being given the opportunity to care and give love and affection to this wonderfully accepting and forgiving hound as looking at her war wounds, she has ben used and abused by those lifestyle shed draggers with a propensity for thievery.
